Guys, I unlocked the jetpack and drone, and they are very cool and fun. Sadly you can't equip them at the same time.

So is Helldivers one of those games where you need to play with people you know in order to enjoy it?
No. It is also fun playing alone (but harder) or with random players.

Communication isn't needed -at least in medium difficulty- but obviously helps.

But well, like in any other game it's more fun if you play with friends, even if not required.

After having my fill I can safely say the game is a 75. Game has a fair share of bugs, needs a lot of refinement, the grind is meh and the matchmaking issues in general detract from the whole game experience. Planet progress is also poorly balanced at the moment imo. Game is also missing a lot of content. Specially content that would address many issues like mobility (mech strategems), or boss planets (content depth). The good is definitely its gameplay loop and core, fairly in depth. Arrowhead nailed the feeling of the original but it's so much better with realistic graphics and in third person view.... no question about it. The game's peak and long term success will be dictated by how fast that team is able to address those issues while simultaneously add more content at a decent clip.

I mostly played solo to get to know the gameplay and explore with no rush. You just have to start by choosing Trivial and Easy missions. I was able to finish a Medium mission by myself but it's harder. You keep whatever you found when you die (besides samples) so it's not a total lost if you fail. You can respawn 5 times when solo then there's a cooldown period for another live. Don't forget to blow up the doors of blue/red containers, nice goodies inside.

I played some missions with people and I was stressed because I'm not sure if I could explore or do the objectives right away. One of them actually kicked me out while I was going the other way 😅

Gotta go for the objectives. Kinda a Helldivers rule. Always pay attention to the map ruler at the top of the screen, to see the markers players create, they'll guide you. Also identify early who is the alpha dog that's gonna lead to objectives (usually the host as a courtesy - but not always).

LOL yeah I just go to main objectives but some ppl like to clear the whole level. If I have more than ten minutes than I take other parts of the level but once it goes under 8 mins I'm going to extraction point.

Think the game will average an 83-85 still.

The only real knock against it i can see are the launch issues, (still broken matchmaking and crashes) and the content but the latter part will be a work in progress like most live service games. The fact that other planets open up once you liberate one is a really cool feature that feels like more biomes are just a stone throw away as long as the community is working together.

I can see how someone playing solo could not enjoy it but even with randoms the gameplay loop is way too fun to be anything less than an 8 imo

Odd, i didn’t even think of it as an extraction shooter until just now

Guess that proves in my mind how a lot of these buzz terms people throw around don’t really matter. Game genre’s are so diverse now that nothing fits neatly into one mold
