Rumor of PlayStation using Third Party to help "catch up" after GAAS misfires gathers credibility

Meh all the brand power that playstation has is cooked. With the PS 3 at least they had new games coming on a regular cadence. Now they are just creatively bankrupt and just pump out remasters/remakes.

Sony has just ceded the rest of the gen to switch 2, Karma will bite them in the ass when TLoU 3 and Borizon 3 underperform by a large margin

Never heard of Freedom Wars.

For a moment I thought it was a rebrand of Famicom/Advance Wars.

Freedom Wars is a great Vita game. The plot is basically you have a very long sentence of 10,000 years [so something equally ridiculous] that you can reduce by carrying out missions. However, if you do silly things in the prison you can get more time added such as running. It's great to see it coming back.

Guys, you're taking this way too seriously, it's an old Vita game that 90% of you never heard of. You can start throwing a fit when they start putting their super major 1st party games day one on PC/Switch, that'd be the day to start transitioning into PC

It starts with "it's an old Vita game", "it's a LEGO game", "it's GaaS anyway", "it's a port of an old game", "it's a remake", "it's because of the TV show".... and ends with "oh well, they already have ported basically everything else".

With Freedom Wars coming to various platforms through Namco, it seems there is more truth to this by the day.

Freedom Wars remaster has been in development for 3 years. It has nothing to do with any gass misfires. Last year, it was rumored that Bandai would release several PS Legacy IPs as new games. These games will take yrs. There would be no point in using them to catch up because of GAAS misfires, as lots of PS party studio games would be ready before them. The best-case scenario would be 2026-27 games that would hardly put PS in any position to catch up. Also, these are small IPs that aren't going to sell a huge lot.

Nah, they won't chance their strategy because one game tanked and a handful got cancelled (and replaced by other GaaS, still have over a dozen coming).

Sony published Freedom Wars on Vita, but it was developed by Dimps. So maybe Dimps got its rights -the game didn't sell a shit, so pretty likely Sony wasn't going to use it and didn't care as did with several other minor 2nd party titles of a couple generations ago- and now went with Bandai to publish the remaster in more platforms.

Regarding Sega, they publicly announced they have multiple classic old IPs that are being resurrected as remakes or new entries and shown some of these new titles: Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio etc. They also mentioned that want to focus more on multiplatform, on localizing better their games and to more languages and on releasing their games worldwide day one. Which is compatible with to continue doing some exclusive from time to time.

It's fucking embarrassing. It's great to see something that commercially flopped be revived. The Vita has a lot more that could be ported to PS5. Some need a bit of work to get around the Vita controls.
Yes, it's a case similar to Rime or the ThatGameCompany games to mention a few examples: Sony doesn't have more plans for them, so allow the devs to use the IP elsewhere.

Fifteen more days till we see the next flop from SIE, Until Dawn remake, lol. Good Job, Sony. You turned an avid fan who bought most of your releases into someone who now actively cheers for your games to flop
How is it a flop? This is pretty much just a pc release and a PS5 port. It's not like they are releasing a new game that costs 10s millions to make and market. The movie will probably be released next year, and the game will make the IP more visible. It isn't intended to do earth-shattering numbers.

While I believe they're pivoting away from GaaS to an extent, the rest sounds like BS.

Were you forced to work on GaaS? Then why was ND allowed to shut down Factions?
It be! Freedom Wars sold a few three hundred thousand copies. That's not replacing any game numbers or even a fraction of what factions would have done. The segacrumored wipeout game may be accurate, but the franchise has only sold a few million copies. The new game isn't going to do any significant numbers. Sony is emphasizing IP ownership and talking about it a lot this year and will probably revive the old franchise. Still, it's utterly unrelated to gas, and this began years ago before any grass issues.

It wont even do the bare minimum numbers, This is going to hit concord numbers on steam and same on PS5. No one is clamouring to play until dawn again with better graphics.

SIE has hit the cartoon zone of games selling 25k copies on launch, flops like these will become more and more prevalent now
