Why do you want Sony to acquire trash? No thanks.
Netherrealm, Rocksteady, Traveller Tales make great and very successful games. I'd keep the remaining WB studios for someone else like Embracer, MS, EA or Tencent.

They would be a great addition for PS Studios and they are the best selling fighting game dev, the best/top performing (at least before Insomniac's Spider-Man) superhero game dev and the best/top performer available kids/family friendly (plus very experienced and successful with movie adaptations) game dev.

The catch 22 sony is in right now is that it needs multiplayer GAAS to fund the AAA single play exclusives, hence them making 10 GAAS games in the next two years.
They never said they'll make 10 GaaS games in the next 2 years.

The problem is sonys base and audience want single player games.
Not true, most of the top performing games in PS are multiplayer and GaaS, but until now Sony focused on SP and non GaaS games. This is the reason of why are increasing their bet on MP and GaaS.

The worst think Sony could do is to associate themselves with Mortal Kombat, it's 2022, no need for a series that is stuck is the 90s.

Rocksteady doesn't release games.

If they get the right for Lego games, sure, then these studios that make Lego games are worth it.

You think that all these single player AAA games Sony is making that are selling 10m+ units aren't paying for themselves?

MK11 sold 12 million copies. It's arguably the biggest fighter around these days after Smash

The facts say the opposite: the most recent Mortal Kombat, MK11 is the best selling (and fastest selling) fighting game ever, sold over 12M copies in a couple of years and got 83 in Open Critic.

Maybe still isn't the best selling fighting game ever because the previous Mortal Kombat, MKX (84 Open Critic, 91% of critics recommnend) had sold 11M 3 years ago, 4 years after its launch.

Rocksteady doesn't release games.
The Batman Arkham games and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League aren't games. They are pancakes. Sure, Jan.

If they get the right for Lego games, sure, then these studios that make Lego games are worth it.
Fun fact: before going full Lego they already made many games for Sony (Sony Computer Entertainment/Sony Imagesoft/Psygnosis) including many great games even before they released the first PlayStation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveller's_Tales

In my personal case I loved Leander for Amiga or Mickey Mania.

Yes. The problem would be the ones that sell way less and cost the same. Or in the future way more because budgets increase every generation.

So they need to keep their backs covered just in case, by diversifying their revenue sources with more games and of more types, plus getting additional revenue sources like the game sub, movies/tv shows, mobile, pc ports, vr, etc.

In any case to invest on acquiring companies, making more pc ports or mobile games, or make more GaaS won't decrease their amount of non GaaS games: in fact they said they'll make more non-GaaS games than before (and this is not counting more companies to be acquired) and that they'll make more console games than before. I fact they said it still not counting Bungie or Haven because their acquisition wasn't closed, meaning counting Bungie, Haven and future acquisitions we'll see Sony releasing even more console and non GaaS games per year (than ever before).

Would be a smart buy.

I don’t care about Mortal Kombat anymore but it’s the most successful fighter in the industry ( I will never include Smash in this so don’t bother ). So nether realm would be a good get.

And without rocksteady Insomniac’s Spider-man wouldn’t exist…. Rocksteady is easily one of the industry’s premier developers.

PS - the Arkham games obliterate Spider-Man.
