ND is a lot of people working together and I'm sure there are some that lean more to the movie making side but there are definitely passionate gamers there and they do have great gameplay.

I'm sure they are making something everyone here will love.
Bro they've grown exponentially they have over 400 employees, at times close to 500. They also house Ice Team. Idk how much more ppl want them to grow lol

TLoU Part 2 was great and released in 2020. The clock is ticking but we have studios like Bend and Sucker Punch that released a game before ND and are yet to show their new games.

Not getting the MP game out sucks but it remains to be seen how much it's going to cost them.
Ghost of Tsushima came out 1 month after TLOU2 and it had a nice expansion plus free online multiplayer mode. Bend just started development of a new IP last year, so I doubt we see anything from them anytime soon.

Damn, in my mind it was the other way around, I associate TLoU with june because of the first one.

These fans are whining impatient crybabies who must understand that, even if ignoring Legacy of Thieves Collection, TLOUP1, TLOUP2 Remaster, the pc ports and TLOU Online, new AAA games take 6-8+ years.

I dont agree respectfully. We’re not whining, we’re just not use to hearing nothing for so long. None of Naughty Dogs game have taken longer than a 3-4 years from there last release, let alone not hear anything. All Top quality, game of the year standard if not game of the generation. And we hear about them way before they are released.

Uncharted 1 - 2007
Uncharted 2 - 2009
Uncharted 3 - 2011
TLOU - 2013
Left Behind - 2014
Uncharted 4 - 2016
Lost Legacy - 2017
TLOU2 - 2020

2024… No news. Its not standard

Im not counting remakes and ports because thats shouldn’t be there job. Above are all new games. If your making your best studio work on remakes than thats just awful management.

Yes games are taking longer and longer to make, but ND and Santa Monica are thee premier studios for Sony. They made so much money during the PS4 era. They should of invested in these studios way more. Both make games quicker, and more of them.
Look at Insomniac or Fromsoft. Expanded well with multiple projects.
Its embarrassing that ND had to choose between being a Gaas Studio or carry on making single player games, Sony/Jim/Herman should of funded them enough to do both. They are the best in what they do, so fund them like the best.

Its none of our business if Sony is mismanaging them and making there best studio work on Legacy of Thieves collection, TLOU1 Remake, TLOU2 Remaster or PC ports. That is just purely bad management and again wasting talent. Who prefers that over new games?… Seriously no1 if they are honest.

Give them bigger studios, more staff so they can make NEW games quicker. Not remasters and Remakes or PC ports.

People can disagree all they want, but who wouldnt prefer what I just said over Remakes and Remasters lol.

Personally I don’t see ND releasing a new game this gen.

I can forgive them for it since they were the pioneers of Sony First titles reaching the levels they are now.

Imagine if titles like Uncharted and TLOU didn’t appear on the PS3.

Would we have got the current GOW, Tsushima, Horizon etc.

They raised the standards at Playstation Studios.

Shit happens. They messed up going the GaaS route.

Let’s hope TLOU3 is a launch PS6 title.

If there is something I don't get is why Sony thinks it's a good thing to not announce games in advance or where they got that idea from. PS4 entire momentum was built on doing that.

I also have no idea if they are done supporting PSVR2 or not for example and that just makes me uneasy to get it even tho I want to.

I'm hoping they learned their lesson with the Wolverine leak.

Some fans defend it. But I liked how they use to do it, and how they use to do E3 before 2018.
Hearing about Bloodborne, Uncharted, TLOU, God of War way in advance was awesome and so much hype

As someone who usually have a gaming PC around when I don't have future games announced for the PS5 that I'm interested in and I keep seeing all their games releasing on PC it makes me question why I even have a PS5 in the first place, that never used to happen, I had total confidence over the entire PS4 life span that being a PlayStation costumer was worth it.

I also see many people around me that had PS4s and now have no interest in getting a PS5. There is something missing from PS5 that PS4 had.

AAA games take longer than they did a generation or two ago.

Insomniac and From already had a bigger team capable to work on 3+ games at the same time at the start of the previous generation, SSM and ND not, they did prefer instead to have a single bigger team.

In the Jimbo era, after releasing TLOU2 in 2020, ND grew from being able to work in a single game to be working on at least 3 new games (TLOU Online + at least 2 SP games) + supporting remasters/remakes/ports/movie/tv show. The remasters/remakes/movies/tv show only require them a small portion of their team because they are mostly done elsewhere, but give them extra profitability that they need to fund their big games. And is work they do, so they do count even if obviosly not as the same as the big projects.

SSM grew to be working on -at least- 2 new games (GoW + new IP) plus Valhalla and supporting the PC port(s).

Its embarrassing that ND had to choose between being a Gaas Studio or carry on making single player games, Sony/Jim/Herman should of funded them enough to do both. They are the best in what they do, so fund them like the best.
Jim and Hermen did fund them grow to became in a few years over 3 times as big as they were. To grow a studio isn't just to put more money to hire people. As the studio grows the are many changes related to management, organization, processes, studio culture, etc. that require some time of adaptation, you can't grow too fast because many things can go wrong.

ND does the games they want. They wanted to make these 3 games, but later realized that to do the GaaS properly they'd have to dedicate it more resources than they originally though, which would affect the other teams. Something they didn't want because they want to focus on SP games, so they killed the GaaS and will make another SP game instead.

Sony isn't mismanaging them, they broke sales and GOTY records with their most recent game and even with the movie and TV show. Plus did help them grow to work on more than 3 times the stuff they did before.

The costs of these big AAA games is so expensive, the 3 main games they were working on pretty likely did cost over a billion combined, and they have to consider that from time to time some game gets cancelled (like TLOU Online) or tanks in sales. And aren't the only ones, PS Studios has over two dozen games more under development plus the Bungie ones. So it's a big risk and there's finite money, so they have to be careful.

These ports/remasters/remakes/movie & tv show adaptations require very little work from ND because are mostly done in other studios and are very profitable for them, which help them be more safe if some game tanks or gets cancelled.

Shit happens. They messed up going the GaaS route.

Let’s hope TLOU3 is a launch PS6 title.
I'd bet that their next games will be:
  • Uncharted 5/spinoff - 2026 (the project they started with Bend)
  • New IP - November 2027 (crossgen launch PS6 game)
  • TLOU 3 - 2028/2029 (crossgen, partly refurbishing story and assets made for TLOU Online)
Somewhere in this or early next generation, mostly developed by external studios:
  • Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection (remastered for PS5 + PC)
  • Uncharted VR spinoff by Firesprite (think an evolved Horizon CoM)

If a studio could top TLOU Part II then I’d say the complaints are warranted, but 4 years on it still stands tall against even the most recent hit games in terms of quality.

Like i said, remasters and tv series is not my business. IThe TV series has nothing to do with the gaming studios anyway, but if remasters and remakes are slowing them down then its bad mismanagement.

I enjoy the tv series too.
Having to wait till 2026 is not good management.

Capcom, FromSoft, Insoniac, are all producing games just as fast as last gen

Anyway, Ill let the games do the talking and so far there is nothing on schedule from PS studios this year? Officially.

Im not talkiny Team Ninja + Xdev or Kojima, Helldivers, or Stellar Blade, Im talking purely PS studios. Like ND, Sucker Punch, Santa Monicsx HouseMarque, Insomnisc, Bluepoint etc etc.

Last year there was 1 PS5 console exclusive from PS Studios (Spiderman 2) this year we have zero officially scheduled.

Theres no point defending it, its my observation. If you are happy having no games from Sony Playstation studios this year, good for you, Im not happy. I want 3 a year. Sony broke records, made insane amounts of money, they need to do more

None of the games mentioned have the production value of a ND game, they are not going to pump out games like TLoU like FromSoftware or Insomniac are able to pump out their games. I don't want ND to change to keep pace with other studios, I want them to keep doing their thing.

ND is the least of Sony's problem. Sony's problem is that they simply don't have enough studios or partners to keep the same pace of releases we used to have now that games take much longer to make.

My question is, why does Sony with a guaranteed 100m+ installed base every single gen and most of their AAA games selling 10m+ is so afraid to invest on expanding PlayStation?

And we have a winner. This is Sony's biggest issue right now. They need quite a few more IPs to plug those holes.

And people here keep talking about helldivers 2 and concord, if it wasnt for this forum I wouldn't even know those games existed.

I literally don't know anyone excited for those games. I wouldn't be surprised if they both flop as hard as starfield and redfall.
