They know the Xbox faithful are only going to pay attention to "34 million" and "4 games" and celebrate. This will buy them some time until the games outside of the 4 games get released.

When she claimed that Xbox subscription services grew 10% this past year, of course she failed to mention that important detail.

So, they were in a position where they had already got away with charging people for paid online but decided to pivot to the Gamepass business model.

That required them to include all their games day 1, reduced the sales of all games on their platform, requires them to keep paying other publishers and ultimately lead them to spend over $80B in acquisition in a few years.

All to end up with 34m subscribers (many of them paying less then $9 a month) and a service that has completely stagnated.

Gamepass isn't even as big as TLoU TV show.

We are close to year 7 and it turned out to be a completely unprofitable business model that destroyed their platform and dragged MS into a spiral of acquisitions to try and make it work and still it hasn't worked at all but instead it stagnated and collapsed.
