It definitely is. Especially when it comes to Japanese games and Square Enix.

Sony should be more worried about the Switch 2 being as powerful as a PS4 and getting Square Enix’s big AAA games and even making them exclusive. We all know how Nintendo hardware performs in Japan.

Well, if PlayStation get stomped by Nintendo I'll just laugh, well deserved and I don't even like Nintendo.

Now that is actually a decent policy, they should only money hat games that include that sort of long term commitment in the deal and they should be going after many more games like this (on top of other moves).

I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more exclusive deals like this we haven’t heard about yet.

Like I said.....The Square Enix president said “whenever possible” for a reason.

Basically the AA games Xbox has already been getting.

I look at future announced PlayStation non-GaaS games and all I see are Spider-man, Wolverine, Death Stranding 2 and Rise of Ronnin. That's like one future PlayStation game for every huge publisher MS recently bought.

Part of my frustration is Xbox is a dead, zombie console, so it makes you wonder what crock of crap Phil Spencer and Sarah bond sold to this guy to justify giving Xbox another shot of life. Like from the collapsing hardware and software sales, we should be seeing publishers moving away from Xbox. Not towards.

Quality over quantity imo.

We all know MS is not known for anything quality. Those publishers are not going to change that. Look at the studio they tried building from the ground up.

The point is they aren't going to profit if the dev costs are more than the money they're gaining from new subscriptions. FF14 is absolutely massive. It's going to take a huge effort to port, playtest, and optimize the game for xbox. All for like $10,000 a month in new subs? Lmao, that's the cost of a single dev
Yeah it will be interesting how much that actually that pays off in the long run.

Monthly sub(alongside having to pay for gamepass) + Xbox fanbase not being big on japanese games, seems like an F from the get go.

There must have been some financial incentive to get it out for xbox.

As much as I think Bethesda games are shit that is not the opinion most people hold. MS now actually has a pretty decent amount of studios capable of making quality games even before acquiring Blizzard and Activision.

Things take time and around 2018 when MS started to at least try to fix this their studios were just a complete wasteland.

Games are taking longer and longer to be made and I don't see Sony making enough moves to compensate for that, in fact they are actually making move to hinder studios with GaaS games and PC support.

This is just a facade. Xbox previously did a massive PR event when Final Fantasy came to Game Pass in 2019, they did the same for Yakuza, Persona, Kingdom Hearts.

The MS-Sega partnership has already been walked back a little bit, Metaphor is not coming to Game Pass day one. Judgment, Lost Judgment, and Ishin was not released on Game Pass. Even Peter Hines expressed frustration at not being allowed to release their games on PS (they still have financial goals to meet).

Saying that, Sony needs to catch wake up, and start communicating. There have been some moves made, they had a roadmap called Partner Consolidation, I wonder what happened to it.

They aren’t doing nothing, they are doing something. They’re just not on kinda funny talking about it with tears in their eyes

SIE can see and hear everything being talked about online, they aren’t in their own bubble. They just move in silence.

Yes, your point still stands, how Xbox is securing these kind of partnerships when they're performing terribly by every metric is insane. And it's crazy that Sony is just sitting idly by and watching Xbox align themselves with two big Japanese IP that they helped succeed/popularize.

I feel like Xbox's partnership with Sega is the reason why Yakuza was rebranded to "Like A Dragon", and the reason why we won't be getting a Yakuza Gaiden physical release in the West, not to mention the garbage YouTuber YongYea (terribly) voice acting Kiryu 😢😢

Or they are still acquiring SE and more than likely SE will run autonomously? For MMO's to survive you need numbers. FF14 is doing great, but having it on more platforms means its run will be longer. AKA Destiny. A game thats going on almost 10 years. This game needs to be everywhere for large player base.

Same with the Bungie deal.

More than likely though Final Fantasy mainline games will still be a case by case basis depending on demand.

I think the question no one is asking is why did it take xbox doing this badly for Phil to take a trip? Like how do you not see where xbox is overseas? Everyone praising phil, the guy showed up with a boatload of money.

More importantly there is probably a deal in place to bring it to their store for PC as well since its F2P to a point. The biggest thing was getting rid of xblive paywall to play a game like FF14.
Sony never had that issue nor did they stone wall FF14 when it launched with dumb crossplay clauses like xbox one had back in early talks for FF14.
FF7R is still staying on PS, FF16 wont be on xbox any time soon.

Let's see how this goes.

But my money is on MS is now paying shit tons of money, and is fitting the bill for PC stuff/streaming/cloud. I bet this game will be free to play on xcloud without needing gamepass at some point.

Yes. But it costs money to maintain. And i doubt they're footing the bill to dev the expansions. Long term I just don't see it.

Honestly this feels like more of a publicity stunt and last ditch effort to fix relations.

I mean look at all the support from Malaysian studios for Sony? Look at Genshin Impact developers? MS literally SE was their last chance at having any kind of pressense/Japanese relationship.
