Having something exclusive has been apart of commerce ever since people started trading with each other. It’s still practiced today in every industry.

Only now in gaming do people want act like it’s a bad thing and anti consumer. And that only started because MS made Xbox a failed product, so they can’t cultivate exclusives anymore, and their fans and journalist want to defend and prop up anything they do or say.

Having something you can’t get anywhere else has always been business 101 the best way to sell products to people.

100%. Even the most basic clothing store or grocery store have exclusive items to attract customers. Only in the gaming industry is exclusivity vilified (specifically on Playstation, many exclusives on Steam without any controversy whatsoever).

Sony fell for the FUD and lost track of what made them sell their consoles.

Are you sure? Apple is failure after all with their all exclusives 😂

There needs to be some sort of revolution in input methodology to make the keyboard obsolete. The fact that it's still the fastest way to enter text despite 60+ years of technological advancement is baffling.
Nothing will ever be more efficient than pushing a button.

mind reading and automated typewriter?

already seen a gamer beat the game where inputs are made from mind reading :D
Would you drive a car with self driving capability?

Likely not. removing the tactile feeling of it makes it less fun. There's a reason why controllers with physical buttons and sticks are still made despite phone touchscreens being suitable for every control scheme you can think of

Likewise there's a fun factor to tapping along on the keyboard, the feel of the keys, sound of them, the speed, challenges you can create just based off of making the inputs with your hands. That's a sort of feeling that is taken away by a mind reading tech just pulling the thoughts out of your head

"nothing will ever be more efficient than storing an image one pixel at a time" - bro compression exists. Also, you're ignoring the fact that WASD loses fine control of directional inputs like sticks have. We already have multi button mice because traditional 2/3-button mice limited the number of inputs you could do with your right hand. Now imagine if we switched to like a dual mouse setup with keyboard inputs on each hand so you don't have to move your right hand off your mouse to type, but also had a trackball on the left to sub in for left stick directional input.

Pyo was enthusiastically supporting the ABK acquisition without fully understanding the consequences. He has no clue.

Irrelevant. How much do you have to pay to access iOS, Android, Eshop, Steamdeck and countless of other stores? Not sure of the point you're failing to make. There's a PS app if you want 🤷‍♂️

Those are not grocery stores those are digital stores.

The reason nobody complains about exclusivity in a restraunt or a grocery store is because they don't bar you out of the store unless you purchase a 500 dollar ID card to enter.
People complain in video games because of the price- exclusivity starts becoming more of a tangible issue when you can't just walk in and get to immediately play the game you want.

Also it's a problem with all the other stores you listed 🙄. On Android and IOS it's different because 99% of everything it's the same.

It's never been a problem ever in the history until Xbox started failing. I literally never heard anyone complain about buying a phone to play a mobile game. You never did too.

Fake problems.

i don't want to go hard on you mate, but education or life observation and life understanding failed you.

most of our life is based on ''exclusives''. it can be offered as products, as service, as food, as drinks, as other non essential stuff, as cars, as kitchen supplies etc and etc, exclusivity is endless.

even your mentioned restaurants mostly are run on Exclusive spices, bread dough etc etc to create the taste which is specific to that restaurant, pub or coffee shop... you think michelin restaurants are run of the same offerings as next restaurant!? 😂

When an ice cap melts, the first to go is the top third, then the middle third, the bottom third.

People acting like XBox is the reason for the market fundamentally shifting are lost.

What's with the silly comparisons lately?

If the "entry" fee is 500 bucks, exclusives are even more important. Both for giving people a reason to pay the "entry" fee, but also for people to stay and keep spending in your store instead of another one.

Yeah how is this supposed to address the point I made?

Exclusivity becomes more of a problem when the barrier to entry is heightened.

go and try to visit 3 michelin restaurant, good luck standing in a waiting list( for some restaurants even months)... and it can cost you even more than 500$.

exclusivity becomes and issue when you aren't offering enough exclusivity, not more.

what do you think is easier to buy or be interested, in product which cost 500$ that offers 1 exclusive item or 10 exclusive items?
i am pretty sure, any reasonable human being would chose 10. but it is just me.

xbox setting itself on fire isn't the same thing as the ice caps melting bro, that's a fundamental misunderstanding of what's going on here. If the market was actually collapsing it would have already done so given that cellphones and mobile gaming exploded 10 years ago and it's now a very mature market. You would have seen mobile take away the console audience the same way netflix took away the audience of blockbuster and redbox.

They were angry about Diablo Immortal because they wanted a full-fledged Diablo game, not a mobile F2P game. And it was on PC too. The buying a phone was just a meme.

Meta Quest and Steam VR also have exclusives and it's even more expensive. Nobody is angry. Guess why? It's not Playstation.

PlayStation is releasing the vast majority of their games on PC.

This is not an XBox thing. It’s a fundamental sea change in the market. The console industry is 45 years old. It’s not a coincidence that two of the three (if you even count a handheld) major players went third party in the span of two or three years from one another.
