And how easy it would be for MS to stop that narrative by releasing more detailed numbers...

Unless... :sneaky:

I know right, this is one case where releasing numbers would absolutely be in their benefit. But corporate policies and all I suppose.

We should be glad they release game pass numbers once annually at least.

Xbox Live MAU: 100m - Dec 2020

Now this is where i'll become generous. Let's subtract 25m from that 100m MAU so we don't even include the last known Game Pass install base. That gives an MAU of 75m XBL users as of Dec who aren't subbed to game pass.

46.3% of of XBL MAU, using PS+ as a reference, would be 34.7m.

In a very generous estimate with massive reductions, Game Pass + XBL Gold is roughly: 59.7m using 2+ year old metrics. Realistically it's probably way above 60m by now.
By default on Windows the XBL app gets launched automatically on boot, so unless you disable it you get counted on PC without playing a game or opening a game: just by using your PC you get counted as XBL.

So the real XBL MAU must be lower and pretty likely GP already has that same percentage of XBL MAU subbed. You also have to consider that Game Pass Ultimate already includes Gold and to upgrade from Gold to GPU only costs $1 so people should be retarded to don't upgrade.

And you also should consider that the amount of Gold subs without GPU must be very small since MS doesn't report its numbers since many years ago. They always try to twist to mention the metrics that make them look good, and if some metric doesn't look good they don't show it.

Actually,
  • Revenue = PlayStation > Xbox > Nintendo
  • Profits = Nintendo > PlayStation > Xbox
  • Subscription = PlayStation > Nintendo > Xbox
  • Console sales (same segment) = PlayStation > Xbox.
Either way, the competition is usually between PlayStation and Nintendo (both winning in certain metrics), while Xbox rarely gets in the picture.
You got revenue and console sales right. Profits you don't know and subscriptions are flat out wrong. Turns out Xbox is quite competitive after all.

It's already outlived Sega as a console maker and its only increasing in scale/scope and content/services production.

In my heart, it already won this gen with the release of Horizon Forbidden West.

Sorry Phil.

And yet nobody can't produce Microsoft Gaming revenue data, they are getting it from a source called Daniel Ahmada. With no source for his math.

Zhuge (Daniel Ahmed) is a senior analyst, in the absence of frequent stats from MS, we can only take the data given by reliable analysts like him or a firm like Ampere.

If you guys want to take VGChartz's word, that's also an option.

You don't even have to take his word. Just go back a couple of years regarding Microsoft's annual reports, get the latest gaming revenue number, and then apply the percentage change that they report with regards to gaming every year. That's exactly what Zhuge is doing.

Yeah, you've done the math (like how much money actually comes from GP monthly, which crushes a lot of 'backlash') but a lot of users don't like reading through the exhaustive reports. Zhuge is just bullet pointing the relevant parts for the gaming audience that cares about that kind of stuff.

He isn't the only one, other twitter'ers (tweeters ?) like Benji Sales, Nibel etc also do the same. I generally trust what those guys summarize from reports I wouldn't have the time or understanding to read otherwise.

Isn't it known that GP is running at a big big loss ?
All that 1$ subs are just to catch new customers

Windows runs on 1.4 billion active devices. So no, that's not how any of this works.

The upgrade also runs out which means the people who are not interested in GPU are not gonna spend any more money on it.

No, the exact opposite is known, according to the CEO of Microsoft gaming.

People (mostly Xbox stans) fall so easily for MS PR spins... When they say it's "sustainable" people assume they mean it's "profitable" but if it was profitable that's the word they would've used, MS always make sure to make any information that they think is positive public (that's why the CEO made sure to mention that Xbox sold more than PS5 for a few months on specific countries, after years and years of not saying anything).

Gamepass itself clearly isn't profitable and isn't going to be anytime soon, with Xbox games selling like shit it pretty much has to make up for all their massive development structure expense as well as all the money they need to pay third party devs to put their games on Gamepass.

If Gamepass is profitable imagine how profitable PS+ would have to be since Sony invests so much less resources in comparison and still has way more subscribers... there ain't no trials or promos for PS+ just greedy Jimbo asking for the full price.

MS entire plan revolved around Gamepass not being profitable, that way their size and willingness to accept massive losses would've kept the competition away. Too bad that it turns out that Sony can compete with it with minimal effort, no day one games, they didn't even bother with making many of their own old games available yet it's already has better games than Gamepass. :ROFLMAO:

Acquiring Bethesda Activision and Blizzard will only make the service even more unsustainable (unless they walk back of their word, wouldn't be the first time), regardless, I love to see it. Phil Spencer will go down as one of the biggest clowns and con artists in the game industry, well deserved.

Whom to trust, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, or a random Playstation console warrior on an obscure gaming forum?

At least I don't have a long track record that spans decades of being terrible at my job. Phil Spencer sucks and pretty much killed any chance of Xbox ever being a decent product. Even Don Mattrick did a far superior job.

I really don't understand how someone could be an Xbox fan while at the same time being a Phil stan, he is the worst thing that ever happened to Xbox, but then again, it makes sense that someone that like a low quality product like the Xbox and it's games would also like someone like Phil Spencer, in a way it's the perfect fit.

If MS cared about games they wouldn't have fired Phil Spencer 10 years ago, years and years of just garbage he should publicly apologize to Xbox fans if he had any decency.

Now that there aren't any Xbox IPs left for Phil to destroy I wonder what he is going to do... RIP CoD I guess.

Only one of them has been banned on multiple forums for unsubstantiated trolling ..

so that one .. that gets my vote :ROFLMAO:

People love to bring up the $1 subs, without realizing just how many of those would need to have been made to earn $183~ million it does on a monthly basis, as per Ampere. Folks get started on the intro prices then they become recurring members. Some folks don't resub, that's fine and expected for literally every sub service.

No, that's not known at all.
Sorry, I can't remember where I've seen this info about GP not making money really.
Maybe Sony said that

Idk about that, only been a fan since late 2020.

Dude was so outclassed by the competition that he had to go all in on some stupid new business model so that shareholders wouldn't give up on the Xbox division. "The Netflix of game", news flash, Netflix sucks.

Idk about that, only been a fan since late 2020.
Makes sense, you are just ignorant, it's a matter of time until you turn on Phil then.
