You guys need to stop writing everything off as trolling… it’s the objective truth whether you like it or not. PlayStation is becoming another Xbox right before our eyes and you guys refuse to acknowledge it for some reason

Playstation started becoming another Xbox long before... Since late 00s after Uncharted 2 they slowly but surely started their journey to become the Calistation.

1994 2008 PS was way different than what has been since. Less profitable, but a lot more exciting.

No, not at all. PS was very different after 08 but nothing like Xbox. Once Jim/Hermen took over is when the aggressive Xboxification of PlayStation began, the more I think about the more I realize how awful and incompetent they’ve been these last 4~ years

So your position is that when Xbox does it it's bad but when Sony does it it's great?

Soon after Phil Spencer was promoted Xbox made PC ports a standard, wen't big into services and cloud. MS was already big into GaaS but Phil Spencer doubled down on that.

That sounds a lot like Jim Ryan to me. PlayStation fans even started talking like Xbox fans "the games are coming", "secret showcases", "wait till next year"...

Until you go an actually start playing cloud games on the go and find out it doesn't make any sense.

Being able to play your games on a portable while on a plane/train/hotel/remote area easily without having to worry about internet connection is the main appeal of portable devices. Nintendo and Valve get it.
Nintendo only has the one console. How many units is the steam deck pushing? Those kb/mouse 144fps enthusiasts really playing that junk?

Zubi tech (Followed by Digital Foundry) has some seemingly insider info on Sony’s cloud expansion, project q, etc….

Let them fight!

PS Cloud gaming is available in like twice the amount of countries, so I assume they have servers in way more countries than 15.

PS now in more regions and PC mobile would be a serious threat to xcloud based on back catalogue alone.
PS cloud gaming (PS+ Premium) is available in 30 countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States

Xcloud is available in 28 countries:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States

PS cloud gaming (PS+ Premium) is already available on PC. We know it's also coming to mobile, but still don't know when.

I admire how MS always managed to steer the market in the direction they want even when their products keep flopping.
PS is the one who started the game subs and cloud gaming in console, not MS. MS was the one following the steps of the market leader Sony, not the opposite.

The "major" new things that MS added and Sony copied were achievents and game agnostic voice chat.

Trash, all this money could be going to making great games....

Cloud gaming has NEVER taken off, the best it's ever done is barely survive. There is no great demand for this.

Hardware is always going to be the way for gaming.

It's sad that PlayStation don't know where their advantage is...as long as gaming has been hardware / console focused, they have had a huge lead...throw it away Jim...you moron. Throw it away...

That is actually normal.

They need to move PS Now (included in PS+++) to support PS5.
While I believe PS+++ is useless for me unless Sony stop with that subscription service then they need to upgrade their Streaming services hardware.

Pushing more units then the PlayStation portable device that doesn't exist.

Maybe Sony thinks cloud is where they'll have an advantage over MS/Google/Amazon/Apple. :ROFLMAO:

PS already has a streaming platform. What’s wrong with modernizing it?
Everything. They have the resources to invest on cloud gaming, PC ports but can't figure out a way to improve BC for PS4 or figure out a way to make PS3 BC work. They have slowed down investment on traditional title in the last few years and it will hardly grow for the next 2 or 3.

PlayStation console users are always the last priority to them and taken for granted.

It's worse than I thought. PlayStation strategy is to completely imitate what Phil Spencer did to Xbox. Jimbo must be a big Phil Spencer fan.

If their cloud solution works than it becomes even easier to not have a PlayStation at all. I'm already changing my stance on buying a PS5 Pro and might ditch the PS5 ecosystem entirely after FFVII Rebirth gets released if they don't announce a lot of new exciting games by then.

For half the price of a PS5 you can buy a GPU that smokes it, what is the actual incentive to restrict yourself to PlayStation ecosystem?
Yep. Seems like the Playstation as we knew it for close to 30 years is dead and buried. I get that brands need to evolve and the product needs to adjust, but Jim is really killing the brand we knew and turning it into something else. Of course some may like this, but me, as a consumer, cannot endorse it.
You morons, this is how Blockbuster is now extinct. They didn’t evolve. Industries change it would be stupid for Sony not to invest in cloud gaming. It’s not very good right now, but it could be the only way we play games in 20/30 years.

Yeah, now you idiot. Lol But what about in 20/30 years? Blockbuster laughed off Netflix. They thought that video online renting would never catch on and look at them now. Cloud gaming may not be good right now, but in the future the tech could mature where it could make it feasible to replace consoles. Technology always evolves, compare the internet in the 90’s to how it became today.

Lol when ppl really think that Sony is doing bad by evolving and staying ahead in streaming. Same was said with movies and streaming like Netflix has taken over basically every household. And please save the "but it's gaming and latency" rhetoric.

Btw I do not like Jim running the show, his focus does seem away from what made Ps3/4 great.

Weird because when MS started to plan it Cloud Gaming Sony was already delivering.
Even nVidia Cloud happened before MS Cloud.
They where not front-runner in anything.

The only good part of the article is that he is finally seeing the real world outside the dumb pro Xbox fantasies.

It's good that Sony is still "investing" in cloud (probably because MS is so loud about it) but I hope they didn't waste too much money in those datacenters and custom hardware.

Cloud is going nowhere and customers just don't like it. Waste of resources.

Am I supposed to be impressed by PS having a slightly higher number of countries when all but three are in Europe while Microsoft has 8 non-euro countries set up?

They are improving the tech, just in case it becomes viable in future. Can't do it suddenly, takes a few years so it's better to be prepared.

PS Plus subscriber numbers on console have been at 46-47 million since quite some time. PS5 is selling well, but not getting a lot of new subscribers for Sony. Growth is preferable to investors, not stagnation.

I was just showing the fact that PS Cloud is available in more countries than Xcloud.

I wasn't talking to you and I don't know who you are, I don't care if you get impressed by something I write or not.

But yes, PS have most of their market in US, JP and specially EU so it makes sense for them to focus there because it's where their players and money is. And well, during the almost 10 years of PS Now they slowly kept growing the number of supported countries, so it's fair to expect that they'll continue growing in the upoming years their market keeps growing and for them makes sense to invest there.
