Say this is true. With out those photos before code veronicas reveal how do we know for sure those photos were code veronica? With so many resident evil projects going on at the time are you 100%sure from memory alone those photos were code veronica? I'm only 28 so 12 years younger than you but can still find articles from the late 90s so somewhere out there should be some magazine clipping or advertisement of code veronica being the true sequel to re2. Also you seem to be wrong on code veronicas reveal, it was officially revealed n August of 1998 and tgs 1998 was in March and October that year.

Appearantly the real re3 was directed by Kamiya in 1998 and would feature hunk on a ship trying to collect a g sample. That got scrapped l because they couldn't finish on time so promoted a spin off in development on ps1 to re3 nemesis and scrapped the hunk game. https://www.vg247.com/resident-evil-3-nemesis-began-life-as-a-spin-off
At no point does anyone say code veronica was developed as re3 in mind.
Even shinji Mikami said that code veronica was made because they couldnt port re2 to Saturn so they came up with the idea of making a new game for Sega fans. Also this theoretical sony contract for re1 - re3 does not have any substance evidence of actually existing. Shinji Mikami did not was the ps1 spinoff to be re3 but decided to go along when people brought up to him sales wise calling it re3 would make the most sense since the ps1 was a super successful console. No offical source ever mentions a contract anywhere from sony
Because the fotos have code veronica....
I mean the marketing for the game was based in the "code veronica".

That doesn’t fit Capcom marketing the game.

When Capcom announced the true sequel for RE2 they showed images of Code Veronica… before the change in names they are saying the true sequel will be on Dreamcast and always teased Code Veronica.

After they changed the name of the PS2 spin-off they continued saying and marketing the true sequel as being Code Veronica.

Code Veronica was always the sequel of RE, aka RE3, to Capcom.
You're talking about this aren't you?

Not exactly that.
The marketing at time was made by the big magazines and every week/month (depending of the magazine... EGM was mensal I believe) there PR shots released by Capcom with some tidbits... that is what I say about Capcom marketing... they showed Code Veronica become and after the announce as Resident Evil sequel and after the announce they even used the words "true sequel"... it is a contrast from RE3: Nemesis that was never marketed as a sequel for the franchise.

But it doesn't matter int he grand scene I guess... the fact is RE3: Nemesis does nothing to the franchise, it is really a spin-off story not related to the franchise story while Code Veronica is... it events are the base for the future games plots... the importance of events in Code Veronica to the franchise can be compared with the importance of RE4 events for exemple.

I know RE story is over the top... some crazy things that makes no sense sometimes. But at least some parts that makes no sense is probably due most people never playing CV (if you played RE2 > RE3: Nemesis > RE3 you get confused by a lot of things)... the correct order to understand the events are:

RE1 > RE2 > CV > RE4 > RE5 and so...

It is just not RE3 in name only.

I'm 40 years old... I was a hardcore gamer literally in 1997-1998.
Just because internet was not a thing and you won't find news from that time the Capcom marketing was clear about which game was the true sequel.

Before they officially announced RE: Code Veronica at TGS 1998 (October) they teased several times the sequel of the franchise with pictures of well Code Veronica. Even after RE3: Nemesis got announced in March 1999 they continued to saying the true sequel was Code Veronica and RE3 was not a sequel to the franchise.

Ohhhh but you will say but there is a RE game being developed... yes but that project never get the light of sun... it was scraped before start the development to console... it never become anything and that happens before Code Veronica and/or Nemesis announcement... side note even names like Kazuhiro Aoyama, Shinji Mikami, and some high executives were not happy with the decision... they wanted Code Veronica to be named RE3 and not Nemesis...

What is RE3: Nemesis to the franchise? Nothing... it add nothing.
What is RE: Code Veronica to the franchise? The game that build the story/plot as we know today... it is canon and the key events for the overall story in the follow games.

CV was unlucky to be released in a dead machine and for that it was not know to most fans and threaded like the other RE.
It is really a sad situation.

Shinji Mikami confirmed that RE Nemesis and RE CV were both in development and not numbered.

Sony then told Capcom they wanted RE Nemesis to be numbered because it was on their system. RE Nemesis got the 3.

Mikami definitely wanted CV to be RE3 from the looks of it.

I mean as far as I'm concerned that confirms it.

CV gameplay and design is trash tbh. But it's the one that would benefit extremely from a remake, because the story itself is actually good and moves the plot forward.

It has the same "Tank" gameplay basis than originals RE games... what changed was the environment to fully 3D now and that generate some camera issues.
But that was 1999... "Tank" controls was not called "trash" at that time.

Today it can look like "trash" design but it was not in 1999.

Took Capcom more 6 years to change the gameplay because "tank" controls didn't work anymore in 2005.

PS. I still loves to play RE with "tank" controls... I replayed the first time REmake in 2017 (because everybody says it is amazing and I wanted to compared with original RE... hint REmake is not better overall than original RE... it do somethings better but lose others in the path) and it was a blast and it is really a great remake.

I honestly didn't like the gameplay even at the time. Claire is stiffer on CV than she is on RE2, for instance.

Is that a feeling created by the camera being more dynamic? I don't know... I thought it was very similar gameplay.
Did you play the original Dreamcast game or the two years late port to PS2?

I don't know if it was the camera. It just felt bad. Go back and play OG RE2 and CV back to back and you'll notice how Claire feels worse on CV.

It won't get a remake simply because it wasn't a big seller and secondly the game is huge compared to RE2 OG and RE3 OG. Not economically feasible.

I will try to play the ports to PS3 if I had time to hock up the console :D
That is the only version I have available today (I don't have the previous consoles anymore).

Which is sad, because I love how stereotypical the villains are and how Wesker went full anime. Simply amazing.

Yep surprisingly that's the case even though CV was on a more powerful console. Jill animations and movement in RE3 are far more advanced than Claire and Chris in CV. They look robotic in comparison.

I have all three, I'm going to test this later today.

Yes give them a test.

The difference can be seen in the videos.

There probably is a difference however I think the perception is completely skewed because in Code Veronica the camera actually shifts and follows because it's a 3D environment.
