Nintendo are probably the only ones out of the big 3 who could survive without much 3rd party support given how much their first party sells.
They can NOW but nothing in the future is certain. What if they have another wii u disaster and relaible third parties they can depend on (sega is close with nintendo for example) isnt there? Would nintendo trust microsoft?

Where it’s at.
I feel like any publisher but sega youd have nintendo and sony lobbying japanese regulators to block it. IDK, nintendo seems to be extremely short sighted about all this consolidation in that they dont seem to be against any of it?
It’s because Nintendo honestly does not see themselves as a video game company. They see themselves as a toy company that currently makes video games.

That thinking is also why their product fails to evolve significantly for long periods of time and why their hardware is usually crap.

I think the Wiiu might have been their last foray into traditional non-portable consoles. If they stick to the switch model, they likely have very little to worry about given their tight hold on the handheld market. They would likely only need a few key partners like Capcom as well as their first party (which even had a relatively weak presence and some duds on the Wiiu contributing to its failure) which could probably do the heavy lifting for sales.

Never have been a Nintendo fan, but I lost faith in that company the minute they announced that cardboard cutout thing.

Blaming the country on Japan is the new frontier of Microsoft’s war against regulation.
I've seen the particular argument used in this article brought up a few times. It isn't a very good one.

Damn these Xbox Fanboys are down bad because of ABK getting resistance by all Antitrust authorities lol.

How is the PlayStation nation in a state of desperation? Anyone representing PlayStation is not on media tours talking about let us compete or throwing shit at the wall every time it looks like the deal might be block to try to preemptively appease the regulators. Last I check its Phil Spencer thats in every article contradicting everything he said before. We don't hear from Jim Ryan, Herman Hulst or any other heads of the division at all until its time for them to talk to the regulators.

Also if this deal was a walk in the park for Microsoft it would have closed a long time ago. its the regulators that saw the red flags and had concerns and wasnt influenced by anything else. if anything its the MS fanboys who is desperate to find this so call "win" for the trillion dollar company so they will no longer feel bad about investing their time and money into a undesirable ecosystem.

What is amusing is that not a single PS fan care about these Bethesda flops.
And not only redfall will flop. Starfield also will. Another investment by MS that won’t payoff.
I couldnt care less about either redfall or starfield. I still think starfield will be a buggy mess and seem rushed. Didnt Jason Schreier say that development didnt even start until 2020? That was peak covid too.

Some seem to think Capcom would sell to them as well, but I'm a lot more skeptical of that. Apparently MS tried years back but it fell through.

Let's be honest, those "some" are Xbox fanboys who don't operate on a basis of reality. Sony has more Capcom employees in their fold than Microsoft, and we know from financial results that Xbox doesn't even register for the majority of Capcom software sales. The only reason people speculate MS could buy Capcom is because they want MS to buy Capcom to screw over Sony. That is their only reason; it's stooped in pettiness and toxicity, nothing more.

As for Microsoft making a play to buy them years ago...maybe they did maybe they didn't. I doubt the source of that rumor is reliable, but it's not surprising why it fell through: the amount of talent bleed from Capcom if they sold to Microsoft would be unheard of. Microsoft would end up with a husk of the company and the IP, but very little talent to make the games.

I wouldn't read that much into it.

Don't be surprised if Persona 6 is a Day 1 Game Pass title. I keep getting the feeling that is going to happen, meanwhile they will somehow still expect their actual fanbase on PlayStation to pay up $70 for access to subsidize making it a Day 1 Game Pass release.

At some point if more 3P releases keep that type of strategy up I wonder if they're going to see sharp sales decline. Though that could be a calculated risk: if sales drop, creates more a reason for acquisition to save a "fledging" company, and that's an MO Microsoft have followed very closely with most of their acquisitions since 2018.

I almost wonder if that could be considered some form of market collusion...

Blaming the country on Japan is the new frontier of Microsoft’s war against regulation.

Gotta love a daily dose of xenophobia!

Wether Sega nor Capcom or any other Japanese publisher will ever sell themselves to the likes of Microsoft. This nothing but toxic gibberish of Xbots. They are preaching since OG Xbox released that Microsoft will buy Sega. I will tell you without being an analyst or gaming insider: Microsoft will never get a Japanese publisher in their fangs. Xbots want this to happen, because they want to screw over Sony. But luckily the reality is different. Japan is really strict for M&A, especially against Foreign countries. Apparently it seems Microsoft tried to takeover hostility Sega in 2022. This was when Sarah Bond and Phil Spencer were in TGS and talked about a big surprise they can’t talk about. This was before antitrust authorities become stricter on Microsoft and they were pretty arrogant, with stating they are not finished with buyouts. At it seems Japan government blocked this hostile takeover of Microsoft. That’s the chatter. Overall it’s backfiring on them right now from every corner. And I really doubt that regulators will approve any big acquisition of a publisher after Acquisition Blizzard. Remember EU spoke an antitrust-warning to Microsoft. They can’t do they please, not even if Sony acquires Square Enix.

Wait is this confirmed? Because that is really shitty of Microsoft if they tried a hostile takeover of Sega last year. I know they eventually announced the Sega & Azure strategic partnership, which I personally think is part of the reason so many Sega/Atlus games have been going to Game Pass (and the main reason I suspect Persona 6 could be a Day 1 in Game Pass), but that's a wholly different thing.

I'm not above believing Microsoft would have tried a hostile takeover of Sega (though considering their past relationship, I can't imagine WHY they would unless some SOJ board members were okay with it as a quick means of acquisition), but I gotta get some more info on that one. Sega are probably the only Japanese publisher I could even slightly realistically see Microsoft acquiring in the future, but I think that could create friction with them and Nintendo since Nintendo is the home of Sonic. Nintendo wouldn't want any Sonic games in Game Pass, for example, while Microsoft obviously would. Bam, immediate friction.

So, this lovely woman wrote to regulators about Sony's 'monopoly of 98%' in high end gaming....

Look at her funding.... what a corrupt lovely woman.

You can easily find her boasting about how she wrote to Japanese regulators etc about Sony...on twitter.
