Answers my question from the other thread. Sony may want to be scouting Call of duty dev talent from this.

Sony may also be trying to avoid firing a bunch of people like everyone else is doing. That would be a major victory in itself.

Major shift in their strategies for gaming.

This is why we've been hearing about them going full third party.

Now's a good time to sell your msbox.

xbox is 22 000 in total... so almost 10% are gone.
They should be way more. Activision Blizzard were 17000 last year and Zenimax over 2300 back in 2023. That's around 20K people themselves. Then you have to include MGS and the rest of Xbox gang plus probably other studios more or less recently acquired.

They must be way more than 22000 people.

Thats a lot of people.

The company i work for have been around 50 years and have had about 600 people work for them over that time.
They would have had to been in business for 160 years to even have that many people employed for them much less fire that many overnight.
These giant ass tech companies need to be broken down into tiny pieces if they at the point where they can drop 1900 bodies over night.

There is a thin line between the argument that justifies cutting fat and assuming the corps acquired (Zenimax/ABK) were not lean and fit for purpose, with as little fat as possible.

I expect much worse, whether within a few years or much later down the line.

How much was Bethesda and the rest of xbox, staff size wise?
Bethesda was at 450 employees at November 2023 but we should be looking at Zeimax here?
For Xbox it is hard to find because it is a sub of sub division of sub division.

Xbox Games Studios at August 2019 had 2433 employees... that was the only info I have... it is very old.

But hey Activation Blizzard is probably 3-4x time bigger than the whole Xbox.

Edit - I found an estimate that says Xbox has around 5k employees (https://www.owler.com/company/xbox)... not sure how accurate.

Edit 2 - That was the 2019 counting the Xbox studios only.
The 5k estimate for Xbox made sense btw.

Xbots are cursed. I remember that they were even doing a employee count to hype Xbox and this is what they get.

Xbox is just extremely unproductive and their output even with the addition of Bethesda, Blizzard and Activision is still poor and looks like it's going to be like that for the foreseeable future.

Wow, that is very little. I think i am now impressed with Sony with their 400+ staff studios and Phil can't manage neither of these that can fit in a classroom...

LMAO and Mike Ybarra is leaving too. Lulu is leaving. Bobby left already. What a sinking ship 🤣

All the clowns saying the acquisition was good for Activision employees. The unions, politicians, the xbots all of them a bunch of fraudulent clowns 🤡

Bungie was 100 people all hell brooke loose. Almost 2000 for MS holy shit. Keep that same energy.

Way more is a bit too much but I agree it should be around 25k before the layoffs.
Xbox: ~5k
Zeimax: ~3k
AB: ~17k
