OTOH the sound performance on demanding scenarios is out of this world when compared to standard drivers on a similar price range. Throw anything at it and as long as the bitrate is adequate you'll never get any artifacts.Yeah planar magnetics are known to be fragile bc they rely on a thin metal film for the sound production. No dropsies
Anything else tends to muffle instruments together when faced with orchestral music with lots of timbre variety, but my Audeze Maxwells handle everything perfectly.
I couldn't speak for >$1000 audiophile cans as I don't own any of them, but at least for the price range the planar magnetics are really special.
