Microsoft not sharing console numbers has more to do with the fact that they can get a consumer into their eco-system without them having to buy a console. What you rather have? One person buying a PS5 for example at $500+ or five people buying that eventual streaming puck/stick at $100? Or even these five people just signing up to Game Pass via the TV app? Consoles are great, important and all but in the grand scheme of things, they're simply not as vital as they once were. I personally would prefer the five different users because that increases the chances of them spending more money by 5 over the one single person who buys a PS5 for example.

With that said, I would like to see Microsoft release the console sales numbers but im not expecting them to do so expect maybe in North America which I do believe they will take the lead by next year and win overall. For this I can see Microsoft releasing a statement.
That's not the reason why Microsoft stopped sharing console numbers. The primary reason they stopped sharing console numbers is that they weren't selling as much and didn't want to share abysmal data.

They did share the numbers for the first 2 or so years of the Xbox launch. When the numbers tapered off, they stopped sharing. They didn't even have Gamepass or any other way to get a consumer to their ecosystem at that time, but they still stopped sharing the data.

Second, I think you're overestimating the impact of subscriptions and the amount of money people spend on subs. For example, PS+ (which is twice as many subscribers as Gamepass and rarely has any discount or promotion -- meaning has a very high revenue potential), only generates roughly $3 to $3.5 billion in revenue per year.

On the other hand, PlayStation's platform (which is primarily built on the console) generates $25 billion in revenue.

In other words, even the gaming subscription with the highest subscriber base only generates roughly 12% of the revenue.

Also, if console sales weren't important, Nadella wouldn't be highlighting Xbox's recent quarterly performance.

ERA doesn't have a thread about it and it is indeed weird... they do have a comment or two in the PS Studios thread about it.
Installbase where most ERA sales guys moved have a thread.

IconEra is leading the charge.

I didn't say why they stopped almost a decade ago which we know was because of their shitty console sales numbers. I just meant in regards to now.

When I talk about subscriptions, I don't just mean the subscription itself. I'm also talking about the money people spend due to saving money because of the subscription. Game sales, dlc, micro-transactions, etc. I believe people who save money because of their subscription that they're far more likely to spend money in the eco-system because of that. And it does work because I have done it myself and that's with the Series X console so imagine people who don't have to buy the console and just go with streaming for example. They'll be more likely to spend more money because of the upfront money they've already saved.

The subscription itself isn't where Microsoft will end up making money (or at least not until it hits a certain subscriber count for them), it's on the other stuff that people will buy because they will feel like due to saving money upfront, they can spend it on other stuff within the eco-system. Console sales are important. They're just not the only aspect of getting a consumer into the eco-system.

It's not "weird" if it's intentional obfuscation 😉.

Reset has definitely been trying to vilify Sony/PlayStation the past few months, shortly after the ABK acquisition was announced, and basically do everything to paint PS as anti-consumer and Xbox as pro-consumer. A lot of backstage politics (gaming politics) stuff probably going on there too with certain individuals, if I had to speculate further.

TBF tho, Jimbo isn't necessarily making it too hard for them to do it, and the way they handled rolling out the price increase announcement is so unlike the brand (they always pad out bad news with good news, generally).

So it's really not surprising that news like this Ampere report they would suppress through complete obfuscation or ignoring it altogether. I should probably look at InstalledBase from time to time tbh to see what the sales discussion looks like.

IconEra is leading the charge.

Did the vilifying start around the time of the email Jim sent to employees requesting they respect differences of opinion?

I still don't think there's a thread for this on ResetERA tbh 🤣🤣🤣At least NeoGAF has a thread for the topic, though.

You'd have to pay me at this point to think ResetERA hasn't been compromised by certain shills or Ambassadors. All of a sudden sales discussion doesn't matter when we get hard numbers from a professional industry analysis firm? Sure, Jan 🤣
The news was completely buried and the thread on GAF is a shitshow. The VGChartz tweet from Aaron got a lot more attention 🙄

Any negative Sony news gets thousands of replies very quickly there. It's all about pushing the narrative that Xbox is winning.

That doesn't change what I effectively said: CoD isn't the biggest game in the world. Not even close.
The sales tell a different story. Sony told a different story as they complained about MS purchasing Activision. I'm pretty sure you believe what Sony says right?

Yeah MS just doesn't rely on console sales like the other platforms do. Them not giving numbers isn't even unprecedented. Apple does not release individual iPhone sales. Anyone think Apple is hiding the numbers so people can't see them failing?

GAF thread the peak of bullshiting.

Riky usual said Xbox Series is 17-20 million sold.
Suck bullshit.
Nobody showed him the true data for him.
Some guys agreed.

It just a fake narrative site now.

Lol. You really think CoD is bigger than Roblox and Fortnite? Not even in your wildest dreams.

MW2 is going to sell gang busters. So I have no clue wtf you are talking about. COD has ups and downs all the time depending on the title. MW is the most successful in recent years. To think MW2 wont be #1 selling game for most of 2022-2023 is really a alternate reality that only exists in you're head.

Vanguard (#25) is behind Black Ops (#16) on XBL itself. Its playerbase is shit. Game is a flop compared to previous entries big time. Active playerbase is the most important metric for a pvp game.

Retail CoD are just battlepasses for Warzone. With that said, Warzone is the second largest game in the world but that’s not Vanguard.

Vanguard however is a failure and represents when players abandoned arena CoD for Warzone. Arena CoD itself used to trail Fortnite… now it trails everything.

Warzone cannabalized CoD’s own playerbase.

A while ago there was a thread showing ps had more revenue then xbox in the npd data. Some idiot mod didn't like it, so they shutdown the thread because apparantley revenue didn't matter. Don't reallty use era for news anymore, ps subreddits seems as quick as era in posting news.
