PC even back in the early 2000's had cards hitting the $500 and above threshold making that about $900 today.
While what you're saying on the surface seems genuine and accurate it's just not. The cost of R&D is far higher, manufacturing is far more costly, the use, type and amount of precious metals has increased.
$1,500 for top of the fray enthusiast low margin hardware seems on par with where things would be given the current state of affairs.
The 4080 is the actual flagship, things like the 4090 and Titan cards are the comical throw everything at the wall GPU's because why not.
PlayStation can attempt to go higher, but without the years long conditioning it will be a tough sell for its respective market.
