that's from the "ex sony dev" on twitter. Idk his track record

His track record is that he is full of shit, dude also pretends to have info on Xbox, Square Enix, etc. All lies.

Going back on his tweets you can see he was one of the fools that believed BG3 was going to release day one on Gamepass for Xbox. Dude is obviously just guessing a lot of stuff hoping to get one thing right one day, still hasn't happened apparently.

Guys don’t get your hopes up, Sony wont buy anything.
These two situations aren't mutually exclusive. They can close down a studio and still buy a publisher. hell, it makes even more sense as they're cutting cost.

Is any of that verified as real/part of the leak? If not, please stop spreading misinformation.
I didn’t know it was the document of Smith Alex. I found it on Reddit, which said thread was deleted. Regardless of Alex Smith I have heard from different sources that Sony will have big acquisition in Q1 FY24.

New Fiscal year begins in Japan at April 1st 2024. Q1 = April, May and June. So we should hear news there if the reports are correct.

Sony will make big acquisitions, they'll buy SE, Sony will have a great showcase, Sony is holding back great announcement... we have heard it again and again for years at this point. It's tiresome.

I'll believe once it's an actual leak or and official announcement.

Thank you for the info but you and Kiryu are the only ones excited about this.

As I said this is not a deal between Tecmo and Sony to get stuff like Wild Hearts, Dead or Alive, Nioh and Ninja Gaiden.

It's a deal for Akatsuki to bring their gacha games (maybe developed by Tecmo) to consoles. The lack of any interest and discussion regarding this news is very telling.
I never said it was a deal between Tecmo and Sony. I suggest you the read the more detailed post I linked from other thread, where I explain who these guys are and what these deals are (not to bring gatchas to console).

If something, it may be telling that they are not interested of games like Genshin Impact, JPRGs or popular mobile games in Japan / Asia. Which is understandable, because these games aren't targeted to them, but to a different type of (Asian) player where Sony wants to expand.

Guys don’t get your hopes up, Sony wont buy anything.

Nothing leads to think that Sony will close one of their studios or that they are cutting costs. The source of that is a misunderstanding from a screenshot of a txt/mail supposedly from the leak, that in any case says Sony will shut down one of their studios, and doesn't say anything about layoffs.

What the screenshot seems to say is that they wanted to start quickly a shorter game to release it in 2027 so they were asking to move headcount from projects scheduled to be released after 2028 to this project and also ask for many support/outsourcing studios to push it.

And yes, the Sony boss said they don't plan to make big acquisitions for the short term due to market conditions, and decided to delay them the mid to long term.

Dudes will never get tired of dooming and will never comprehend the fact that these things take years. Like children who want the candy RIGHT NOW.

He said that Insomniac was negotiating Ghost Rider, "soon you'll play Sunset Overdrive in PS5", "Wolverine will have a DLC with Hulk", Sony is acquiring Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Take 2, the rights to films and series from Konami's ips: Castlevania, Metal Gear and Silent Hill (he doesn't seem to know Sony already is working on a MGS movie), "Hermen Hulst visited CD Projekt multiple times in the last few months" etc.

He's constantly lying.

If he ever gets something right he is going to be riding on it forever.

Are these types of guy making any money out of it? If so I should consider becoming a fake insider too because I have more realistic guesses than they have.

Here he calls the leaked Wolverine "an Alpha version", when it's a vertical slice or a first playable. Very far from being an Alpha version:

Which leads to think he never worked in a AAA studio as a dev, even if he claims in his bio to be a former dev from Deviation, Bend and Ember Lab. And obviously there's no "Alex Smith" in the game credits of Kena or the last 4 Bend games.

It IS an Alpha version of the game. The guy's full of it but still.

No, it's a vertical slice, with a work in progress prototype of the second playable character (meaning, they were starting with her) and the block out of one of the hub areas (meaning, they didn't have completed even the first one) of the game. Screenshot from the build's main menu:

image.png

An Alpha build is when the game is feature complete and playable from start to finish, even if with many bugs, tons of placeholders or unfinished/unoptimized/unpolished stuff still around regarding art, sound or level design, plus several minor things still to be implemented or in a rough state.

Vertical Slice instead is a way earlier milestion. When, before start gradually producing all the game areas, they focus on a single small stage of the game to make a demo that would look and feel as the aim the final game to be, featuring all the main game mechanics, visual and audio style, tech, everything with more or less the quality and style they expect the game to be.

With the idea of testing that putting everything together works and to have it as reference for the rest of the team to develop the rest of the game.

This build is an unfinished vertical slice.

We can scratch them from Sony’s list. This makes Sony’s first big buy more likely to be based in Japan.

CDPR was a hoax. But for the likes of Square there are persistent rumours ongoing. I wouldn’t declare it as cope, it’s too early to judge on that as final.

That's all well and good but being part of an First party studio organisation takes off a lot of weight off your chest and makes you instantly rich
The thinking that sony would commit to CDPR is absolutely right because if you are committing to CDPR you will be committing to PC which they have kind off done with Bungie but it's already a autonomous studio
That could change in future where sony men takeover bungie

A Sega acquisition would've been possible after Persona 5's success while it was still exclusive. Sony and Sega had an amazing relationship and partnership before Jim/Hermen flushed it down the toilet. Now there's probably a 3% chance they get Sega, and Square Enix is 0%.

CDPR has plenty of security as it is. If they were able to weather the storm that was CP2077's initial launch, they can deal with anything. They're a publicly traded company worth over 10b dollars lol, they can always issue and sell more shares if they need money or bring in institutional investment. Plus they're backed by the Polish government and receive grants, subsidies, and other federal assistance. Safety isn't a concern at all for them, which is why they just opened up a brand new studio in the US.
