Also, based on the schedule, it looks like IF the EU cave to behavioral remedies we'll be looking at almost 2 weeks of ridiculous takes and premature declarations of victory before the CMA give their report.

Let’s be honest, the fanboys will STILL be spinning tales of how MS is totally going to emerge victorious and subjugate that evil Sony and rain destruction upon the CMA even after the CMA tells them the deal is dead!

They're already talking about how to appeal the CMA's decision via something called the CTA if they don't rule favorably. Which, they can go for it if they want to. IMO if it comes to that, I would rather they waste time appealing a decision than spend that time trying to gobble up another publisher.

Lol seems like reality is dawning on them the theatrics won't help them with the CMA.

CAT are very unlikely to overturn a CMA decision, it's not impossible but not likely.

Most of them are too ignorant to know that the UK process is basically ironclad. The CMA reviews all appeals of their rulings themselves, and they can only be overturned if there’s proof of improper actions on the behalf of the CMA in the process.

I dunno, some also still think the CMA are likely to be swayed with only behavioral remedies.
Which only proves they have no reading comprehension.

The opening of the preliminary findings statement is basically “We don’t like behavioural remedies that we’d have to police, and Ms is too big for any fines to hurt them, and they have a history of breaking their commitments to any kind of behavioural remedy, so we won’t be looking to go that route on this one!”

I mean, even Disney had to divest part of Fox when they bought them in a massive deal that was roughly the same size as this one. What makes them think that MS shouldn't be required to make any real sacrifices for this deal?

I'd like to know Jim Ryan's strategy for if/when this deal falls through. He needs to be creating some type of first party COD equivalent in case Acti wants to pull any shenanigans out of hurt feelings like going with Xbox for marketing. They need to start poaching Activision's marketing execs and the people behind COD's marketing machine for Deviation's next game. And they need to put Deviation on a yearly release schedule. Bungie being a space fantasy doesn't have the same broad appeal that COD does.

They won't. Bobby and ChuChu will be on their merry way out of Activision and the new executives will continue negotiating with Sony.

They don't need a yearly release schedule. They need an online game like Warzone that can be constantly updated for half a decade or more.

True.

In the event that they stay independent, I think the money they would gain by continuing to release for Playstation would overrule any hard feelings over this ordeal. As for marketing deals, Playstation loses that if the deal goes through so it doesn't matter either way.

I do belive the lesson that Sony need to learn from all this is that they need to beef up and diversify their first party, since third party devs/games aren't guaranteed to always be available given the big companies going around on buying sprees.

True.
True about not needing the yearly release schedule if the game is online with seasons. And to your first point, if Ryan is an executive worth his salt he'd still have a plan for any adverse events with Acti in the future. You can't always count on things going your way in business, even if bobby and lulu get the boot.

The CoD debate hinges on CoD still been popular in a few years time. There's a good probability that it still will be popular, it has survived a few competitors since MW2 and market changes, but something could come along and knock it for six.

Are Sony playing it safe by keeping their options open by not getting tied into a contract for a game which may have dropped in popularity?

If the deal falls through, Sony could fund a CoD VR version and play both sides of the aisle.

Isn't sony rumoured to be working on a couple of FPS at least? That shows they are trying to expand.

COD proper is dead. who the hell is still playing? I don't know a single person, and my group of friends were the type to go to midnight launches during the COD golden era on xbox 360.

Warzone is holding on, but even that is dipping in popularity. WZ2 sucks from what i hear and everyone is leaving.

I will never buy another one of these games. I got Cold War at launch with the PS5 and it was a $90 coaster. 4 hour trash campaign, no one played MP, all it was was a download pack for warzone weapons, essentially.

Awful games from the PS4 gen and on. Woke as hell nowadays too. The miltary power fantasy is gone, it's trash.

Warzone’s newest season is doing pretty good at the moment.

Whether arena cod and the retail game is bleeding is up for debate.

I'm curious as to how many regulatory decisions are made based on whether an asset being purchased could potentially depreciate in value over time or if they decide based on current value.

For a “dead” game, they sure still sell a shitload of copies every year!
