Played a little more. It's just a very, very, middling game. No doubt the space theme is fun, but the style is so derivative of other "good stuff." At least Mass Effect felt like its own twist on things, even though that stole a bunch of ideas too (Babylon 5 especially). Last night while playing I picked out Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and Vangelis, almost directly lifted in the soundtrack. Again, Mass Effect felt like its own style but still felt like a space epic (at least part 1 did).

It's just the same old thing, but with more barren landscapes than ever, sponge bullet enemies at times with zero sense of actually hitting anything when youre firing, and ass loads of menu driven gameplay.

I just kinda don't get it.

Honestly the best parts are when I can "talk through" a situation, and persuade someone to do what you want. Of course this is somewhat locked behind the whole perks system or whatever it's called. In fact, tons of gameplay is locked behind that, which requires leveling. Which requires a grind.

I got to Akila and did some of the opening main stuff and it's just ... ok. And the game is so buggy and glitchy it feels completely unfinished. I actually got some captures of stuff I've seen which I might upload just for fun. But that kind of stuff is all over the place in this game. I guess that's just Bethesda for you, and I'm not sure why it gets a pass.

The positives. Again, I like the theme. I like space/sci-fi stuff much more than orcs and wizards. I like that there is a lot of player choice, and plenty to do. Again, this is one reason I like RPGs and have liked them since I discovered them. They make for great games in general. This game could have just been so much more. So much more.

Said it before and I'm saying it again. This game would be getting trashed if it was still a 3rd party release. I think a 7 is as high as the score should go. It's basically a 5-7 depending on how you perceive it.

Bethesda needs to get their tech ducks in a row before their next release.

Where it’s at.

Bethesda got 10s for Skyrim, which launched almost completely unplayable broken on PS3.

They’ve always been given Special Olympics scores for their games until the public backlash against Fallout ‘76 being reviewed better than it deserved. It’s like the reviewers know Bethesda is a bunch of incompetents, so they give them an extra 2 or 3 points “to encourage the poor unfortunate bastards” or something like that.

So how did Starfield turn out? Did Bethesda reaffirmed their reputation as a great dev? You OK Sirclaw? Extremely funny to see everyone now agreeing with my "controversial" opinion, maybe I know a thing or two about the stuff I talk about.

I can't say I enjoyed it, dropped it after about 10h of pure torture. Worst game I played this year by far.

I was banned but I was reading threads here, I don't think anyone noticed but there was actually an active Gamepass for $1 trial when this game was released, that is how I played it (I got the offer trough the Windows store, don't know how widespread it was).

Later I also got a code after buying a new AMD GPU. This game was being given away and the buzz around it still died rather quickly. Biggest failed release since Cyberpunk except that Cyberpunk actually sold extremely well.

What was your controversial opinion? Many of us pre release still felt it wouldnt score high. I guessed an 83 meta and guess what? Thts around what the score ended up being. I guess a good amount of ppl who saw what was coming knew what they were talking about.

I said something like "Bethesda is a trash dev" and that Starfield would suck in classic Bethesda fashion. At the time Sirclaw was on a crusade to make this a safe space for Adam's Apple and I was sacrificed on that process because I didn't bow down to that. Turns out you get what you fraking deserve, that dude is pure cancer on Neogaf now, 100% troll.

Turns out it sucked much more than I predicted since to me it is far worse than Skyrim or Fallout 3 (games I always disliked). I actually thought Starfield maybe would be somewhat good because of the setting that is why I gave it a fair chance. I was wrong and it's offensively boring and I can't even believe reviews that gave it more than 7/10 had any legitimacy or were done by actually professional reviewers.

Just a general point. Some people love to post with a "know it all", condescending tone and manner and that is also very toxic and will not be tolerated for too long as it doesn't benefit the site or lead to fruitful discussion. Just keep in mind many of us are enthusiasts and we all have some type of knowledge of gaming, some more than others but please be open to other ppls opinions and knowledge. Don't be condescending and respect and we can all get along well. If you genuinely dissent against what might be the status quo do so gracefully and with reasons and don't go on a "oh I know it all because I know about the industry and have three degrees" tangent. No one cares or wants to hear that or continue discussion that way.

@Sircaw you've been warned fishy!
