I'm exactly where you are...

I held off on my indictment of the Jim and Hermen duo for a while to see what they could do but today confirmed to me that they have no clue about their audience, no idea what we want, they want to shove GAAS, cheap 3rd party games and streaming down our throat.

It honestly feels like XBox lite is their vision for PlayStation and I AM NOT down for that.

I think they need to go ASAP. It may be the beers making me say that but it feels right to get them out of leadership right now.
I don't drink and I would have fired both of them the second they mentioned PC back in 2020.

They gotta go and PS fans need to shed the "be reasonable" cap and push for it. No stone for them to hide. They're not wanted, period! Say what you feel out loud. Podcasters and influencers are the biggest problem, they play at the margins on this BS cause of their channels, thus herding the crowd into inaction and hesitation.

Otherwise we will continue to get finessed Phil lite with no end in sight. The clowns got a taste of it already... remember: "He didn't hear any complaints from the PS fanbase about going PC".

First strike: I believe in generations.
Second and final strike: "We haven't heard any complaints from the PS fanbase about PC" - he's bsing and he knows it.
Double tap: This GAAS shitshow.

Fuck em.

No I was on the other side but they are burning PlayStation down and some of it may be unfixable

Sony spent decades finding their groove in first party and these two dickheads come in and say "not enough" as PS is winning GOTYs and breaking records

Noo, we actually need to be chasing the GAAS unicorn with shitty Ubisoft clones. And we need to completely undermine the appeal of PS5 by putting everything on PC

Could you imagine Nintendo doing this in a million years?

Pros
  • I have been really surprised to see Haven or Firewalk, Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay
  • Loved to see music & visual artstyles I love in Marathon and Concord
  • I'm happy to see Sony is differentiating their shooters as I expected
  • Spider-Man 2 seems that -as expected- will be a great game, even if maybe isn't the visual showcase I expected
  • Even if we saw very little from Fairgame$, at least I saw that apparently isn't going to be the Sims/Animal Crossing/Fortnite/LBP I was expecting
  • Happy to see Arrowhead going AAA/Gears, I know the game will be really fun but visuals don't seem as top tier as other Sony games, but at least they shown gameplay
  • MGS3 isn't only real (even if the trailer was weird) but they also announcced "Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1" with the 3 original games being released for PS5 this Fall. And if there's a Vol.1 I assume it means there will be a Vol.2
  • As a dev, knowing how risky and difficult is to work on new IP specially in AAA publishers I loved to see a huge amount of new IPs, many of them looking great. Other than the Sony stuff I want also to highlight Phantom Blade 0, Sword of the Sea, Neva (by some very talented folks I know, are from my city) or Square Enix's Splacum
  • FFXVI and SF6 launch trailers, we'll continue eating good without having to wait
  • Love to see that RE4R for PSVR2 is the full campaign, looked great. Arizona Sunshine II, Crossfire Sierra Squad, Synapse and Beat Saber (now with Queen!) seem good and solid VR titles, even if personally not for me
  • AC Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Ghostrunner 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Tower Fantasy looked good, I'm pretty sure many people will love them
  • There were also other promising indies like The Plucky Squire, Teardown, Towers of Aghasba, Ultros, Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted 2 or Thalos Principle 2 that aren't for me but I think they'll be good and will have their fans
  • I think it's also good a movie adaptation trailer (only one) per show
  • The remote play device and the earbuds look great and I bet many people will love them. Let's hope they aren't too expensive
Cons
  • Sony went back to have some CG announcements
  • Games announced without even mentioning a release year (even if I'm sure all of them will be late 2024 or 2025 games)
  • They didn't show Wolverine, TLOU Online and Cory's new IP, games I was pretty sure that we were going to see here and are some of my maybe most anticipated games

But well, I assume Sony wanted to save some games for other streams across the year like the TGS one, or maybe one around the Gamescom. And obviously next year. I also assume that Geoff will get at least 1 Sony game trailer, maybe Death Stranding 2 or TLOU Online.

@Yurinka where are those 25 billion games you keep saying Sony has? The single player ones. It's for a friend.
I never said they have 25 billion games.

Hermen said multiple times they had over 25 games under development in different stages of development. We know a dozen of them are GaaS/MP, so less than the half of the games they have under development.

Also, there's this graph: they'll increase their investment in non GaaS:

You also has to know that MP GaaS games are way more expensive than single player games because there are years of development & marketing work after launch plus the server costs. Which means that the amount of games they will be investing on in FY2025 won't be 60% GaaS vs 40% non GaaS (the graph shows percentage of money invested, not games).

If you can't accept or don't like what Sony says and does it's your issue, not mine.

Can someone tell Jim that mid-generation showcase doesn't mean the games have to be mid as well?

The worst thing they've done since the PS3 price reveal.

6.0/10 even though I changed how I "rate" showcases this generation. I simply go based on how many games I get out of showcase out of how many were shown. PSVR 2 and any dlc/expansions are excluded. So 26 games were shown and I got 5 out of the 26. Final Fantasy XVI, Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dragon's Dogma 2 and Marvel's Spider Man 2 which equates to 19%. Second lowest showcase for me this generation with Microsoft's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 being the lowest at 17%.

I will say that this is a rare miss/letdown from Sony and Microsoft has an opportunity to take advantage by having a massive showcase and while im expecting their showcase to be better than last year, im still going in with low expectations simply due to the fact that my expectation is yet another Game Pass showcase which for the most part is not for me.
