I only care about them exiting the hardware business, to make way and space for another challenger. Don't care about publishing really although it does help get to point A faster - point A being exiting the hardware business.

They can continue to suck for all I care. A zebra can't change its stripes.

I personally don't care about platforms or brands themselves. I just like good games.

I really don't think this direct was it (yet again).

Fair enough. I enjoyed the Direct more this year than last year because I had no interest in The Elder Scrolls Online, Minecraft Legends or Forza Motorsport. Only games I cared about last year was Hi Fi Rush which was a great 8.5/10 for me and Redfall which was a very disappointing above average at best 6.0/10 for me.

This year though, I had Visions of Mana which I wasn't expecting whatsoever along with Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and Avowed. So last year was 2 out of 5 games while this year was 4 out of 5 games. I see all four of these games being between an 8 and a 9 for me personally so unless they turn out to all be a Redfall for me, I don't see myself having any problems.

So I will get great games this year from Microsoft so as of now, I have no worries but to each their own.

Visions of mana was good - multiplat, no gamepass
Indie/AA Jones was about what I expected, looking at the gameplay actually made me feel a bit like I was looking at reskinned wolfenstein tbh
Hellblade - not enough gameplay shown to really say one way or another but I could see it actually being good, since Ninja Theory are good devs
Avowed - looks a lot better than last time but doesn't even look as good as a flop like Immortals of Aveum. At least it wasnt a disgraceful trash heap, now it's just mid
Ara - Civ clone mixed with some age of empires aesthetics? Looks mid, not really sold. Maybe on the level of Humankind

Overall the show was FAR too much talking/bullshitting and FAR too little gameplay, i give it a C+

Gave it a B-. I like Avowed and Ara (4x can be great) but as anyone who's read any of my posts about it would know, I think the Senua series is hot garbage. And then I give zero points for multiplats regardless of quality and think Machine Games is really mid so ehh. If this is their year then they are in real trouble, especially on console where a Civ clone can't really do much.

I think it was ok. I'm only interested a bit on Indy and Hellblade 2, but I liked the format because I like to see devs being the ones who show their games, and also see them in the office working on them, plus some concept art etc.

I'd like to see others like Sony following this format: 4 studios to show their game with devs studio talking in their office, some artwork and specially some minutes of gameplay.

The Indiana Jones was a bit dissapointing but it's what I expected. I think it would have been a great opportunity to make an Uncharted-like game, but it's first person and its visuals are mediocre as usual in Machinegames.

This year though, I had Visions of Mana which I wasn't expecting whatsoever

Visions of Mana was outright mentioned for Xbox in Square-Enix's press statement for the game...on December 7, 2023. A day ahead of the VGAs, in fact:

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 7, 2023) – Today at The Game Awards, SQUARE ENIX®, revealed a brand-new entry in the beloved Mana series, Visions of Mana™, the first mainline instalment in more than 15 years. Visions of Mana will return to the series action-RPG roots and take players on a new adventure with protagonist Val, a soul guard assigned to protect his childhood friend, who has been chosen by the Faerie as the Alm of Fire to travel to the Tree of Mana and rejuvenate the mana flow. Visions of Mana is coming to PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and PC via STEAM® in 2024.

So if this was the thing people like Jez Corden were trying to say would "stir people up", they failed.

Dunno if the Xbox version was announced at the VGAs; if not then that probably had more to do with Square-Enix than any embargo, considering Microsoft had a big presence at the VGAs last year.

At least they are showing games from there 1st party games/xbox studios.....cough cough

If they went 3rd party, which I doubt.
Id be interested in Sea of Theives and Forza Horizon ( I want a open world arcade racer) whether I would buy then is another story, I havent bought a microsoft product in 14 years.

I think they are just talking 3rd party, so regulators let them buy more, like they said they would release COD for 10 years on PS. Thats all it could mean

Apologies. I meant that I wasn't expecting it to be at the Developer Direct. I already knew the game was revealed at The Game Awards and has been on my list since it's reveal. I didn't know about it being announced the day before The Game Awards though because I was on "blackout" mode as I didn't want to be spoiled on anything that was going to be shown at The Game Awards.

Sony needs to expand Insomniac since they are the only ones actually making more than one game a generation
