Both can be correct. Just depends on the timeframe you are talking about.

Mine is correct 100%.
2021-2022 1st year
2022-2023 2nd year
2023-2024 3rd year
2024-2025 4th year
2025-2026 5th year.....

PS5 finished fully 36 months on the market which is 3 year at the end of 2023. PS5 is now in its 4th year as of beginning of 2024.

But I understand people taking 2020 two months as one year

Never saw that even when PS4 launched. Everybody knows 2 months isn't a year.

That is what Mat do… he says PS5 first year is 2020 (two months).

In a business sense it is correct too.

Anyway PS5 doesn’t have 4 years in the market… it has 3 years in the market… 3 years and 6 months as May 2024.

PS5 sales indeed peaked in it 2nd year until begin of 3rd year. We are in the 3rd year of PS5 in the market… it will reach 4th years in November 2024.

Makes the math… PS5 has 42 months in the market… 4 years = 48 months. We will be commemorating the 4th of PS5 in November 2024.

PS5 sales peaked in its 3rd year which was 2023. And no, i'm not taking fiscal years, but calendar years. PS5 completed fully 3 years in 2023, now it entered in its 4th year. Same crap as your birthday.

PS4 sales peaked in its 3rd year which was 2016. Launch time aligned with PS5 is 2023 which was its 3rd year.

Let’s give you a better example…

A guy made his 25th anniversary in November 2023.
He won a Olympic medal in July 2024.

That means he won the medal in his 26th year? No. He won in his 25th year.

Anybody that will reference to his feat will say “in his 25th year Mr. B broke the Olympic record…”, “at 25 years old Mr. B conquest the gold medal in…”.

Because until he makes 26th he is in 25th.

Say what you want. Any market analyst, even the amaterish one will say to you that PS5 sales peaked in its 3rd year which was year 2023. No, 2023 isn't PS5 2nd year. It is 3rd year just like the PS4 one was the 2016.

Hellblade was out of the top 100 on Europe and number 37 in USA 😬

Mat didn't report on it until somebody asked him and it was the biggest release of the month outside Mario 🤡

Even on Xbox it's out of the top 20 😬

Huh? 1st year nov 2020- nov 2021, 2nd year nov 2021-nov 2022, 3rd year nov 2022- nov 2023, we are now in the 4th year
So how much time is PS5 in the market for you?
I’m sure not 4 years.

It is being sold for 3 years… 3 years and 6 months (7 if you take June but as we talking about May here) to be exact.

My kid is living his 5th year and not 6th year even when he made 5th in May of this year… when he shows you his 5th album you won’t see pics with 4th years old.

Yep, 3 years and 8 months or so at this point. Hence being in the fourth year, but not four years completed. You and Anon are both right, you're just looking at it differently.

This is why I didn’t want to start this. lol.

Companies go by the year the product launches. So yes, 2020 is the first year PS5 is on the market. But going by calendar dates it’s not until November 2021 the PS5 is 1 year old.

Nov 22 2 years
Nov 23 3 years
Nov 24 4 years

Currently PS5 3 years and 8 months old.

Again both are correct depending on how you want define the dates.

PS5 going into it’s 4th year? Yes.

PS5 has been in the market for over 3 years? Yes.

Just like your kid is in its 6th year now until it is fully completed. :D. As i've said in previous post, same as birthday.

@Dr Bass explained it nicely.

I think many people & people like mat p underestimate the power of having true permanent exclusive to your console & its ability to sell consoles.

Sure many grab a console to play 3rd party but a major driving force (which Nintendo switch shows) people buy consoles for exclusive 1st then 2nd the 3rd party support. Ofc a major reason switch sold 150 million is the 2 skews that are sold at $200 & $300 which is a really low barrier. Even 3rd party games like COD, FIFA, NBA 2K on 1 console is selling 10, 15, 20 million similar numbers to PS & Nintendo games now if you gather all platform sells COD, FIFA & NBA 2K is selling 25 to 30 million which I feel like many people try to compare COD, FIFA, NBA 2K sells on all platforms as a way to diminish & belittle PS games on 1 platform selling 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 million on 1 platform.

Imagine if PS first party output was like Nintendo. They would be killing it in revenue & profit. In 2023 PS only had 1 AAA singleplayer PS first party game & in 2024 they have 0 AAA singleplayer PS first party game if PS could have 3-4 AAA singleplayer PS first party games with 3-4 AA singleplayer & 1-3 live service/mobile game per year PS would be killing it & truly be giving Nintendo a run for there money. But ultimately w PS focus on PC/Steam I only see Steam & Nintendo having massive growth & expansion that builds there ecosystem & platforms/storefront as the defacto default places to play games in gaming.

I can’t remember the last time a strictly pc release topped npd/circana. Wild that it’s a port of a game that’s quite a few years old.

But according to some people here, noone buys Sony games on PC becasue everyone pirates it.
Is GOT selling 250K worth the negative diminishes to the PS platform & PS storefront & bolstering its direct competitor platform & storefront? You also diminish the maximization of your in this case PS business to its full capacity.

Id say easily in the long run no, no it’s not worth the diminishment. What PS is doing rn w ports is short sighted & only chasing small to medium profits for medium to large diminishment to its whole PS platform/storefront & ecosystem + potentially damages, diminish or devalue the “magic” in a PS game/PS franchise

The game underperformed immensely and we need to stop trying to go against reality..it's a $70 game that sold a lot first month... Hence it's holding its place along with the fact there hasn't been many huge new releases to unseat the top 10
Did FF7 rebirth actually flop?

FF7 remake sold 3.5 million first weak with a console base of 100+ million

FF7 rebirth is rumored to sold 3 million w a console base of 50+ million

In the long run it will sell 5 million on PS console alone & another 2-3 million on PC pulling the same numbers if not selling more then FF7 remake (if the game launch on steam & epic & square doesn’t have a deal PC sells should do better then FF7 remake)

FF7 rebirth will outsell Dragon Dogma 2, Street Fighter 6 & will do similar numbers to RE4 in less platforms. But some reason the games previously mention are seen as major success. I still think FF7 rebirth should’ve been on PS4 having FF7 rebirth exclusive to PS aswell as the PS5 version being optimized would’ve been good enough & would’ve help FF7 rebirth sold 4.5 to maybe 5 million first week (if not first month)

Does Xbox low numbers gives MS/Xbox more leeway to buy another publisher? Likely a Asia base publisher seeing how interested they where in acquiring a japanese publisher in those leaks

He’s the first one to say how a PS game should be on PC day one or how a PS exclusive should be multiplat yet ignores any Xbox exclusive absolutely bombing. What happen to Halo infinite, Forza Motorsport, Starfield are those games even on the top 30?

He pushes how exclusive don’t matter like black in the day yet we literally looking at the data from Xbox & it’s showing quite the opposite actually if anything from data gather by Nintendo Switch consoles need more exclusive games especially seeing how PC now has Xbox & PS games & already has PC exclusive games by default & those PC exclusive being more in number compared to Xbox or PS

Was all this necessary? Notice I used the word "underperformed" - which the game currently is doing. Hopefully the days of play promotion will push it back on the charts next month but the game ain't selling well.

jesus christ...

Half this forum consistently has no idea what it is talking about. We need higher quality posters.

If you're in your first year of school but haven't finished yet, how much time have you spent in school?

The first year begins on your first day and ends after a full year.

Just like that the PS5 is in its 4th year, of which it will complete in November. This isn't up for debate or opinion.

I don't know if this continues to be an English language issue with a lot of posters being non native English speakers, but this is getting out of hand in how ridiculous it is.
