Palworld
Baldurs Gate
Battlebit
Sons of the Forest
Lethal Company
System Shock
Pizza Tower
lethal company is the only one that really gained any traction. system shock wasn't really a sensation, sons of the forest fizzled, and palworld will probably fizzle soon as well. baldur's gate isn't an exclusive either

Lol no. Sons of the Forest is more successful than all those games. It was in the Platinum category on Steam for gross revenue in 2023.

lol no, it was hyped because the first game was a big hit so lots of people got on the bandwagon for Sons of the Forest. But it didn't last. It's out of the top 100 concurrent and 24h peak players now. It's barely charting above the first game.

You'd think a platform with 130+ million users would have a better frequency of these types of games and some regularly pushing even higher.

Calling it a "PC platform" isn't even particularly accurate; there's Steam (closed, walled garden ecosystem), GOG, EGS, Windows Store etc. And then you have all of these running on Windows (closed, walled garden ecosystem at the kernel & API levels) etc. If Steam is the only one really carrying PC gaming when it comes to substantial numbers, why not just call it the Steam platform?

It's like being a PlayStation fan but calling PlayStation "the console platform". You're just deliberately avoiding specificity out of some weird reason.

I do prefer to call it the Steam platform.

There's a pretty rapid clip of early access or out-of-nowhere hits. Party Animals was another big one. BattleBit... these community/meme games are coming out a lot more frequently than the big Playstation single player prestige game.
