I picked up Remedium Sentinels (RS) on PS5 this evening. I've had a hankering for some Vampire Survivors (VS) and, of course, it's on every conceivable platform EXCEPT PlayStation. Anyway, Remedium Sentinels isn't great. I have Vampire Survivors on Xbox, but I've been dying to play it on PlayStation and earn those sweet trophies, and the different between VS and RS is crazy.
RS is mind numbingly slow. All the mechs that I've unlocked so far (about 4) move at a snail's pace, meanwhile the enemies are either the same speed or, in some cases, faster. You also don't deal a lot of damage unless you have multiple maxed out abilities, so you kill the enemies slowly, and since they move so quickly, once you become overrun it's damn near impossible to wipe out the hoard to get a chance to breathe. Most matches ended up being a cat and mouse game where I'd run around in circles, drawing the hoard behind me, and pick up the scraps of EXP from the ones I managed to kill.
Speaking of EXP, the drop rate for it is busted as hell. In VS, enemies drop experience probably 80% of the time or more, but in RS, it feels like they drop EXP 25% of the time if you're lucky. Combine that with the meager damage that you deal, especially early in the match, and you can spend a lot of time trying to kill enemies that don't even reward you with anything. Who thought this was a good idea?
Some other issues I had with the game include a limited number of attacks and upgrades, which leads to a huge lack of variety for builds. Other than the two mechs that use the same melee attack, which is exclusive to them, any mech can learn any attack/skill, and some are far worse than others, which leads to the crappy ones not being picked. As I mentioned above, the enemies are very fast and your mech isn't, so the decoy ability is pretty much necessary if you want to actually finish the match. However, the decoy is also useless on the first couple levels because it explodes almost instantly and doesn't draw the enemies to it as a result. So you're kind of forced to pick decoy and upgrade it ASAP if you want to stand a chance at finishing the match. Like I said, no variety because you're railroaded into picking the good upgrades, otherwise it's game over.
I'm sure I could think of more things to say about this, but I've already prattled on enough. Hopefully the Vampire Survivors devs will finally release it on PlayStation at some point because there doesn't seem to be a clone that's just as good on PS as of now.
