The worst thing going forward is all the clout chasing takes on the "new" direction by Sony and who should lead it.

Disqualified:

Hermen Hulst - PC push started with Guerrilla Games. Not surprisingly the ones that were always one project away from the ropes due to the reception of their mid games... hence the survival incentive to open a new valve of money to survive (from PC). The mid kings. How he climbed up the ladder compared to others at Sony is suspect.
Shawn Layden - "PC was my idea" "Go where the customer is" " anything > $0 is positive" - good exec for a third party publisher, not a platform holder where success rests on the health of the hardware, and how it can fend off competing hardware.
Eric Lempel - weak marketing lead.

Sony should at least bring Kevin Butler back as the face/brand image for PlayStation. Now with social media, he can do more ridiculous stuff than ever, as the (fake) CEO of PlayStation.

Show Phil Spencer what an actual sense of humor and charm is like ;)

Check my latest post and let us know what else you'd do please

Cancel PC ports. Announce there will be no further PC ports ever.

Nixxes port old PS3, PS2, PSP, PSVita and PSX games to PS5 native.

Analyse where in development all games are and determine the best time to have an epic showcase.

Provide a roadmap to fans on when they will see a major reveal and what is happening with delays (who is effected)

Bolster 1st party with new studios..... key targets CDPR, From, Square, Larian and a few others.

See if Embracer would sell Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver.... for ND and Santa Monica respectively.

Cancel MLB contract, try to negotiate player likeness contracts for all important players on an individual basis. Pull game from Xbox.

Cut down GAAS investment and invest 80% or more in single player AAA games.

Push for a live event PSX for PS fans.

2 year minimum till exclusives go to PSplus extra, normally longer. Exclusives get discount if you are on PSPlus extra or Premium level.

More fan engagement online and just fun stuff for fans to feel like they are more than money bags for Sony.

PS Underground type era???????? Interesting!

I genuinely don't really know what he means by that. Is he referring to the PS1-style stuff? Because I would love to see that variety come back 1P-wise, even picking up where 3P have sort of just left off, but married with the polish and scale of the AAA games Sony's come to define their brand through the past 10 years.

There should definitely be room for 1P AAA and AA efforts and a scaled-down, more sensible move into GaaS with maybe a couple AAA and couple AA efforts in that area.

I agree with most stuff except CDPR/Larian lol. You want PlayStation to move AWAY from PC, not closer!

Nah Playstation could use some of the writing chops from those studios. Right now the writing is almost all cinematic/hollywood style, could use more deep RPG/novel style writing in the portfolio

Hiphopgamer is cool in that he's one of the few gaming influencers who isn't an aggressive MS shill/fanboy, but he's no insider.

Where it’s at.
in the late 90's early 00's it was a members only club that got to trial niche and new games on demo discs, lots of cool games also released during this time frame, lots of variety tons of JP and asian titles etc. it was the best time to be a ps gamer IMO. THINK WWF attitude era.
The attitude era was the absolute shittiest time in wrestling history.

WWF threw out everything real wrestling fans wanted in pursuit of a mass audience whose interest was only a passing fad.

Kinda like Xbox, honestly, and the fanbases for WWE and Xbox are equally toxic and illogical!

I actually targeted them because they are important PC developers and taking them away hurts PC and makes more of them need a PlayStation. Including From too.

Buying Legacy of Kain and other such IPs would be great.

New Management Structure of Sony Interactive Entertainment

Jim Ryan to retire next spring and Hiroki Totoki to assume Interim CEO role while keeping his current role at Sony Group

September 27, 2023
SIE Communications
(September 28, 2023, Tokyo / September 27, San Mateo, CA) – Sony Group Corporation and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced that SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan has made the decision to retire in March 2024 after almost thirty years with the PlayStation business. To support Mr. Ryan in his transition, Sony Group Corporation President, COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki will assume the role of Chairman of SIE effective October 2023. Effective April 1, 2024, Mr. Totoki will be appointed Interim CEO of SIE while he continues his current role at Sony Group Corporation. Mr. Totoki will work closely with Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and the management team of SIE to help define the next chapter of PlayStation’s future, including the succession of the SIE CEO role.

Jim Ryan joined Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Europe-based legal entity, Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE) — which was then Sony Computer Entertainment Europe — in 1994. Since then, he has held a number of senior positions at the company including President of SIEE, Head of Global Sales and Marketing at SIE and Deputy President of SIE since January 2018, before being appointed SIE President and CEO.
Comment from Kenichiro Yoshida

“Jim Ryan has been an inspirational leader throughout his entire period with us, but never more so than in overseeing the launch of PlayStation 5 in the midst of the global COVID pandemic. That extraordinary achievement made by the entire SIE team has been steadily built on and PlayStation 5 is on track to become SIE’s most successful console yet. I’m immensely grateful to Jim for all his achievements. Respecting Jim’s decision to finish his long career at Sony leaves me with an important decision regarding his succession given the significance of the Game & Network Services business. We have discussed intensively and have determined the new management structure. We aim to achieve Sony Group’s further evolution and growth through bringing even greater success to the Game & Network Services Business.”

Comment from Jim Ryan
“After 30 years, I have made the decision to retire from SIE in March 2024. I’ve relished the opportunity to have a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and incredible partners. But I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America. I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE. I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly sensitive and supportive leader.”

Comment from Hiroki Totoki
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Jim Ryan for his outstanding achievements and contributions over his 30-year career at Sony, including the great success of launching the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation business managed by SIE is an essential part of Sony Group’s entire business portfolio. I will work with Jim and the senior management team closely to ensure our continued success and further growth. I am also looking forward to creating the exciting future of PlayStation and the game industry together with everyone at SIE and its business partners.”
