The fact that the cma came out first and blocked it means all the other regulators can see all the public, un redacted documents to add their complaints. Im sure the ftc has all the goods but just the fact we learned how bad the cloud deals actually were supposed to be where MS would keep 100 percent of all transactions might make the EC feel like they were lied to if they didn’t know.

Another factor is China too. Netease said they had the regulators ears and seem to be on the warpath. Not to mention US and China tensions are high now. I can’t predict what they do but I wouldn’t be surprised to seen them block it, especially now that the cma has.

One final thing, ALL the experts, ALL the analysts, ALL the influencers were wrong. We had like the wal street journal telling us the cma was about to approve the deal just a few days ago. I now think all positive media about this deal has been fake and astroturfed and in reality it never really had a chance as we’re seeing.

My question is WHY is Microsoft going this hard for the Xbox division? They’re burning their reputation and money on failing division. Is it because they think they will control gaming with this or are they just that arrogant?
The reason is because they want to control the next area where game’s transition to, the Cloud.
They cant control console market cause they were a generation late and Sony did such an amazing job with their intro console, the PS1, that it pretty much became impossible to disloge Sony’s hardware dominace since sony’s first entry. This became compacted with the follow up, PS2.
So naturally the only way to control gameing is to get a head start into cloud, buy up big ip, give the competition peanuts and proceed to clean up as their competitors bleed out, sell off and die as a result of ms controling the price, hardware, infrastructure and content in the cloud.

The cma saw right throug it. Cant see china and ec approving.

Seems that MS was going to allow other cloud gaming platforms CoD during 10 years buuuuut if they give MS 100% of the game/DLC/IAP/passes revenue made there, instead of the 70%:

I assume this means that Sony could have CoD on PS and PS cloud gaming but giving Sony 0% of the game's revenue instead of 30%. It's understandable that Jimbo told them to fuck off.

'We will be in gaming'... for sure, you don't need to shut down the gaming division if an acquisition goes wrong, mr. Nutella. Or is someone at MS tired of losing money with gaming and asking to shut down Xbox?

Funny how this bit of news is totally ignored by resetera

Where it’s at.
I do find it funny how many people don’t realize that this is the end of XBox.

This merger was Phil Spencer’s desperate, last-ditch attempt to keep the division going. He had to beg for this generation to get the green light, promising huge subscription uptake which failed to materialize, so he convinced the board that buying out the world’s oldest and largest third-party games publisher would fix the problem of their subscription services not finding a large enough base.

As of today, that merger is dead, killed by Microsoft’s own public statements about the cloud future they envision, and MS is on the hook for $3 billion in cancellation fees and has soiled the reputation of Xbox in the minds of all but their most dedicated, radicalized fanbase.

Failure on that level is a career-ender at any company, and Phil was the only one left that was keeping the lights on for Xbox. The all-hands “Don’t panic” meeting yesterday is a huge red flag.

Microsoft is going to kill XBox, and they won’t wait years to do it. This is likely to be the last holiday season for Xbox, with any unreleased exclusives either axed completely or pushed to PC, most of the dev teams they bought will be shuttered and Microsoft will abandon gaming, as it has never done anything but lose money for them.

But Phil is a visionary, haven't you heard?

I really doubt that. But we'll see.
I'd love to see this toxic company out of gaming just like they left smartphones, though.

Xbox is not dead by any stretch, but the "I'll wait until it's on Game Pass" mentality is impacting them hard.

Microsoft beleived they were being clever subsidizing this monster idea that would turn the games industry on its head. It was always a risky endeavour because if subscriber growth stalls, or they don't provide enough AAA content, the enterprise becomes unsustainable and their platform is damaged irreparably. They needed ABK to keep feeding the monster—to reach the crucial tipping point and tilt the scales forever in their favour.

So yes, the decision is a massive blow and no wonder senior Microsoft execs are losing composure, as they understand the numbers better than anyone, but they will increase their donations to US senators to turn up the heat on Sony, greasing the rails for a big acquisition in Japan (Sega most likely).

Edit: Also, it's not too late to contact the CMA expressing agreement with their decision. Be concise, polite, and reinforce why their decision is the correct one. I sent them some overlooked quotations where Satya Nadella admits that Microsoft possess an "incredible competitive advantage" in cloud gaming. The European Commission for Mergers also (case number: M.10646).

Lol it's over. They spent a year on this. Its too late to play nice. That behavioural factor that was constantly talked about. Has shown its ugly head in brad Smith stupidity. And it went to tv to public, and downing street. Once the lady spoke on TV it was a wrap. They won't go back on their word. They reaffirmed it in public. Move on. Tell Xbox to make games with those 30 studios instead of still showing CGI bullshots.

I see what your saying about Japan and how MS could potentially use the US congress as a weapon, but the Japanese government could just call the CMA/EU and tell them MS is attempting to black mail the entire government of Japan, can you do us a favor and block this? If the Japanese government or heck sony and nintendo went public with push back and accused MS of attempting to Blackmail the Japanese government that might cause alot of world wide scrutiny on Microsoft as an entire company from regulators. They flew way too close to the sun with this Activsion deal and their rhetoric since is casting them in a bad light.

Anything Microsoft does after this, especially after threatening governments and regulators is going to be looked at with a side eye if they think they can throw their weight around like that. ESCPIALLY like using the congress as weapon to harass other governments.

I wouldn't be too worried about US trying to interfere in Japan business or economics. It's not happening. Calm down, people.
MS are not buying Sega or any other big publisher for that matter.
They might try to get T2, but at this point, with how badly MS is reacting and how long the process was, I don't think they're trying to make any big acquisitions and I doubt the publishers would sell.
Maybe in a few years, but surely not in the next months or year.
