Why the lack of attention to what Nintendo is up to?

While I was busy wondering what is going on with RE9 I realized that now that we have a date with Monster Hunter Wilds if it has anything to do with the Switch 2?

It maybe be more that Capcom wants it out before the end of the fiscal year (March 31st, 2025.) but February 28th, 2025 is very close to the 8 year Anniversary of the Switch (I believe it is also the 8 Year Anniversary of Horizon Zero Dawn.) and it is heavily rumored the Switch 2 is coming out early next year as well.

Since Capcom didn't take PlayStations market deal this time around for Monster Hunter and even revealed it at The Game Awards instead of a PlayStation show and it won't be a PlayStation exclusive in Japan like Mounter hunter World was. I wonder if there is a chance Monster Hunter Wilds will be a Switch 2 launch title?
There is a series S version coming out so downgrading it enough to get on switch might not be impossible but then again I also doubt Capcom would want to waste any resources on a switch 2 port pre release to the PS5/Xbox/ and PC ports.
They might want to maximize double dippers for a later Switch 2 release.

A switch 2 coming out on February 28th, 2025 would be a bit weird but Switch was March 3rd, 2017 and PS2 was March 4th, 2000 in Japan.
3DS was February 26th, 2011 in Japan. Maybe February 28th, 2025 is Switch 2's release date?

I've noticed there's an awful lot of threads talking about Microsoft, Xbox, and Xbox fans and the state of things for them. There's even a decent number of threads on games being ported to PC. But something I've found peculiar is that what Nintendo's doing doesn't really get a whole lot of attention here. Sure when there's major game announcements some of their stuff pops up, but generally yall are more interested in the goings on on the Xbox and PC side of things.

I know this forum is primarily made up of Sony and PlayStation fans, but that makes me all the more curious. Nintendo has historically been significantly more successful than Microsoft in the console market, and significantly more successful than Sony in the handheld market. With that in mind, why do yall give Xbox so much more attention? Is it the power disparity, where Nintendo consoles are usually significantly weaker, the fact that their marketing is generally more casual friendly or aims at younger audiences, or is it something else?

I'm not throwing shade, I just find it curious that Nintendo as a competitor isn't really considered in the purview of most Playstation fans here.
Because Nintendo is garbage. Nintendo is a lazy trash hole corporation. Its a corpse a husk that sells nostalgia to cladults and prays on prays. Their games are rehashed lazy trash and their hardware doesn't even try to keep pace with tech. Nintendo is the worse value in gaming and the most hostile to consumers despite doing the bare minimum they will still survive

saying this right after Echoes of Wisdom came out is wild
The hardware not keeping up with tech is a good thing, keeps things cheap. I don't wanna spend $700 on a video game console lol

I could def see this being the case. I've gotten the impression Capcom wants their Monster Hunter games on handhelds in particular.

For me it's because they don't make difficult high skill ceiling games anymore. The last game I can think of that Nintendo released that was up my alley was F-Zero GX. It was hard as fuck and they didn't care if you finished it or not.

This forum is for Playstation fanboys to cope. They know Nintendo = video games, so they focus their energy on xbox or pc.

Monster Hunter has always been more popular on handheld devices than on home consoles, for example in Japan it sells more for Nintendo's platform than for PS, so this is the reason why Capcom works for handheld devices first

PlayStation fanboys can't understand that Nintendo is far better than Sony because Sony is known for censoring games, eg Japanese ones and promoting woke games. This clearly proves how stupid PlayStation fanboys are.

I'm very interested in what Nintendo does next.

  • Will the Switch 2 use DLSS?
  • How will they price the Switch 2?
  • Where will it land on the power band?
    • Will Nintendo try to get more traditional software sales by releasing a more powerful unit?

If I'm Nintendo, the Switch 2 has to be AT LEAST as powerful as a Series S when docked. If it is less powerful than that, I think they're in for some trouble bridging markets. If it's around as powerful as a PS4 when undocked, I think it's also in for some trouble. I think they'll need to aim for PS4 Pro at least with DLSS.

For price the casual market will struggle to justify above 400 dollars, especially if games are cross gen for a period between Switch and Switch 2. They'll have to push the market via exclusives.

The best strategy would be to to sell

  • Switch 2 Lite - Portable unit, 720p able to push 1080p via upscaling - 400 USD
  • Switch 2 without dock portable unit, 1080p able to push 1440p via upscaling, can connect to a tv via HDMI - 500 USD
  • Switch 2 with dock, portable unit able to push 4K via upscaling from 1440p on a dock - 600 USD
    • Dock sold separately for 150

The more I think about it. Metroid Prime 4 is the wild card. There is little chance it releases before Monster Hunter Wilds at this point. I don't know if Nintendo wants to do a repeat of launching games exclusive to one platform after the next one launches like they did with 3DS and Switch. Those 3DS games that came out after the switch released sold pretty bad.
I imagine Metroid Prime 4 is either cross gen or the last big Switch game and if that is the case then maybe Switch 2 launched after the end of the current fiscal year (March 31st, 2025.)

I find it weird that people point out Nintendo doesn't have much influence on the industry right now when they probably have the most influence out of the big three console makers. Sony's Ghost of Tsushima does seem to have inspired some games and I feel little Last of Us influence on the RE Engine Resident Evil games but Sony and Microsoft really don't influence anything really in terms of video game releases.

Genshin Impact clearly looked like it was inspired by BOTW.
Astrobot looks like it took a lot of inspiration from Mario Galaxy
Sackboy's big Adventure feels a lot like Super Mario 3D Land/Super Mario 3D World
Palworld clearly has inspiration from Pokemon
Death Stranding and Horizon Forbidden West added a climbing mechanic similar to BOTW that Zero Dawn didn't have.

Sony has entirely raised the bar for AAA gaming, particularly Uncharted, God of War, and the Last of Us. Assassin's Creed fans have been begging for a Japanese setting since like 2012 and after Sony showed that it was possible, they turned to it almost immediately.

Games like Wukong are very much inspired by God of War, particularly God of War 2018 and it isn't the only one. God of War 2018 has had about as much impact on the industry as the Arkham games.

Spider-Man also launched a renewal in interest in big licensing endeavors with large budgets attached.

Going back further, Sony definitely inspired racing simulators with Gran Turismo.

SOCOM was one of the first games to really push what is modern voice chat in games.

Crash Bandicoot inspired Temple Run.

Jak and Daxter and Spider-Man have influenced the industry on load time techniques as have many Sony games.

I doubt I’ll buy it day one. Made that mistake with switch. Not worth it for one or two games.

Hopefully my kid won’t ever want one and will be happy with PlayStations. I have no intention of giving him a portable gaming device or allowing gaming outside the home. Must touch grass

I think it's because people sees a more direct competition between Sony and MS regarding the type of product, not because of their results in terms of sales or revenue. So there's more conflict there and causes more discussions.

And well, according to studies the majority of people uses multiple gaming devices, having normally a powerful device (mainly PC or PS) as primary device and sometimes a portable (mainly Nintendo) as secondary device, primarly for Nintendo games and portable versions of indies.

So some people isn't interested on Nintendo/portable games, and those who are in many cases don't see it as competition because also have a PC/PS/XB. See it as something complementary, not as a competition.

For me I've always dipped-in on past Nintendo consoles as I entered work and got every one apart from wii u eventually, but Nintendo's IP's have never done it for me. And when I have crossed the pond, their controllers and gimmicks are fucking ass.

GC ransomed-away RE for a time, and even playing a 2d platformer like DK the Wii was like "now waggle the controller like a dickhead." uggh! Fuck off with Fisher Price BS shoved into everything, have it silo'd off as a peripheral motion games, just supported well so it's not a kinect situation, but still make normal games with normal design methods in mind.

Nintendo is the only platform owner whose upcoming hardware & software I'm genuinely excited for (whereas with SIE it's more of an interest in the PS5 Pro/PS6 tech and some games, with Valve being similar to SIE in this respect, and with Microsoft it's an interest in some games and curiosity in future hardware).

Just putting that out there.

Yep, most exciting thing in gaming currently for me.

And it's not like I'm saying there aren't things exciting to me with PS or even Xbox. Death Stranding 2, Ghosts of Yotei, Perfect Dark...those are all games worth looking forward to. However, I know they're all going to be on PC in a year or two (or Day 1 in the case of Perfect Dark), and I don't mind waiting a while to play a game so if I have the choice....why not just wait for what seems are inevitable PC ports?

With Nintendo I know their games are only going to be on their platform, so eventually no matter how long I wait, I'm going to get a Nintendo system to play those games! They develop their games to wholly focus on their own hardware and synergize everything tightly, and since they can't rely on the power arms race, they have to innovate in other areas to stand out. That also tends to reflect in their game output.

Also I know someone's gonna get cheeky and say "but Nintendo already has games on mobile"; yeah, those are specific versions of their games made for mobile platforms. The Mario Kart on mobile is NOT the same Mario Kart on their own console. If you want the premier Mario Kart experience, you have to buy a Switch (or Switch 2). Plus the games are divergent enough to really be seen as two different entries. IMO that's what SIE should've done with their PC strategy if they felt they needed their games over there (plus consider mobile earlier on).

But that's not what they did and now they're having a bit of their own identity crisis because of it. Not as bad as Microsoft but then again...at least Microsoft can leverage PC due to all their vested interests in it through other divisions. SIE doesn't have those vested interests in the PC space so there's no benefit in that regard. And if they're going to continue their PC strategy or even push Day 1 for big releases going forward (including their own PS Store launcher on PC), then at least expand your console experience to be more on par with the features & benefits of a PC. At least get rid of the online paywall, make some productivity apps & features for PlayStation (they already have these on Windows), get your BC efforts fully up to par and give PS owners integrated forums/communities, PS social feeds and some transparency on player peak hours, CCUs etc. per game.

At least try doing that much, SIE :/

The conversation around Nintendo will pick up once they reveal the Switch 2 which is what im waiting for. I just hope that it's backwards compatible and allows the Switch 1 games to be upgraded with 60FPS, better visuals, etc. and I will be very happy.
