It is funny how Microsoft wanted to trick the CMA by giving Nvidia a cloud COD deal. Nvidia isn't really a cloud service provider. GForce Now is just a demo that advertises their cloud hardware. Nvidia will sell gpus for servers to whoever is the dominant cloud service provider. Not yet considering that they just tricking Nvidia for old CoD titles and Warzone while keeping them out of new sequals.

I still think Sony should stay out of the comfort zone. They still need to acquire Japanese publishers and continue aggressively build new studios and acquire them.
I agree that they need to increase their first party presence in Japan, but luckily this recent development has given them more time to ensure that their budget is where it needs to be in order to make that happen. One thing Sony definitely needs to learn from this, is not to take 3rd party devs for granted and assume they will always be there. Lock down ip you can't afford to lose or have a backup/replacement ready.

That’s why I am convinced they will lockdown Square Enix for good. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts and Nier are to precious to lose. The Chinese companies like Tencent or Netease are also potential threat to Sony’s business in Japan. After Activision Blizzard fate will be decided in May by European Commission, I think after a while they will announce it. In 2023 November Square Enix will move into a new HQ in Shibuya. Completion of move is targeted for mid of November. This also a period where many buyouts/mergers happen in Japan traditionally.

Sony needs to go for the jugular. MS overplayed their hand and ended up paying $3 billion for absolutely NOTHING and were tied up strategically while also forfeiting all hopes of future publisher acquisitions due to the precedent set by the CMA's final decision. It's easily the worst deal in recorded history.

Buy Square Enix outright, invest heavily in Capcom and other publishers, keep output multiplatform where it makes sense, generate extra profit and continue buying up stakes and devs and publishers.

The least they can do is to buy significant shares of these companies. Thus, you prevent them from acquisition

Even Disney had to divest when they bought Fox. The sheer arrogance of Microsoft thinking that they shouldn't have to play by the rules.

Even the slimy way Brad Smith talked about things..... the deal in his pocket, ready to sign.

I only expect such cartoon sleazeballs in movies, didn't know they were real.

- MLex says that only Sony and an undisclosed third party agreed with vetoing the deal. But the final report notes that four other third parties were supporting a block. A fifth said it would be appropriate if a behavioural remedy wouldn't work. Thanks to @gofreak for the correction

Another false thing debunked, it wasnt only Sony
The other 4 are apple, google and whats the other two?

LOL...this was the mofo who supported the acquisition from an academic perspective......

His outrage gives away his bias.

The CMA said that regulating an emerging market, with new entrants would be too difficult and that was part of the reasoning. They cant be constantly policing whethere Microsoft offer a deal to each new entrant.

Of course people like this obviously biased (bought off or personal bias) academic ignore that and try to create outrage by spreading misinformation.
