Microsoft flashing cash to third party companies aswell as those third party companies wanting to expand, is something Sony won't be able to do anything about.

People need to accept this reality. Sony continue to make exclusivity deals, but won't do it for every single game by sega or square enix, as that's makes no financial sense.
Well hopefully it ends as Xbox leaves the console market

That's the other thing, it hasn't even helped Xbox. So no idea why people are making a big deal out of that.

There are still Japanese games that skip Xbox, and i bet alot of it has nothing to do with Sony either, just they don't see Xbox as viable.

There are so many other things sony are doing wrong that is damaging their brand, like single players games going to pc that the leadership deserve to be called out for.

In the case of MS, they also require -or at least did some years ago- that quality parity to all games released on Xbox after timed console exclusivity elsewhere, in addition to ask them for some extra stuff (maybe some bundled dlc) that makes it different/"better" than the original release.

Yep, they did. Still remembering the quote from ID@Xbox Chris Carla :

Microsoft does ask that developers "add something to the game that makes it fresh for Xbox players" if the Xbox version is coming out significantly later, Charla added. One example would be the Battletoads content in Shovel Knight.

If game comes later to your platform, isn't that "fresh" because it appears on your platform after some time??

Why limit ourselves? We can, and do, call them out on several things 😎

But publisher's like se and sega not releasing on Xbox had nothing to do with Sony being proactive. They just didn't see it viable releasing on Xbox, until Phil dropped bags of cash on his port begging tours aswell as them wanting to expand.

You brought up MLB which again not Sonys fault, MLB clearly forced their hands otherwise they would lose the license if they don't play ball.
And Sony should have called the MLB"s bluff because who else gonna make the game? But they didn't. Didn't have the foresight to even secure their backend to make sure the MLB can't cut deals behind their backs. A bunch of amateurs who got complacent.

Indeed.
But they really shouldnt lose Persona 6. Just like FF7Rebirth and ROR is big for PS.
So would Persona 6 and a new Miyazaki Exclusive.
The more the better for PS

Hell, they even didn't have enough foresight to ensure their own IP, Death Stranding, couldn't release on PC GamePAss. Incredible blunder and someone should have been fired for it.

They must have already made a contract before MS started poaching games for gamepass.
But now they should secure a deal saying fuck you to MLB if they want to release it on gamepass. Sony is developing it, there games shouldnt go to gamepass

Exactly…it would’ve taken them YEARS to find another developer and to be able to release a game. That’d be years of lost revenue, much needed revenue, for the MLB…

It going to Xbox isn’t even that bad, but the fact that it’s GamePass day 1 every year for 3 years straight now is truly despicable…

EA will jump with glee at the thought of taking MLB from sony.

What's even worse is san diego studios will be full of devs who have worked on MLB for years and only that, EA will target those devs bleed the studio.

Financialy MLB won't be worried about going through the trouble finding a new dev.

Worst part is the franchise hasn't grown much since going multi-plat, so what was even the point. In the meantime time San Diego could have still made a Baseball game just without the license temporarily. Let MLB sweat and come crawling back but you get the upper hand

Look what happened with FIFA.

Yeah that's exactly what FIFA probably thought too.

Yes they would be worried, the MLB has been on a steep decline, they need the money a lot more than Sony does. Even if they went to EA or Take2 and poached all the devs, the game uses a proprietary engine that Sony owns. So they’d have to start completely from scratch.

Like with Square and Sega, Sony had literally all the leverage and still lost

Not only that, because of Sonys incompetence, the game is permanently held back by the Series S and Switch now. Fans of the game have been wanting an upgraded engine for a while, and now that’s never going to come…

Nope, it's just them ensuring that if they some game late at least has some extra to justify it. Or that "isn't a game ported late, it's a different title released in both places at the same time".

Typical case for an indie game: you release it with a timed console exclusivity in PS or Switch. Then after some time, maybe a year later, you release a DLC for it, and a "complete edition", which is the game and dlc bundled".

That complete edition gets released on PS, Switch and Xbox at the same time. The PS and Xbox versions look pretty much the same, have the same features and content. In Switch (and potentially Series S) has lower resolution or framerate due to its tech limits. MS is fine with this.

MS doesn't (or didn't) allow to release a game with exactly the same content and features (or less) it had when released months or year before in rival consoles. Or getting considerably worse resolution, fps, lighting, textures, shadows, etc it had in PS5 (they are ok with minor differences).

Sony didn't say MLB is declining, they instead said that it became more successful than before when it switched to GaaS and multiplatform.

MLB, like FIFA, NFL or NBA sell very well because they have the licenses of the players and teams of these top leagues. We saw many other games of these sports, which in some cases were better, but didn't sell that good because of the lack of licenses.

MLB sells well, so Sony wanted to keep it. But MLB mandated to make it multiplatform to renew its license. So Sony had to options: to lose the game or to allow to make it multi, with MLB publishing it elsewhere.

My personal opinion is that only USA cares about that game, so if I was Sony I'd stop making MLB games, would put San Diego to work in non-baseball (or even sports) games with global appeal.

I'd talk with MLB and Take 2 to give Take 2 the MLB license in exchange to some deal maybe related to some Rockstar games (stuff like exclusivity for marketing, bundles, demos and game subs). I think if someone else should get the IP, for Sony is Take 2 is a better option because EA already is the leader in sports and for Sony interests is better to have more competition between EA and Take 2 than to giving EA maybe too much power.

Hell, they even didn't have enough foresight to ensure their own IP, Death Stranding, couldn't release on PC GamePAss. Incredible blunder and someone should have been fired for it.
505, the publisher of the PC version, decides where and how they publish it.

Death Standing (PS) and Horizon PC port (first release of the recent Sony AAA PC ports) were released on 2019, if they published it on PC with other people was because they decided to port DS to PC way before.

Pretty likely when Sony and 505 signed the deal Gamepass for PC didn't exist, so was difficult to saw it coming and block it.

Unless they signed a deal with 505 for the whole IP, pretty likely Death Stranding 2 will be published by Sony itself on PC, so no more new Death stranding stuff on GP.

Sega can do whatever they want regardless of Sony. I think its stupid to have your games on GP and for msrp on PSN at the same time, but its not my company and i lose nothing.

I mean I'm sure there were some deals in place, we know that for a fact with persona 5 Sony got exclusivity and ff7 remake.

But alot of people are blaming Sony for alot more then just one game going to Xbox. Any game SE or sega game released on Xbox is blamed on Sony.

I have to wonder what people want Sony to do here? They want Sony to spend money to prevent every game going to Xbox? just sounds ridiculous.

IMO I just think Sony needs new exclusives on their console to make up for what games go multiplat. Which they already have in the case of Persona to some extent, with Grandblue Fantasy Re:link. Devil May Cry? Stellar Blade. MGS? Physint.

It's more about not having any gaps in that regard when it comes to exclusive offerings on the console, but it's always preferable if those are 1P games or IP owned by Sony themselves. Generally works out better for them, the devs, and gamers.

Sega can do whatever they want regardless of Sony. I think its stupid to have your games on GP and for msrp on PSN at the same time, but its not my company and i lose nothing.

It is SEGA's choice, but if any of the Super Game projects do the same thing, I'm just gonna play them in the service. The way I look at it, anyone buying the games on PS/Nintendo consoles when they're also Day 1 in Game Pass, are just subsidizing the subscription model for Microsoft, and helping to keep whatever costs they pay to SEGA for those deals lower.

A large part of why those 3P Day 1 Game Pass deals work is because they prey on non-Xbox customers offsetting things through B2P purchases on PlayStation and Nintendo systems.

So what should Sony do to prevent this?
Buy SEGA and ATLUS, open the region locks and backwards compatability vaults. Once they own them, nullify the old management's contract agreement with MS. MS did it to Sony, such as turning Starfield, Indian Jones and more into PC/XB exclusives away from PS, so that kind of thing can be done by Sony Too, I assume?

Just an FYI, when MLB went multi-plat, Sony secured multiple multi-year deals with MLB for things outside of gaming. Hawk-eye innovations, Sony camera tech used in all MLB stadiums, deeper Statcast integration with more accurate data and metrics. Also Hawkeye is the company that manages the S.M.A.R.T. Video replay which has been in use since 2014 season.

While MLB the show is always discussed as “MLB pressuring Sony, Sony bent the knee blah blah blah”, Sony provides CORE features to MLB that are vital to their business, they didn’t get shafted on the game going multi-plat deal, IMO, they positioned themselves to be even more vital to MLB outside of video games.
