You tackle the problem on both ends and you can try and replicate the performance of GeforceNow, which if Sony is able to do they have a much larger game library than Nvidia and new games they make themselves.
How would Sony get a "much larger game library" than a platform that can run any PC game known in history?
You think Sony is going to put the PS5 hardware running windows games now?


It will put them in pole position in cloud streaming. Which is my point.

What cost savings in the cloud?
The cost savings were already implemented in the PS5 Pro. Sony is achieving 2x performance with a GPU that is only 45% faster in rasterization, due to using a lower base resolution.

But somehow you think it's a magical thing for servers because... you must make up shit to prop Sony up even though you have zero idea what you're talking about.

The same cost savings can be applied in the future in creating cheaper PS5 server blades and cheaper PS6 server blades.

Let me put it this way. Sony could put out a Series S type PS5 that has similar hardware, but a smaller GPU, but with the enhancements of the new Pro SOC including machine learning in order to deliver 1080p or 1440p.

The same is true of the server blades.


No facts other than an AMD patent filed in 2019, a full year before the PS5 even released, describing an AI-based upscaler to run on an AMD GPU?

And Sony beat AMD at... using a GPU developed by AMD with an AI upscaler that runs using AMD's wave matrix multiply accumulate instructions? Like the one AMD has been developing for 5 years?

LOL Sony isn't going to mandate yet another target spec that runs PS5 quality and framerates. They have the PS5 SoC for that.

And "has machine learning on the SoC"? You have no idea what that means, do you? There have been games running Machine Learning inference in the original PS5 for years. Any ALU in any SoC can run machine learning inference, tensor operations are just matrix multiplications.

We'll see. If Sony puts out a PS Handheld using PSSR, I think a lot of people are going to support it.

PiSSeR needs per-game developer intervention, so unless you think Sony is going to mandate all PS5 games released so far to implement PiSSeR (which wouldn't be beneath any of your other equally stupid ideas), it's not going to happen.

LOL no, console makers don't develop hardware blocks for AMD. And it wouldn't make any sense for Sony to develop PiSSeR all by themselves when they need to comply with AMD's CPU and GPU instruction sets.
Mark Cerny isn't even an employee of Sony, he's a contractor paid to visit dev houses and raise a list of requirements and suggestions. Mark Cerny "and his team" (whomever you think those are) doesn't develop AI-based upscalers.

The reality is PSSR is huge for Cloud.

The goal here will be to utilize significantly lower native resolutions combined with advanced compression, while still outputting high resolution games with minimal input latency.

Cloud is absolutely coming and will increasingly be important to sony.
Makes sense I guess... But that's not why I do at least kind of like PSSR. But yeah as long as there's games that can be played without the whole streaming/cloud thing so am I good! (y)

Sony have made the right choice once again, instead of doing something shitty like Microsoft did with the Xbox Seris X/S from the outset, they've opted for a more sensible choice.

First the PS5, then in the mid-generation with the PS5 Pro, but both are still better balanced in terms of scaling than the Xbox Series.
The PS5 and Pro both have 16GB of memory and virtually with the same CPU, the only difference being in the GPU, and even then it's not as big as between the Xbox Series.

That's what Xbox should have done, they should have equipped the Series S with 16GB of ram instead of 10 (with only 8 usable) and a GPU a bit more powerful than that to better handle RT and 1440p so that it wouldn't be a burden for developers.

Personally, I understand developers who hate working on the Xbox Series S.
Yes exactly and that was the right thing to do for sure.

And yes that would have made me sense... But it is what it is. I hope MS does that with the upcoming Xbox console though... Which I hope is only one instead of two and then maybe a handheld Xbox console that's good as well. But if it's not good then oh well there's always what Nintendo offers and maybe that handheld Sony is working on! (y)

PSSR is the most important thing to Sony at the moment as it allows them to keep pushing the boundaries on graphical fidelity which has made them best in class in the industry.

It allows them to push this tech in the cloud, on consoles, and also very importantly on handheld.

Nintendo has to get AI upscaling right on Switch 2 otherwise they're going to be in a big competition with Sony, especially if Sony ends up moving to ARM for their handheld though that's going to require a feat in engineering as well.

Agreed... It was indeed a smart move and I'm glad that Sony is trying new things out in the console space, on handhelds and wherever they feel like it'll be useful.

And in regards to Nintendo... Well I hope that they're using DLSS or something as that would benefit them and make the NS 2 much better than if it didn't use any kind of AI/Up-scaling technology. So I hope we get to know if that's the case or not before the NS 2 launches some time in Q1-Q3 2025.

This may seem random but.. I don't know, choosing to leave the CPU untouched just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It reinforces the worst aspects of modern gaming. Games are getting shinier but less complex when it comes to things like AI, dynamism and persistence etc. from world building to story.

This is more a problem with you and your understanding of things.

This is not a PS6, it's still going to run PS5 games. You could not get significant gains on CPU without drastically increasing the price of the PS5 Pro and you would not get more complex games, at best you would get a higher frame rate on games that were CPU limited.

They've accomplished getting more gains on those games with a 10% CPU boost to ensure steadier framerates.

So it's not random, it's just ignorant.

Lets not forget the biggest reason for not changing CPU is for compatibility with the PS5 game library.

Changing CPU can potentially open a can of worms for Sony. Better safe than sorry.

Returnal not being on the list is a real surprise. I don't think the studio size is a good excuse here.

Surprised to see EA update their sports game but not T2 with NBA 2K25 a game literally bundled with the PS5 right now, though maybe that's the reason why it ISN'T get an update.

I think Helldivers is the only Sony game released this year that isn't get a patch, well that and MLB The Show, but I guess we're closer to MLB The Show 25 than we are MLB The Show 24 and the world series will be over before the PS5 Pro launches. Nothing from Destiny 2 yet either.

The biggest titles that are surprising are Wukong, Elden Ring, Warhammer, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, Genshin Impact, and the lack of fighting game updates outside of MK1.

I agree all of these games do need to be PS5 Pro Enhanced as well... And I hope it won't take too long though!

Unfortunately there are probably diminishing returns for some of these games. Especially when more games are PS5 Pro Enhanced.

If all games are PS5 Pro enhanced, there is no real competitive advantage to being so as well, not unless the PS5 Pro turned into a much larger percentage of the userbase.

I think Sony kind of delivered on the Pro a bit too late in the generation. This needed to come out last year.

Rumor is the PS5 Pro design has been locked down for more than a year. I'm guessing ultimately PSSR wasn't ready last year and neither was FSR4.

Not the biggest deal, we're probably talking about a difference of 3-5 million units lifetime, but in an ideal world, you would have had this ready with Spider-Man 2.
