That's not it. The CMA is approving this with minimal remedies. If they were willing to block this, they could have just sat back and let the case go through the appeal process, costing MS more time.

They're ready to pass this through.
You've seen what they're asking for to be able to make this claim?

Ohhh, my friend, I think you miss the point.

It's not about having shooters to play, it's about the revenue and mindshare. It would take at LEAST a decade of high quality and heavy spending to get any of those First Party IP anywhere near the point they could SNIFF that off of CoD, that was Sony's entire rebuttal to the whole "ten years is long enough to make a CoD competitor" argument. And it was a completely valid point.

For illustrative purposes: it's like suggesting Sony just create a PC OS to compete with Windows. The sheer amount of time, money, advertising, third-party partnerships etc. that it would take to get that anywhere NEAR Windows would bankrupt almost anyone.

Not to mention that half the tactics Microsoft used to get Windows where it is now are technically illegal.
So what

Activision is now owned by Xbox just forget about it

Sony should do nothing?

In 10 years they should prepare their own flagship fps game

The saddest thing is that Xbox was so close to dying due to the terrible job they have done since half-way into the 360 gen and now it's only a matter of time until they become the biggest company in traditional gaming shaping the future of the industry.

The market rejected the Xbox One, rejected Gamepass, rejected xCloud, rejected the Series and yet due to MS size they still get to move things in the direction they want against the will of most consumers.

Sony had multiple chances to kill Xbox for good but they allowed Xbox to hang around until MS decided to back up that division with limitless funds.

I'll enjoy this gen on my PS5 and by nextgen I'll probably be Linux/Retro only gamer. The golden age of Sony internal games was probably 2009-2020.
They are near succeed to kill xbox though mid-PS4 gen, unfortunately that f****** parasite that called phil spencer managed to brainwashed m$ ceo to back their dying rejected brand called xbox.

Again, CoD is NOT something they can replicate in 10 years. NO ONE can just replicate CoD in 10 years. That's not the point.

I do believe they're doing something though. It's a large part of why they're focusing on more GaaS titles now. They need to be able to prop up the potential revenue losses should Microsoft do what we all know they WANT to do and yank CoD, to say nothing of other potential third-party money makers that someone could yank out from under them. They're making a clear attempt to become more self-sufficient without trying to buy out the entire industry. And that's a huge part of why they bought Bungie to help ensure that their titles have a lifespan and pass the smell test before launching and simply LOSING money.

Some folks don't like it, but it is what it is.

What's shocking is how quickly she made the decision, considering how long other injunctions take to make a decision on.
Apparantly the judge reduced the temporary restraining order to the 14th, which was supposed to be 5 days initially.

Lmao could this judge be any more corrupt?

I wish this could be pinned. Have anyone ever seen a Judge bend over so far backward to placate one of the legal parties before?

The fact that MS is all of a sudden willing to renegotiate, even though they said they'd never go for divestiture. The mere fact they're all of a sudden willing to negotiate means the CMA has lax remedies in mind, for whatever reason.
Microsoft saying they're willing to negotiate is a PR move and nothing more, and the CMA is obligated to at least entertain them. Beyond that, we know nothing of what either side will do.

Sony was too comfortable with Xbox just hanging around. They quit on the portable market, they buckled to the pressure and allowed crossplay to save Xbox, they started supporting PC, they were ok with long time partners getting close to MS, they were ok with allowing MS acquisition to go mostly unanswered.

Now they'll have to deal with Xbox + Bethesda + Blizzard + Activsion + King + Minecraft and they seem naive enough to think pivoting to PC + GaaS + mobile is going to end well for them.

Come next gen Sony is probably done for, they are one mildly successful console away from being cornered out of their main market. PlayStation is not Nintendo and as it is it won't do well on its own.

The CMA was always open to remedial action. Nothing has changed. In the case of Microsoft vs. CMA, it's Microsoft who have blinked first. The question now is, how far are Microsoft willing to compromise in order to satisfy the CMA's expressed concerns.

What exactly were they meant to do to stop third parties from making business decisions?

It's starting to sound to me that you would've been fine with more anti-competitive behavior in the market so long as it came from Sony.
