Not in a million years.

13% is what the PS4 Pro got when it released for the same 400€ in 2016 as the regular PS4 did in 2013.

The PS5 Pro costs 800€ which is twice as much as the PS5 Digital did at release in most markets, and the worldwide economy is generally worse in 2024 than it was in 2016 due to covid inflation.

I guess adoption in the US should be larger than anywhere else's due to the PS5Pro+disc being so much cheaper there, but if you're looking at worldwide numbers then it's not reaching the same audience for sure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it's like 8% in the US, 2% in Europe+UK and then less than 1% in Japan.

Anecdotally, eveyone in my close friends' group (7 total) got a PS4, two of us upgraded to the Pro. Now, 6 of us have the PS5 and no one is even considering getting the PS5 Pro.

It's ok, it's just a choice. I personally would buy it and find it being cheap even when sold here at ~$800 USD. Not buying a drive because I never bought a disc since 2014.

I thought you were from an EMEA country. How much does the Pro cost there?

PS5 slim disc version is 215 OMR ($559), digital is 179 OMR ($465.4), but haven't checked the PS5 Pro price yet but seems to be 310 OMR according to neighboring market ($806). Add 5% VAT above that (we had no VAT until 2021 for the first time).

400$ from 2016 is 531$ today.
so by inflation alone, ps4 pro was 531$.

Then cost of everything is higher. so 700$ for ps5 is what it is.
I am more capable today of spending 700$ 800euro than I was spending 400$ in 2016....

That's a false equivalence because there were no discless PS4 models. Also, as mentioned in the post you quoted, the price difference between US and elsewhere is significant.

The PS4 Pro was 400€ at release. With eurozone inflation that would be 510€.
A PS5 Pro with disc attachment in the EU is 920€.

510€ to 920€, 80% more expensive after inflation is what it is.

Also, 920€ is $1028 at current rates. I wonder how many people in the US would be more capable today of spending $1028 than they were of spending $450 in 2016.

Seems preorders aren't open in my country yet, lol. But I think the regular pro would be very easy to get, as PS5 at launch wasn't too hard to get either as I preordered it and got it day one. Most people who wanted it would wait around 1-4 weeks max when the whole world was struggling to get one.

Preorders weren't online, you go to the shop and put your name and number. 1 console per person max.

LOL Mat Piscatella turning into a rabid fanboy. Say what you will about Tom Warren, all he said was "there will be stock for this console in stores this holiday", nothing else, and the dude completely flipped.

The same Mat Piscatella who decided to block everyone on X who did any criticism of Assassin's Creed Shadows, claiming only the racists and bigots were saying anything negative about the game. After that tirade, he blocked people asking him what type of criticism could ever be done towards the game.

The guy's an idiot, right next to Michael Pachter. A sign of the rotten old times from old media and old "game influencers" that are on their way out.

The exterior of the PS5 Pro follows the design of the PS5 family. It's the same height as the PS5 Fat and the same depth as the currently available PS5 Slim, but has a higher specification.
It also supports the installation of an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, and the front panels can be replaced when the shells for the PS5 Pro are released.

This means that PS5 slim covers will not be compatible with the PS5 Pro, or only part of it (lower covers only).

A bit strange.

It should go very slightly above what it costs, people should be accustomed to that. $600 in 2027 should come close to $500 in 2020.

Somehow gamers have convinced themselves that cost should not be passed onto them in any way. It's a really bad trait for a sustained hobby.

Yeah but not the people in America. Here in EU we will need to pay 799.99 Euros and UK
£699.99, which already quite high the price. Heck folks in America are complaining about 70 bucks for games which has been in Europe standard. We pay now for current-gen 80 Euros and 80 pound sterling.

Of course not accounting the outrageous difference in pricing from one market to another.
