Phil Spencer admits defeat in console space, and doesn't think great games would help Xbox's market share.

⏰New Talking Point Just Dropped⏰

In a long line of nothing mattering, Winning doesnt matter now!

Microsoft Xbox division is basically a Chinese chop shop throwing out 1 dollar items and Jez is happy about it.

What a clown.

I don't know where to begin, the fact that he admitted defeat like that shows how weak the brand has become, with him being the leader, and him making promises since his inception and it being broken time after time, shows that he needs to be terminated by Microsoft if Microsoft really does care about the Xbox branding, then they need to sit down with him and force him to take charge or terminate him and hire someone else who is willing to show force and force their current management to withhold their current studios and if it's true that Xbox does give their studios complete freedom also shows how week they are as well. This was a very bad PR move and whoever approved him to say those things sure does not like their job. A better approach would be if they can talk about how they can maintain their relationship with their current studios and how they can promise to change within their studios and the Xbox brand itself. Clearly, it shows that there's no true management and they allow everyone to do whatever they want. Shame on Phil Spencer.

That guy has no clue at all.

I mean, he thinks people just buy the logos or something?

It makes sense if you think about it, when he talks he's all about business models, IPs and brand loyalty. Like it was some sort of sports team or purse brand.

People buy Sony or Nintendo consoles because they like the games that are on these machines, people use Steam on PC because it's where the games are (mostly). The rest is fluff (so long as it's not broken).

This is like GM saying that if they had made their cars better Toyota would not have surpassed them.

Neither he or MS have the patience to invest in games for the next 10 years hoping that things will turn around because of that. They just want to find the quickest way to establish themselves as the middle man to make money in the console space.

The amount of cheering for xbox from the media after Phil’s defeatists comments is appalling. Since when failure is tolerated to such extent? Failure begets failure and they don’t understand.

No one else gets this treatment anywhere across any industry.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the same people ask for Jim’s dismissal soon.

I think that Xbox deliberately don't want to make good games and release them in broken state just to weaken Xbox more and to buy Activision. That's my 2 cents. :p

That's hilarious, given how many of them cared VERY much when Xbox "won" the 360 gen.
It's the only reason Xbox even has fans today.

This is the correct interpretation. Microsoft may be conniving, but this will not play to regulators at all. This isn't a ploy to encourage approval - the ship has sailed and the deal (and future ones) are dead.

This is Phil trying to show vulnerability to his fanbase and it backfiring horrendously. It's painted Xbox as feeble garbage and signed their death warrant as a 1st party.

Imagine working for this guy? How can a leader be so weak and think they can be effective?

This latest move and interview has Don Mattrick vibes not long before he was fired. He made some terrible PR moves and then was canned.

People that think there is a path to have all games on Gamepass while using tricks to convert Gold to Gamepass are the reason why they still have any fans at this point.

The Xbox fan is just a cheap person that doesn't want to pay for games and would rather play games of lesser quality if it means paying less.

I feel like Phil should've been the leader that he claims to be and approach his words carefully and say that him and his team plan to overlook their current management and team and fix what has been damaged. This is the first time ever I have ever seen a CEO has ever admitted defeat like that, you would think they would somehow make an excuse or a generic solution to the current matter.
