AND I HATED IT!

That game sucked, like really bad for me!
I first played this game back in July of 2008 when I friend let me borrow it on PS2 and never got really far, got it on PS3 in late 2014 and got to the part where you give the guy in the beginning of the game the medicine. Finally on August 8th, 2022 on the PS5 I finished the campaign and I hate it!
I saw some of you in my other thread saying the gameplay of RE4 was so bad it's offensive and did massive damage to the series, is this some sick joke?
The very unclear ceiling squish puzzle
The Steve Boss Part you have to take damage no matter what you do
the wonky linear launcher weapon at the end
Wesker doing matrix stuff thru out the game
RE4 Remake should write this game out of the canon for being so bad!

After this my Top 4 worst RE games from now on are:

4. RE6 (PS3&360, they fixed it up a bit on PS4&XB1)
3. RE0
2. CV
1. RE5

Re3 / Outbreak should have provided the advancements going forward. We got shafted with Action RE.

I loved Code Veronica. Apart from the ammo and save issue at the end, I really enjoyed it.

Classic RE gameplay with Horror, metroidvania backtracking and puzzles.
Cool settings including mansion, was the longest classic RE, puzzles. Not waves and rooms of hundreds of enemies Like RE4, 5, 6 etc

One of the best RE stories. Lore wise anyway after RE1 ( Umbrella and the families etc )

I prefered it to RE4, 5, 6 even though RE5 is a blast in coop with a friend.
RE4 was an amazing game, but RE4 left me with a sour taste in my mouth because of all the action and lack of classic RE gameplay and ended up being the recipe to ruin the franchise for years.

Revelations 1 is my least favourite (not including the shit like Umbrella Corps, or Survivor). I found it really boring. The new characters suck like the two nerds in the snow - they are not funny, I don't even remember their names (Jessica is hot though). Jill and Chris are tame in this game. Conan O'Brien look alike is mildly comical just for that reason alone. The Ooze are not fun to fight imo and are pretty boring. That goes for the bosses too. The ship setting is mildly interesting. One of the chapters is incredibly confusing. Swimming is shit though. I just found it boring and it's a short game that felt like a chore to get through.

Revelations 2 had a much better campaign and 100x better Raid mode

Code Veronica is actually my favorite RE game to date.
I hope my post doesn't come off too harsh to people who liked Code Veronica, It was more towards people in the last Resident Evil thread I made talking about how bad RE4 was and how even one person said RE4 has bad gameplay when Code Veronica was a pain in most boss fights. only the first time you fight the tyrant and alexa in the mansion area did I wreck them with little issue.

Also I find it funny that people say RE4 went way too over the top when this game started a lot of the over the top stuff with Superpowers and just really weird characters lol.

If I don't count the Revelations games (aka Rev. 1), Code Veronica is probably my least favourite as well. It's either that or Zero. I still enjoyed it though. I actually got it on Gamecube in 2007 but didn't finish it til 2018. I got to disc 2 and never finished but went back and restarted it over. The part with Steve "boss" is bullshit and I nearly fucked up because I didn't know there was going to be a boss fight in the Spencer Mansion replica but luckily I had the magnum on me.

4 was probably my favourite game at the time of release, and love 5 & 6. 5 is one of my favourites and I finished 6 several times (all campaigns except Ada, I only did that once). Don't play 6 much any more though.

CV was a great game. I'll never forget how cutting edge it looked at the time and how awesome it was to play. Dreamcast was such a beast.

I just recently played it again on emulator. GameCube version, and it was great and still has its place.

I think they should remake it in the style of all the new remakes.

Second place is a bit harsh.

RE6 is hands down the worst RE followed by RE5.

Replayed CV and I agree the game felt like a chore. Simply too much backtracking even by OG RE standards. Also the fact that Capcom choose to go 3D yet keep the tank controls was weird.

At least the Pre rendered backgrounds made up for the tank controls in the previous games. CV simply looked bland and played bland too.

It is a good game (to be fair great... one of best RE) it was just a bit different in the camera view.
In any case it was suppose to be the Resident Evil 3 (it just don't have the name due console wars... Capcom wanted the name RE3 to be on PS2) and so it feels more like Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 than the more action focused Resident Evil 3... the story progression is RE1 > RE2 > RE:CV.

I liked it for what it is.

IMO it is better than RE4, RE5 and RE6.

Bruh how? This is legit one of the best Resident Evil games and should have been Resident Evil 4.

The worst RE titles shall always be RE4,RE5 and RE6. Great action games btw, shit resident evil titles..
It is actually the original Resident Evil 3 just not in name... it is the direct story sequel from RE2.

RE3 that ended launching was a spin-off the main series with a new take... that is why Nemesis exists.

Code Veronica is one of my favorite RE games. The story, characters, atmosphere. I liked it more than RE4 which is my least favorite and is in my opinion an overrated game.

Hope Capcom does a remake soon enough.

I always thought this was a cool scene

probably one of the best RE games of all time if not the best. yeah it's difficult, and that turns a lot of people off, but it's honestly the evolution of RE2. Massive campaign spanning 2 discs, hard as fuck puzzles and pretty unforgiving. it was mindblowing when it first came out.

I'm pretty sure all of the hate it gets is because the lack of pre-rendered BGs means it's pretty ugly nowadays but those of us who played it when it first came out remember how mindblowing it looked. Oh and the fire extinguisher that pissed a lot people off, lol.

plus as a dreamcast exclusive it was pretty special. honestly it might be my favorite in the franchise, it's certainly my favorite of the classic formula. remember this is the real RE3, and it shits all over nemesis imo.

steve's voice aside i love everything about it. not a fan of this newfound revisonist history that it was a bad game. it was getting 9.5-10 range scores everywhere when it came out, let's relax with dragging this game's name in the mud because not many people played/or have nostalgia for it, like the first 3.

Technically Code Veronica is Resident Evil 3.

Technically No.

RE Nemesis and RE CV were both in development for PS1 and DC respectively and neither were numbered.

Sony basically wanted Nemesis to be numbered and since it was releasing before CV it became 3.

Story wise YES. CV is the true sequel to RE2.

I thought the story was...

- RE3 being developed to Dreamcast as a direct sequel to RE2
- Capcom marketed RE3 with several photos of Code Veronica.
- A spin-off RE with the events before RE2 being developed to PS2 with Jill Valentine as main.
- Near the release of the spin off Sony was not happy with receiving the spin-off and forced Capcom to release a game called Resident Evil 3 on PS2.
- Capcom choose to rename the spin off as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to makes Sony happy.
- Capcom continue to marketed the Code Veronica Dreamcast game as true sequel
- Capcom launched the true Resident Evil 2 sequal on Dreamcast with the name of Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

IGN that made the story at time.

"Foremost among their projects were a "gaiden" or side-story game following Jill Valentine's adventures leading up to the events of Resident Evil 2, and a true next-gen sequel for the Dreamcast. When Sony bartered for a limited exclusivity deal on Resident Evil 3, the gaiden title was re-branded and the sequel labeled the spin-off, but the projects themselves remained essentially unchanged. Capcom even went as far as to promote the upcoming Dreamcast game as the true sequel despite the lack of a numeral in the title."

Code Veronica was considered the best Resident Evil at time but it suffered in sales compared to others RE games because well Dreamcast... it was a risk for Capcom because they beat in a platform that didn't found success and was dead few years late.
So few people played it.
