The funniest part here is: when was Astro Bot considered a tentpole IP?

No shade, but let's also be honest here. Astro's not been a major IP the same way Spiderman, TLOU, Uncharted, GOW, Horizon, or GT are. Even R&C have more cache as a tentpole IP than Astro Bot.

Again, the new Astro looks great. But popularity-wise it's not a tentpole game...yet somehow that's the (timed) console exclusive. Not the game based on an actual tentpole IP.

Amazing 🙄

Who is saying Astro Bot is a tentpole IP? But that being said, was Ghost of Tsushima before it released?

I think you're confused because Astro Bot is coming out to PS5 and not PC at least not initially, so you don't understand whether it fits in one camp or the other.

The reality is that Until Dawn is a remake of a game that already exists. By all reports Lego Horizon is a Horizon Zero Dawn remake set in the lego universe. I'm surprised it isn't releasing on Switch. We have no idea who is even developing the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't Guerrilla Games, it certainly wouldn't be their primary developers at any rate and as we know Until Dawn is being developed externally as well.

What the hell does the PS store have to do with our debate?

Didn’t Sony sell games in the 90s?

Didn’t Nintendo? Why were Rare games more expensive than other games on launch?
Yes, Sony even did sell games in the '80s. Even apps and edutainment games for the MSX computers. A few random examples:

The Lost Legacy started out as DLC. It was originally meant to be a short character story thing similar to Left Behind. I would know as it was included in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer season pass.

Naughty Dog then came out and said it became a full scale game and they will honor those who bought the season pass and still give it to them but it will became it's own game 🤣.

That's the only reason it was called a DLC by Sony as that's how it started out.
All DLCs can be made as standalone games.
That doesn't change it is still a DLC / Expansion.
It just means it has the copy of the engine and assets needed to it run standalone.

The definition that separe both are which engine and assets they are using... if it is the same as base game then it is a DLC / expansion and that is exactly the case of The Lost Legacy.
They are cheaper to developer because they use the base game for everything... and so their ROI are bigger than new full fledged games.

Insomniac explained all of that in detail with their leak.
Making even comparisons between revenue and profit for each type.

Uncharted 5 (if exists) will be a new full fledged game in the franchise.
Spider-man was a new full fledged game.
Miles Morales was a standalone DLC.
Spider-man 2 was a new full fledged game (new engine, new assets, etc... all described in Insomniac leak)
There is another standalone DLC planned to Spider-man 2 like Miles Morales.

PlayStation games are not being released on PC day one. *

* exception include: multiplayer games, GaaS, Bungie games, remakes, remasters, games that are not "tenpole games"

Why should Sony not release their games on PC day one anyway? PlayStation fans seems to think it's great and keep coming up with excuses for them.
And the reason we won't see "tentpole title " day 1 on PC ( assuming they are honest) is because they won't be making much of them in the next 5 years at least.

is this the nexon game one?

Did you mean NCSoft? And no, that was billed as an MMO.

In all likelihood there would be the following horizon games in development

Horizon 3
Horizon Online
Horizon MMO
Lego Horizon

It'll be very interesting to see what the difference between Horizon Online and the Horizon MMO.

It's cool to say this, but we know it isn't true.

We've already seen just Insomniac's roadmap for the next few years

Venom, Wolverine, Spider-Man 3, and X-Men all within the next 5 years...

That's JUST one studio...

Despite Sony only committing to at least 1 major tentpole game a year, I'd be surprised if we don't get at least 2 and in some cases 3.

What about Marvel and Spider-Man. Wolverine too. You think Lego is more powerful than Disney and Sony were bullied by them? 🤣

Sony own movie rights and Sony surely have some weights in negotiations. Also, mind you, as some of you have fish brain, Marvel approached Xbox first to make a Marvel game, Xbox refused.

So Lego has the power to negotiate a Sony owned IP and twist PlayStation arm into making it go on PC but not Xbox and Switch? 💀🤣

Sony simply didn't give a shit about Kratos being on Xbox, in their dumb eyes it was a genius cross promotional execution that would probably make "Xbox owners buy a PS5" 🤣

Sony wanted a Lego themed game. Guess who owns Lego?? Not Sony for sure.

Some of you buffoons are acting like only Sony has negotiation rights. But what about other side and their terms? You aren't for any kind of business. LOL

Lego Horizon makes SO much sense too.

It really helps both companies, even more so if the show is a success.

I'm sure the licensing agreement isn't as draconian as Marvel, but the decision to release on PC was probably to make the most of the investment. Lego will sell a multitude of sets based on the game. Think about how many landscapes and animal robots in that game.

So Lego said they needed this on PC otherwise no Lego game 🤣. But we all know where this game will sell most... SURE that theory works. All the horizon games are on PC it's that simple, they wanted it to be on PC.

Lego does not care about PC.

I agree, the game is on PC because Sony wants it on PC. The same as Until Dawn. They want to recover as much of that investment early on as possible and they don't really see either game selling PS5 units.

But across the board we still see games that are PS5 exclusive like Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and Astrobot with no PC announcement in view.

This all well and good but have you considered the possibility of their major tentpole releases not being good? Hasn't starfield not taught us anything, If they keep the games as some CIA top secret level stuff then most likely they have something to hide

They never needed PC to recoup their investment with the Horizon brand, they simply are just using PC now to hopefully try and pad their MAU and cross synergy with their IP's. It's a losing game but they will find out eventually.

Stellar Blade will go to PC eventually just watch, the contract Shu signed just didn't allow it, as Shu understands why exclusives matter.

Lego cares surely about money earned on many platforms as possible

Lego does not care about PC.

Lego cares about earning money, like every normal company.

Imagine a guy thinking that company with multiplatform franchise had sold on PC all this time... and have data with it sales on PC... doesn't care about PC at all.

That is who you replied to.
