The root cause is the Arabs who sold the land to the jews out from under their tenants, then the Arab nations refusing to accept the displaced Arabs as immigrants or refugees, and all of them blaming the jews for the problem.
Well, that's the political root cause, but I won't go into the scriptural cause, which is only present on one side of the issue.
