Too bad that they don't compete with Sony anymore.

Waiting a decade to "beat" a console that is supply constrained, on a limited time frame, while being beat by the Switch anyway.

If that is how it's going on their strongest market...

I wonder how many of the increased numbers is $1–$5 subs

If some users on this forum are to be believed, each and every one of them.

But if you take an extra second to think about it, those $1 increases won't nearly be enough to off-set single digit percentage drops in their quarterly earnings, which is millions and millions in dollar amount.

Make of that what you will.

this is really getting scary now. it's almost as if the lack of first party releases is intentional, and done solely to drive gamepass numbers.

this means that MS has crunched the numbers internally, and sees that not making games actually increases subscriptions, because desperate for anything to play, starved consumers will opt for a gamepass sub in place of buying a full-priced, single release.

The less games Microsoft makes, the more gamepass subs go up. Aaron Greenburg's comments make sense now, too. (The starving customer one).

Phil Spencer, you sly dog. You've managed to find a way for Xbox's lack of games to work in your benefit. I see now why you keep getting promoted.

Im not sure because Im not so knowledabe when it comes to this stuff.

All i know is they they spent 80+ billion in the last 2 years just on Bethesda and Activision. Im pretty sure Xbox hasn’t made profit close to that the whole time they have Been around since OG Xbox

The difference between that and like the cost of operation is those things they bought can be sold.

If I spent $1000 on a block of gold, I have not just "cost" myself $1000.. I transferred my cash assets into something else, that can gain and lose value over time. Not exactly the same situation, but an analogy.

The fact that they were not willing to make public the number of subscribers says it all. They are about to change their metric of success again, I wonder what is next are they going to revert back to MAUs?

Im genuinely interested about the numbers.

Im not saying its everyone or anything, but Ive seen an increase in advertisement for it in the last 2 months. Whereas before Id see it in email or 1 or 2 places. And my brother picked it up too for a dollar recently on PC. He done the same before.

Im guessing maybe 20-10% will be $1-$5 subs.

Obviously they were expecting a much bigger push with Starfield coming in November and have needed to advertise and make discounts to keep interest for a certain percentage of fans.
No one who is selling super super well will put on discounts…. (Damn you Nintendo and your lack of 1st party discounts, Im not paying £50 for Pikmin 3 lol)

I think Gamepass will do ok numbers in the future, but I think sub services in general are always up and down. And they won‘t be the total future.
As far as sub services, there will always be the hardcore fans. But the middle and lesser keen fans will join, leave, rejoin all the time.
Its not gonna be 80million+ consistent members for a long time I believe. The competition will get better also and probably new companies will join the industry ( Google, Apple, Amazon etc).

Xbox/MS despite what alot of people think have been incredibly smart though. Even if they competition does better, or companies like Google and Amazon join the industry, Xbox have bought some IP’s that will always keep them in the industry. Minecraft, Call of Duty, Doom, Crash, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Gears, Quake, Forza etc will always sell decent, or make comebacks. Regardless if the competition does alot better or Amazon come in and buy EA and Take2, I think Xbox is pretty safe.

Even if they aren’t great at making new IP or haven’t done a good job of Halo recently it can always make a comeback if done properly. This is the same with all these big IP, done correctly, they will always have a decent place in the industry.

They only reveal the public numbers once at the start of the year, they've done that in 2022, 2021, 2020.

If they were really channel stuffing millions of $1 subs, you'd think they would be talking about it every month 😂

I swear, it makes sense why so many like minded individuals have ended up here lol.

People have literally seen it in action.

So when it will come? Because it doesn't look to launch on PC in this FY.

There are tons of games being talked... including games on Steam since last year and they have not launched or showed until now.
Sony is working on more PC port? Yes, that is what they need to do.
Sony will launch Returnal soon? I don't know.

I still strong believe Returnal will launch after TLOU Part 1 and Sackboy Adventures on PC.
That end fitting my prediction April 2023 Returnal release on PC around the same time Sony announces Returnal 2 (that is 50/50 chance).

In this thread, with the kind of replies 95% of it has received, it's real precious to single out my post alone :ROFLMAO:

No games ? I had no idea not a single game had been released on the console this year.

Coulda fooled me
Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo tbf 🙏

And the Xbox release of Flight Sim.

Imagine what those GamePass numbers are going to be like when Starfield releases in 15 months time.

What it doesn't make sense to me is what you are doing here. Though I was rid of your bad attempts at humor and your cooperate chilling.

At least people won't be able to ask for years of refunds if Stafield sucks as much as the last trailer implied. They covered their asses from a Cyberpunk like disaster.

What it doesn't make sense to me is what you are doing here.

They're already projecting an increase in game pass growth and it off-setting the lack of first part titles for the next quarter as well.

Game Pass keeps on winning.

The same happened this quarter that is why the revenue gone down.
They are expecting the same for next quarter, and probably next one, next one, until they find a first-party launch in the desert.

Diablo 4 DAY ONE! OMG I need to go out and get an Xbox!!

Are any of these games...you know dated, given their history of studio management and delays, or will MS be handing out some more checks to third parties for low-to-medium budget games to launch on GamePass?

My guess is Redfall in Spring 2023. Starfield in September/October 2023. Multiplat Diablo in Q4. Oh and more Forza at some point. Yay.
