If a 30fps-only game wins GOTY in 2023, there's something deeply wrong with the industry. Games should be scored by performance, gameplay, story and graphics.
Hogwarts is a good bet. Multiplatform and still a top-seller every month.
Spider-Man 2 is (by far) the most polished game released this year - with some of the best gameplay, performance and graphics out there and a well-written story to back it all up. It stands out among all other releases.

Zelda isn’t winning, they will dock points for it being a sequel of a game that already won. Ragnarok was the best game last year but they gave it to Elden Ring only because God of War had already won in 2018. This year it’s 95% likely that Baldur's Gate 3 will win. Spider-Man 2 is the runner up.

I’ve narrowed down my next purchase to Armored Core and SF6. I can’t do Baldur’s Gate… I can’t help it… the combat looks too boring and each time I look at vids I’m turned away. I want to see the evolution of the choose your own adventure genre sure but I dunno man… yikes
I’ve been thoroughly addicted to advance wars, final fantasy tactics and xcom over the years so it’s not like I’m unfamiliar … just looks cheap
Mário Wonder, Zelda and Spider-Man 2 are due Meta.
The others I played or I’m playing (Baldur’s Gate 3 case… btw the combat is amazing maybe the best turn based combat I ever played… you can do basically anything your creativity allow it).

It's the complete opposite of shallow though. All the abilities interact with each other perfectly. AoE spells and bonus shove action to knock enemies into it after doing your normal actions. Polymorph enemies into animals, knock them unconscious with poisons and throw them off a cliff, use a arrow with knockback to knock enemies into lava. Or even the shapeshift into an animal as a druid, use giant form to make the animal really heavy, than jump down on people to immediately crush them to death. It's amazing what you can do, you have so much flexibility.
BG3 isnt as shoe in as many of you think. If youve played DoS2 than BG3 is just as iterative as zelda IMO

I guess the fight will be between BD3 and Zelda.
Your list have a good point too... they always put a indie game that has no chance to win.
And I don't believe Starfield has any chance to get in the list.
