Jeff Grubb on Hi-Fi Rush: "Based on what I've heard, it just didn't make the money it needed to make"

If i am being honest i am surprised they have not already done it even if the games got released 6-12 months later.
They could gain subs from Day One GP and make cash 6-12 months later on other platforms atleast that way the games will sell
I know right? Leaving $ on the table.

Grubb has pretty decent sources when it comes to Xbox.

Hi Fi Rush always felt like something that was being seriously overhyped inside a social media bubble.
it wasn't even that spread out. few forums with xbots hiping it, few xbots shill twitters.

only meaningful way the game was mentioned if it was included in the conversation about Forspoken.

AppleGTP made all that HiFi talk here too. like real shill.

Shame.

Game was actually fun and it has a damn soul which is what many Xbox games are missing.

Anyhow...... what were they thinking? Most players come from Gamepass. I spent 0 on it. Am sure others did as well.

Are they going to rely on Steam to push sales for MS games going forward? They have Literally conditioned Xbox gamers to wait and just play everything on GP.

I truly question their strategies. It really feels like they are just throwing darts at a wall and see where it lands.

ABK deal is not going to save them. If anything, it's going to put Phil under the scrutiny by investors.

At this rate, after ABK closes, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear Phil "retiring".

The ABK deal may be the lifeline they need - if it remains a 3rd party publisher selling well on PS. Will kill current Xbox sales revenue however. But then, the GaaS nature of COD will still have repeat revenue.

Shadow dropping an unknown game like that is such a Phil Spencer thing to do. No thought behind his moves at all.

dang it, I just came here to make this thread!

Anyway, expected as much. Grubb also says management at MS is very unhappy with the Xbox division.

could this finally be the end?

Either way, really worrying news for Xbox!

Good to see you bro!

It's what we have all been saying forever..

It's not about making games more accessible, games are accessible and even if you have a TV or phone, you still need to get a controller and at that point why not just get a console altogether?

This is taking a product that costs tens of millions to make and devaluing it down to nothing at launch. Xbox faithful have called it pro-consumer but that just cannot be true because it's not sustainable for the industry and it actually damages the industry and what customers expect.

Now you see an aversion to buying games on Xbox particularly and they also attack and criticize PlayStation for selling games at 70 dollars and 80 euro, not realizing that is the fair price for the product. I personally think 80 euro hurt game sales on its own and 70 shoulda been the cap.

However price increases coupled with gamepass, could have crippled the industry if it had become the dominant force and so many in the media were cheering it on... what type of love is that for gaming? That you would allow that to happen to your hobby and pastime...

Of course it didn’t make money. It launched on gamepass.

Heh, they’re really reconsidering all of this huh? It’ll really hurt when the same thing happens with starfield.

This cannot sustain game development.

Truth is MS doesn’t need anything to make money.

I mean how are profits spread per month to the games that are just released on Gamepass? By how many people download them? How many hours spent on them? How many new people join? Why this model just doesnt work unless you have shit tons of money and are the 2 top biggest companies on the planet.

Tango is dead anyway without Mikami

They haven’t grown their market share. They’re losing it. So in effect they’re just selling Starfield for $10 instead of $70 to the same amount of players.

It’s so fucking stupid :ROFLMAO:. And it seems Microsoft’s reaction is like okay you didn’t meet expectations, goodbye. Studio gutted and fired or devs were jumping ship to begin with.

They put so much faith, and money, in Phil and these is nothing to show for it. Now for a while the industry has grown, in the back of ps5 sales, and Xbox has seen decline.

It's hard to think, but as the ABK deal proceedings are going through the motions I think that they may be looking for some way to sell Xbox. But is it even possible with all these studios (assuming they are doing something)?
