Do you guys even use other BD drives? A lot of them nowadays requires internet connection to activate the disc drive.

It's in BD copyright protection law.

The firmware need to make sure the digital encryption key is legit.

It's not DRM. It is HDCP check.

Just turn off HDCP and see if you can play BD discs content at all.

That is an anti-piracy required by Blue-Ray.
Of course Blue-Ray players already come enabled by default but that is different to attachable BD drives or if you want to change the BD drive in your player.

PC BD drives needs that too but probably most PCs are online so you end not seeing that… when Windows install the standard driver it already do the register checkin.
