Man I absolutely have no use for this option, probably the two XBOX fans who always say "where is 1440p", will be pissed now, no, they won't be happy, I can assure you. They only spoke about it because XBOX had it and PS didn't.

Truth is, nobody uses this, why would I hook up my console to a 1440p monitor in the first place, 4k tv's have been dirt cheap for ages and the 1440 monitors I had just seems like ages ago.

Yet, I'm happy for options, especially for this feature, just to shut the vocal 1440p goons, even DF were on that bandwagon too. Hopefully Sony allows 120Hz system wide on PS5 next, this will also help with LFC for VRR. They also need to allow 8k at the video settings menu, even though there is only one game presently. I'm sure more games will come, even those who would do 8k with T.I, CB or FSR 2.0. In the end, Sony just needs to open up the bandwidth from 32Gb to 48Gb on the HDMI lane.
If you happen to only have a 1440p monitor that doesn't handle 4K output it sucks that you would need to play at 1080p upscaled to 1440p. Very situational but for people that already have a monitor or that don't want to pay a lot more for 4K monitors it's an important feature. Not to mention how ridiculously easy something like this has to be to implement.

Because it is not actually folders like PS4 had.
It is just a collection list or tag.
And it's better for it. I prefer this kind of tags solution. That way I find Rogue Galaxy either under "PS2 Classic" or "RPG".

Ewww no folders still? Damn
How does this work?
In your collection you create customizaed game lists.
You can add the same game to several game lists you created... there is a limitation you can have 15 game lists with max of 100 games each...
Visually is probably like folder if you ask me.

No I agree. I personally have no use for it. I've had my 4k LG monitor for years already with HDR, Freesync etc, so if I have to resort to a monitor it would still be at 4k. I'm happy for the feature to be honest, as an option, but it's certainly not a high demand feature. Yet if your Tv breaks and all you have is a 1440p monitor lying around, it's definitely great. Yet I can't see someone buying a $500 XBOX or PS5 and having no TV, you can probably get a TV cheaper than the price of these consoles too, even on sales. I also don't see anyone playing a console hooked up to a monitor for too long, you will have to be close to that monitor. Console + TV is just the most comfortable option, better for your eyes too.

The feature itself if good to have.
But it has a very situational use and I don't believe it was a very requested feature (in the past PS.Blog have a wishlist by public votes and 1440p support didn't get tracking at all).

Only gamers with 1440p monitors that doesn't support supersample with 4k signal will have use for that feature.
It is niche because most big monitor manufactures already allowed 4k signal via firmware update in their 1400p monitors and all new 1440p monitors for some years already have support to it.

But yeap there are some guys with old 1440p monitor that manufacturer didn't care about update it that will be very happy with that feature.
This feature is basically the PS5 doing the job that some monitors couldn't do.

Probably DF will make a test to see if the PS5 supersampling is better or worst than 1440p monitor supersampling... most of time consoles do better job in these features than the monitors/TVs due processing power (monitors uses very low power CPUs).

?

Are you really going to tell us that there wasn't a ton of PS5 users demanding features like VRR and 1440p ? You have been on GAF and Era, you should know better how many people kept talking about it every time there were system updates.

It may be unnecessary for your specific use case, but clearly a lot of other people wanted it.
Tons of PS5 users? The vast majority of console user don't know what VRR or 1440p even are.

Once again, if the demand wasn't there, there would have been no reason to add it just to appease the very small vocal minority like you say.

Yes, most houses in the world aren't like the second picture. You're not saying anything controversial here 🤔

What?
I never entered in a house that is not similar to what I posted.
That is the standard living room.

TV on hack/wall in the back and couch on the front with some mini table on center or sides.

Decoration and details aside even Soundbars and HT are market to that type of living room... that is the common.

You should probably visit more people then if you think this is what an average house around the world looks like 😂

Yes it is.
C'mon.

You have U-shape, L-shape, or just a line of couch... in all of them the layout is similar with TV in back and couch in the front.

I bet you will never hear of this feature anymore, being discussed as essential. Just like all talks of VRR has died, so will this. Few people had VRR tv's and few people console game on 1440p monitors. The feature was only implemented to quell the loud crowd. People will now move on to another feature no one uses that is only on one console.

Vrr and 1440p were gamechangers before, now, not so much.

As if Sony ever did what people were asking for lol, they do whatever suits them. This was extremely easy to implement yet it took them years.

When you don't have the games you have to promote your product with any features you can find that the competitor doesn't have, regardless of how trivial or insignificant they are.

To this day Xbox fans promote AAA batteries as a superior solution somehow. They even ignore the fact that the much more expensive gamepad MS sells actually uses a rechargeable battery.

Question for this, does the tv need to have a specific 1440p mode for this to work or it something the PS5 will make happen? I have a sony 900h if that helps any. Thanks.

I don't know what to say or add lol, I don't want to say you live in a selective bubble but you're just making it seem like it 🤔

No, they're still game changers. I don't know about you but I absolutely love VRR and talk about it whenever there's context.

Chill with the rhetoric lol.

It wouldn't matter much in your TV's case, this is targeted more towards PC monitor users.

Mine for example is a lot similar to that layout:

How do people sit so far away from their TVs?

Then they come here to complain how games aren't native 4K...

I guess that also explains people obsession with huge TVs, it must never occurred to them that you can just get closer to it.

Your post doesn't make any sense. Of course people discuss differences, while similarities are boring and are rarely discussed.

They're twisting themselves like pretzels to make arguments. Either the features aren't important enough, or they're important enough that they think its a win over Xbox. Make up your minds folks 😂
