Not true, the majority of first party games being under development aren't GaaS.

They have 'over 10' or 'a dozen' GaaS under development out of MORE THAN 25 games (some estimated around between 30-40 including VR) being under development at PS Studios + games under development at Bungie which are minimum 3. So 12 GaaS out of MORE THAN 28 games.

And yet, fuck all to show except... GaaS.

Sony first parties are doing videogames, same as they always did.

Nowadays AAA games need at least 5-6+ years of development, and Sony tradidionally doesn't show them until they're around a year, or a year and a half, from release. Sometimes even only some months before release. So be patient.

  • ND: just released TLOUP1 on PS5+PC and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves on PS5+PC, released TLOU2 before that 3 years ago. They are working on TLOU online and multiple SP games.
  • SSM: recently released GoWR, are working in minimum the next GoW after GoWR and -since 2018- in Cory's new IP.
  • Bluepoint: recently released GoWR as support team, working in another new game as support team.
  • Valkyrie: recently released GoWR as support team and ported GoW to PC, pretty likely are supporting SSM on their next projects and/or porting something else.
  • Bend: released Days Gone + PC port around 4 years ago, they are working on a new IP using Days Gone mechanics and systems.
  • Insomniac: recently released Rift Apart and 3 PC ports, will release Spider-Man 2 soon, Wolverine next and have at least another game under development.
  • Sucker Punch: released GoT+GoTDC a few years ago, are working at least in GoT2 since 2+ years ago.
  • San Diego: recently released MLB, will continue releasing MLB games
  • Guerrilla: just released HFW+DLC and Horizon CoM. Working on at least Horizon 3 and Horizon online.
  • Firesprite: just released Horizon CoM, working on multiple games. Apparently one is a narrative adventure and another one is rumored to be Twisted Metal.
  • Media Molecule: recently stopped Dreams support (was released 3 years ago) and moved to work on a new game.
  • Housemarque: recently released Returnal+DLC+PC port, working on a bigger new IP since a couple years ago.
  • Sony London: released Blood & Truth 4 years ago, are working on a MP new IP set in a fantasy London.
  • Bungie: Working on Destiny 2 Final Shape, Marathon and more games, pretty likely being Matter one of them.
  • Firewalk: Working on Concord since they founded the studio in 2018, to be released next year.
  • Haven: Working on $Fairgames and in engine/dev tools stuff for PS Studios.
  • Polyphony: Recently released GT7+GT7VR, working on GT7 content and make sure they're working on GT8.
  • Team Asobi: working on a light hearter 3D action game with humour bigger than the previous Astro games.
  • Nixxes: recently released several PC ports, will continue releasing several PC ports.
  • XDEV: working on more 2nd party games than ever.

Firesprite is basically the resurrection of Sony Liverpool Studio (Wipeout, Psygnosis), Evolution (Motorstorm, Driveclub) and Bizarre Creations (Project Gotham Racing, Metropolis Street Racer, Geometry Wars, Blur) combined and mixed with young talent and people from multiple other AAA studios.

Sony didn't part ways with them. They are fine and working on new IPs.

We don't know the platforms of the next Toyama and Udea games, we don't know the publisher of the Toyama game and both could be supported by Sony via Shuhei Yoshida's PlayStation Indies.

Thread.

This properly explains where everyone is better then any post I feel anyone can make. Covid has disrupted a lot, so many games likely planned for this year was moved to next and so on and that likely goes for their reveals too. So they have AAA goodness plan for 2024, 2025, 2026 etc

Keep in mind, many are disregarding other titles that Sony publishes by studios they don't own like Death Stranding 2

What are they releasing in 2024 that's not a live service game? We know of potentially Wolverine and Death Stranding 2, and neither are confirmed.
DS2, Stellar Blade, Rebirth, Rise of The Ronin.

All of them are third party and some published by SIE. Either way I think COVID fucked Sony studios hard and Jimbo is finding other solutions for PS5 exclusive games. Sony could buy more SP studios or even publishers to help but that would take time.

To be fair can't blame Jimbo on acquisitions, he probably got a lot planned out but need time to be approved by higer-ups. PS currently kinda low on first party studios compared to its competitor

Final Fantasy 16 > Spider-Man 2 > Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth.

If I recall correctly, they recently announced that several first-party titles have been delayed.

I don't see them having another State of Playay anytime soon with The Video Game Awards around the corner. That's really the perfect time to reveal their next big triple A title.

I don't like Jimbo and Hurst at all but I don't think it is on them.

At least they did try to solve the issues?

True. They have a mixture of a lot of games coming next year from online to single player, from first party to second party to 3rd party.

They'll be fine lol

I don't know how everything will lay out of for them regarding releases but it could very well be something like this

2024

FairGames
Concord
Ronin
Stellar Blade
Death Stranding 2
FFVII Remake part 2
etc

2025
Last Of Us Factions
Wolverine
Sony Bend new IP
Marathon

2026
Sony Santa Monica New IP
Naughty Dog New IP (by uncharted team)
Ghost Of Tsushima 2

2027
Horizon Zero Dawn 3
GT8
Team Asobi platformer
Sony London new IP
Spiderman 3 (cause Insomniac does what they want)

it can be literally any combination of that.

Jimbo fucked Sony Studios by having them focused on live-service shit. Covid had an impact, sure, but we're now getting into excuses territory.

It's also funny that Insomniac can release 3 games + 1 remaster between 2020 and 2023, but somehow other studios were so broken by covid they have NOTHING to show for in years.

To be fair can't blame Jimbo on acquisitions, he probably got a lot planned out but need time to be approved by higer-ups. PS currently kinda low on first party studios compared to its competitor

Or maybe there's nothing planned out except for support studios for their live service offerings.

The sad truth is that Sony, bar live-service crap, has completely abandoned the PSVR 2 and has no first-party offerings from their studios to show. That's it. I get the "closer to release" marketing, but it's becoming very obvious that they have NOTHING, else they would have released more than 1 DLC and 1 AAA SP game this year.

Hmm not sure if you remember, but Sony only release one-two AAA first party a year since 2016.

2013: Nope
2014: Nothing but a racing game
2015: Second Party exclusives like Until Dawn and Bloodborne
2016: Uncharted 4, magnum opus
2017: GT Sports and Horizon
2018: 2 big titties
2019: Kojimbo walking simulator second party
2020: Two big titties

So since PS5:
2020: Demon's Souls and a 50 dollars expansion
2021: Ratchet
2022: 3 big titties
2023: A DLC and Spider-man 2
2024: Stelass, Rise of the Freeloader, and Kojimbo walking simulator which are all second party. Nothing from first-party confirmed yet.

Seem pretty in line to me.
Square kinda carry Sony this year and next year and probably the following year so let's give them that.

Jimbo fucked Sony Studios by having them focused on live-service shit.

Who is them?

So....if you mean the teams working on that online stuff, those are also teams that spent a large part of their careers working on online games, who would do that better then teams that are used to doing that?

So "Jimbo fucked Sony" by having a team like Bungie who does online games, do...what? Online games? huh? lmfao

Factions is being done by a part of ND that has worked on online before as we had online with Uncharted series and The Last Of Us 1

Firewalk studios is made up of former Bungie developers, doing a multiplayer game would be something they are familiar with.

Haven Studios is a new studio formed from a former Ubisoft studio was already making a online game before Sony purchased them

More so, even if the argument was some fear that Sony would force teams to go online only, why haven't we seen that yet? Why even buy teams that do that if the goal was to have all teams do online and not some? Why would Insomniac be doing Spiderman 2 this fall and it be single player online when clearly it can be co-op seeing how the game is about multiple super heros?

Could Sony ONLY WANTING ONLINE not just force them to do Resistance 4, Resistance trilogy with online.....FUSE 2 lol So...they have an avenue they could have went with all of that, but I don't see any evidence that Sony is forcing any studio to do online, I see more evidence they want the studios that have a history of this...to just do this and allow the teams that normally focus on single player to continue to do that.

So I believe that focus on buying those teams was because the online stuff done by the existing studios failed to move units. I remember when folks kept making noise about Warhawk or a Socom reboot etc and I felt like, who the fuck would make it? Those games failed then and in order for them to do well, maybe they need a team that has a success in that area instead of their core teams trying to do that concept.

So you might see those purchases has a negative thing, thus this allows teams like Sony Bend, SuckerPunch, Sony Santa Monica, insomniac and many more to solely just focus on single player concepts and allow those other teams to work on online titles.

Keep in mind, this thread is literally about "what are Sony's First Parties even doing", that includes all genres...

edit. @historia lol yesssssssssssss even when I was typing that guessing at a 2027 release for GT8, I did think about a PS6 either already being out or about to release and it being cross gen or something lol

Are we considering PS Studios only? Or are we including Sony Owned IP? I'll go with the latter

2016
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • The Last Guardian
  • Uncharted 4
2017
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
  • Gran Turismo Sport
2018
  • God of War
  • Marvel's Spider-Man
  • Shadow of the Colossus
2019
  • Concrete Genie
  • Days Gone
  • Death Stranding
2020
  • Astro's Playroom
  • Demon's Souls
  • Dreams
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  • The Last of Us Part II
2021
  • Returnal
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut
  • Death Stranding Director's Cut
2022
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Horizon Forbidden West
2023
  • Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
As I have been saying, since the pipeline dried up, they have fuck all to show. And I won't even include several more titles that don't fit the "PS Studios" mold, because if I do, 2023 and beyond look even worse.

That's why Sony is finding solutions everywhere, Chinese vaporwares is still games, better than nothing.

Most of the studios they affiliated probably before covid so they can't guess that covid would probably fkes up production this bad.

It's on the same line? He fucked Sony Studios in general.

So "Jimbo fucked Sony" by having a team like Bungie who does online games, do...what? Online games? huh? lmfao

Sure. Guerrilla focused on online games, ND expanding the scope of their online game, Sucker Punch working on what is likely a bigger scope online game, want me to continue?

More so, even if the argument was some fear that Sony would force teams to go online only, why haven't we seen that yet? Biggest Studios
  • Naughty Dog is working on "The Last of Us Online" which is much bigger scope than previously. This bigger scope was only announced after Jim Ryan took over. Contrary to what some dick riders say, it's very likely this game is in development hell, and considering how many resources an online only game takes, it's very likely they focused 3 years on a remake, a port, and a failed online game.
  • Sucker Punch is working on an unspecified online game
  • Guerrilla is working on an Horizon online game
  • Santa Monica we have fuck all idea, so I'm going to assume they're working on a SP game
  • Polyphony are rightfully working on GT7
Other studios
I may be missing a couple, but people keep ignoring the cold reality.

I don't know man.
Gurerilla just released last year.
That beach from California I can't remember nam just released last year.

ND just released 3 years ago.
SP just released 3 years ago.
Bend, uh, probably scapped their project and just entered production for 1-2 years.

Sony kinda needs more SP studios that for sure.

No, Sony needs to stop having their SP studios focus on online shit that will fail.

Jimbo is so incompetent that he can't fathom that releasing 3 or 4 live service games in a couple of years will lead to all of them cannibalising each other, as well as have their best teams stuck supporting that crap.

I honestly and genuinely hope every single live service game by sony fails so that fraud can be finally ousted.

Also I hope SP would go to China next and ND moves on from TLOU. That world is absolutely got nothing interesting anymore, since the first game. China got the most interesting Eastern history, culture and there is like... 3 games.

Hell even Bend Days Gone deserves a sequel more than TLOU.

Guerrilla focused on online games, ND expanding the scope of their online game
? Both of those teams have made online titles before and they both have many teams..

GG literally just put out Horizon DLC and that Horizon VR game this year so....I don't see shit about them not fucking making single player games anymore cause they want to do some Horizon online thing, they are a team that has worked on that concept before with Killzone series, yet fucking did a single player only title with Horizon right after lol

ND is made up of many teams and only 1 of those teams is doing factions, the other 2 are working on different projects
, Sucker Punch working on what is likely a bigger scope online game
Likely Ghost Of Tushima 2, need I continue?
3 or 4 live service games announced vs ZERO SP releases?
Spiderman 2 is literally releasing next month
Insomniac is no example.
lmfao very soon it will be

"Death Stranding 2 is no example"
"Ghost Of Tushima 2 is no example"
"Ratchet is no example"
"Sony Bend new IP is no example"
"Ico remake is no example" lol

Yea...so it sounds like you might be having a conversation with yourself in a bit, you don't seem to want to have any real meaningful discussion as this thread is literally about what Sony first party titles are up to, not online vs single player.
