I think PlayStation has a deeper understanding of the inner workings of Bungie, by an order of magnitude, more than you realize.

Colin treats Bungie as some unknowable black box because the reality hurts his narrative. He's a doofus.
you can be absolutely sure that executives at PlayStation deeply regret spending 3.6B dollars on Bungie, that's the only understanding you need to know

Sony has bigger problems, its called media and anti ps fanboys. They will dictate goods and bads with there numbers and collective opinions. These guys live on there desktops (and play on it claiming its better… lol)
Astrobot will get a pass and we’ll be back to it afterwards.

Sales wise everything will be fine for now. But PS studios and mindshare is gonna make a shift in the next 5 years. You have IGN making BS articles about how Sony has secrete exclusives without any repercussion.

These are Sony’s biggest problem, they are in bed with Valve, but they and their media fanboys+ex-Xbots are all against Playstation

When did I say or even imply that? Feels like you're creating a straw man for some reason
"a GAAs game failling make me reconsider the entire GAAS dominance over the last 10 years", it's not just a GAAs game failling, there are multiple GAAs games failling right now, Rocksteady is facing layoffs now because of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, the studio lost dozens of milions of dollars on that game, so no, it's not just A GAAs game, the entire industry is now turning off on GAAs and rare are the examples of actually successful GAAs games, Helldivers 2 was the first one in years, most people are playing older GAAs titles, not newer ones, and when you enter this space, you're actually fighting with these older GAAs games that people are playing.

Agree. Thoe certainly Sony can make safer bets. Studios like Arc system work (Guilty Gear), 1047 games (Splitgate), Level5 (ni no kuni) the studios behind V riding (make a top down Diablo like GOW live service that releases across PS, PC & Mobile it can even have a PS exclusive singleplayer also the studio that’s making Supervive which is a top down moba battle royal imo looks nice it can be release on PC, PS & Mobile which rn is only releasing on PC

Sony can still make these purchases & should because MS isn’t going to stop, I would be surprised if MS buys a Japanese publisher in the next 5 years (really looking at Sega) Sony doesn’t have the time to spend 5-10 years waiting if a studio will release there games & nurture like in the previous gen’s. Sony just needs someone who understands multiplayer understands what studio has a great understanding of multiplayer game such as Riot, Arc System etc. Sony should consolidate & if I where them I would look to buy studio + ip because Sony doesnt have the ip to really expand to live service or mobile buying WB & having the entire DC line up would not only make for great singleplayer but live service imagine if Sony bought WB & made a Marvel rival type game but w DC heroes that would be a easy success or a genshin impact type gacha game using DC heroes in a anime style (insomniac marvel game should’ve been a genshin impact type game not a high budget, hyper realistic graphics, large scope that would be hard to maintain) imagine a Supercell Brawl Stars type game using PS ip + WB ip + 3rd party essentially a top down brawl type similar to smash or revive PS allstars & use PS, WB & 3rd party ip.

If I was Sony I would look to buy Netherrealm & making a free to play Mortal Kombat game similar to riot that releases across PS, PC & Mobile & inject characters like Kratos (GOW), Jin (Ghost Sushi), Cole (inFAMOUS), Nathan Drak (Uncharted). Sony should’ve made these acquisitions a long time ago now there trying to catch up.

Or just pull the wallet instead of buying Paramount you buy WB or Capcom maybe make a investment in Square Enix & buy the Dragon Quest ip which Square doesn’t owns maybe buy Kadokawa & lockdown Fromsoft games to only PS. It kinda doesn’t matter because ultimately PS doesn’t have exclusive because they port games to PC but this is what I would do & I would be damn effective. I wana see Xbox dead & the same for Steam & Nintendo & I would scale so PS studios is releasing a minimum of 5 games from PS studios/Sony PS own ip. PS releasing 1 singleplayer game per year is abysmal & the reason PS is 3rd place.

Agreed.
Level 5, Arc, Fromsoft etc would of fit in great

Knew it was gonna happen lol. Shame cause the gameplay is better than most games Ive tried recently.
At this stage it's kinda redundant. I'm definitely done defending the game as it's already provided me with a lot of fun. And I'm gonna def put a couple hours into it soon, so hey 😎

there's absolutely nothing wrong with anti ps fanboys, they're actually very right, current playstation fanboys simp for anything sony does, if sony releases "poop, the game" and its a game consisting on a jumping piece of poop that you only press X to see it jump and see a platinum trophy, you would have playstation fanboys defending it, not even Sony cares about y'all anymore, they're more insterested in PC players than anything, the casual audience rules playstation. but this audience is not loyal.

You believe that because your priest leaders feed you what you want to hear.

In reality, a 3.6b dollar acquisition is a LONG TERM investment. Your desire to label it a failure before Bungie releases a single game, let alone a few, shows all that your gaming biases infect your ability to think logically.

If Marathon, Gummy Bears, or their next few games become billion dollar franchises, the purchase will be considered a success.

The time to judge the Bungie purchase is in 2031, not today.

truth is: if the game was free to play and didn't require a PS Plus subscription it could actually get the casual audience attention despite of the scores and reputation in the hardcore community, but i guess getting $40 from 100k people is more important for Sony

long term investment that in 2 years is falling apart, if Marathon flops, Bungie will be reduced to 200/300 employees max and will only work on Destiny for eternity

This is a bullshit argument. So many studios out there who's “first game” did well.

The 1st cod was from a new studio.
Fortnight devs…….new studio.Fall guys Rocket league, I can go on.

People want Sony to sit on their ass and not do anything new. Mind you Sony already made that mistake with music 20 years ago and almost went under. Today its deemed better to do new things and fail at it than failing while sitting in place stagnant.

Imo, sony’s biggest problem is fucking up pricing, they want to charge premium for all they shit and all that does is kill whatever they selling.

yep, and they are facing the consequences now, 25k estimated copies sold across PSN and Steam, 62 metacritic score and 8 years of development thrown in the trash can, but you won't come here and drop examples without looking at full context, singleplayer studios don't equate to live service ones and no matter how much you try to twist it, the reality remains one: Guerrilla became a tentpole studio, Firewalk delivered the biggest commercial and critical failure of PlayStation's Studios history.
wdCd7ir.png

No1 touched Concord cause the fans were put off the Woke stuff. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing will change that. No1 is gonna be honest and try a game they hate the idea of. So when you dont have enough people playing it, you dont have enough people supporting it. This was Sony’s fault for not reading the room and complying to there overlords who demand DEI lol. They should of said no.

And the scores are based on the price and lack of content not on the quality of gameplay. The gunplay is top quality despite some idiot here thinking its easy to make FPS games lol - https://www.metacritic.com/game/killzone-shadow-fall/ - Realistically Sony’s worst game Ive played in years. Also long time studio to Sony.

These guys worked with Sony for awhile and made no difference. Also harshly criticised to be fair, I enojyed it despite not enough gameplay.

FromSoft should of been bought after Demons Souls or Dark Souls. Sony is too slow to move. They had enough money to buy someone like Remedy.

Im sure everyone who hates “gaas” and the anti ps fan boys are all over this and waiting for failure lol.

Sony has always and will always make “Gaas” games, they just didnt during the PS4 eta because of the 4 years of success they had with SP games during 2009/2013 lol

I don't think Sony or FireWalk anticipated the level of vitriol this game has gotten. I don't think they were expecting another Helldivers 2 based on how low profiile everything about the game was down to the reveal and quick release shortly after, marketing was just pretty much confined to social media channels. I do think they were expecting maybe at least a million sales in total low ball.

Do I think this game needed to be F2P? No and I'm happy Sony isn't chasing F2P solely as their studios simply aren't capable of sustaining that model, whether you guys wanna see that.

I've always appreciated their more consumer friendly approach to the multiplayer landscape and I don't wanna see them abandon that.

It would help, but only if people werent so turned off by the pronouns and character design, so that would need a change, and rightfully.

People are all in on this woke/anti woke war, right or wrong. Its not a small thing clearly. They aint gonna try a game that fits what they are fighting against.

I mean look at people with Wu Kong, 5 years ago most right leaning people hated China because China isnt exactly a politically free place.

The narrative changes because they are now anti woke…They are now heroes for these people and Wu Kong got way more attention than it deserved because of this.

Both sides are so invested they dont even know whats what, right leaning people cheering for communist china games….while the other side, the socialist LGBTQ crowd supporting militant islam lol

Im personally anti DEI, but Im looking at it overall its just total lolz for both sides so invested and emotional

that people are playing.
The reason why I said that is because you brought up Concord as proof that GAAS is failing. It was a silly comment that needed to be corrected and I did so with aplomb.

GAAS is a higher risk, higher reward endeavor. I've always maintained this position. That means you're going to see more failure in the GAAS space.

However, this video will enlighten your view somewhat. I hope it helps you understand where gaming is headed...

I want you to pay attention to the rise in popularity of GAAS over that 10 year stretch.

i disagree, people want Sony to make right decisions that benefit PLAYSTATION as a platform, and there is absolutely nothing wrong about wanting the platform to do better and the company to make wiser decisions, they learned the hard way, they learned by losing billions that they need to start listetning to the core community more, people who buy their games at full price on pre-order, people who purchase their products and are there for the brand, not people that are outside of it, that never cared about it, an example is The Last Of Us Factions, we never asked for an ambitious multiplayer GAAs title that would take hundreds of million dollars to make and hundreds of developers to develop, all we wanted was a multiplayer mode for The Last Of Us Part II with updated graphics, guns, factions (seraphites, W.L.F), they chose to not listen to the community and went the GAAs direction. result: hundreds of millions of dollars lost.

I mean hey, Sony bought Guerilla Games on the promise of good tech and now Guerrilla Games is easily the most important Sony studio when it comes to the progression of PlayStation Studios and it's partners tech-wize.

Imagine if they never had faith in Naughty Dog after seeing "Way of The Warrior"

It's clear Sony saw the talent at a studio like FireWalk and bought them. They made a very good game but just read the market wrong with their aesthetic and social approach unfortunately.

That's one thing I appreciate about PlayStation, their commitment to giving new studios a chance and expanding the industry
