Now the Square-Enix acquisition intention shows the intent in them to go after 3P partners with a history on Sony systems, and basically cut Sony off of supply of key independent 3P content. And, again, validates the 2019 email's strategy of using mass 3P acquisitions to "put PlayStation out of business". How does Square-Enix serve Microsoft's stated mobile strategy? They don't (not really). But in cutting PlayStation off one of the biggest 3P franchises? It would have served that purpose VERY well.
The strategic partnership with Sega on Azure was basically a backup to getting this since the benefits to Xbox side are relegated mainly to Game Pass Day 1 deals, but it's also 100% likely had Microsoft acquired Square-Enix, they would have ALSO made those same arrangements with Sega/Atlus on top of it. Having some is never enough for Microsoft: they want it all. And, so do other competitors.
However, Microsoft have a history of leveraging large sums of money from other divisions to sustain loss-leading strategies in growth markets so they can bleed out smaller competitors who can't match them on the value proposition, and that is arguably the strategy they want to employ with Game Pass as well.

Dude also charges 30% for PlayStation games published on Xbox and uses that money as well as money coming from outside their division to buy entire publishers and remove their games from PlayStation. Despite all that still gets fucking destroyed on sales and now pretends to be the victim.
Xbox is constantly paying for exclusivity as well and has always done it, this dude assumes everyone else is stupid (and if this acquisition is approved maybe he is right).
