Well on the plus side of this Playstation now has to jump back into developing multi-player FPS games unless they're content with continuously funding Xbox's warchest and falling behind. They definitely got cocky I mean honestly who expected anyone e to break the gentleman's agreement of not buying multiplatform developers. So they're more then likely going to start playing hardball too. Downside is they don't have nearly as much money as Xbox's parent company.

Stock price dropped last year when the deal was announced, all the sony share holding doubters sold and dipped the fuck up out of there last year.
If the stock is dropping now its unrelated to the merger. Stocks drop because of uncertainty or when the economy adjust. Tomorrow when market opens uncertainty around COD future on PS will have subsided and will make traders buy up sony stock tomorrow cause they now know for sure that cod is staying on cod.

If Sony can't get a hold of $30B to save their most valuable subsidiary then they deserve all that is coming to them.
If they go and acquires publishers like Capcom, Square or Sega then they secure their dominance for years to come regardless of what MS does.
Right now they look like idiots that think Fairgame$, Concord and multiplataform Marathon are going to do it for them.

Microsoft already buried all their internal studios and IP not working on Forza. Bethesda and Activision are replacements for their previous failures.
Yes, this is Microsoft getting their hands on PlayStation revenues but that’s also the reason why neither MS, ABK or Sony want to lose those revenue streams. So the choice made today is an easy one to make. To keep making money for all parties. Restricting sales on PlayStation would hurt Sony and even their own platform agnostic ambitions.
Sony IS market leader in the console space and the PS5 a sales juggernaut. And they still have the better pedigree of talent to continue being such. However with Starfield and Diablo Sony does not have similar genres covered. That’s okay tho.
IP’s can be disregarded. Now MS have Crash and Halo… Oh wow… well Sony has the studios that actually made them. Like who gives a shit. You saw how they buried console defining Halo. Respawn happened FFS.
Even claiming that MS now has 2 top 10 games on PlayStation is funny… because none of their own games were top 10 on Xbox either. So you can make the statement about their own platform up until they bought those games’ makers.
At the end the day tho. Gamepass is so value destructive to the funding and development of AAA gaming that I’m more confident in it destroying many more studios and further talent exodus. It’s been true so far…. So… RIP Activision.

If it were that easy Microsoft would have done that themselves.
So either the truth is developing a COD competitor that's just as big is almost impossible to do intentionally, or Sony's 1P management is better enough than Microsoft's to pull the impossible off.
Which puts immediate doubt into how COD will fare under Microsoft's management going forward (which could potentially be a great thing as that would work against them making future gaming acquisitions).

-Big on there own 1st party studios again like PS3 gen.
-Big on multiplayer games
-Big on purchasing a publisher or 2 that can save there platform for the future ( Capcom x Sega/ Square- Konami etc ) would basically secure there future. Securing IPs is the key. Or even a studio like FromSoft.
Or invest big enough so they cant get bought by MS, Tencent etc
The next year is gonna determine there future. And if they are intelligent enough to deal with it

You look at them during the PS4 gen and how dominant they were, yet how little they leveraged that to expand and get rid of Xbox. They acquired a single studio late in the gen as a response to multiple MS acquisitions, Insomniac(a studio that mostly made games for them already), closed 3 studios right before it in 2012 (Bigbig, Zipper, Psygnosis) then closed 3 more studios in the following years(Evolution, Guerrilla Cambridge, Machester Studios) and got rid of their once big PC publisher arm (Sony Online Entretainment).
In the PS5 gen they closed Japan Studios (a small part of it turned into Team Asobi), Pixelopus, acquired Bungie to make multiplataform games, started to release MLB day on on Gamepass (and not on PS+), acquire Bluepoint, Housemarque, Firesprite/Fabrik (studios that already made games for them), Valkyrie (support studio for PlayStation games), Nixxes (PC port house), set up Haven and Firewalk (two new GaaS studios that never released a game) and Savage Studios (a mobile game developer). Changed their police and from now on are expected to release all their games on PC sooner or later.
This is what MS did while having the struggling Xbox One console on the market:
Bought Mojang in 2014, Undead Labs/Obsidian/Ninja Theory/inXile/Compulsion/Double Fine/Playground in 2018 and also founded The Initiative. The only non-completelly obscure studio they closed during that time was Lionhead.
Now with another strugling console on the market they just go an buy Bethesda folowed up by Activsion Blizzard two massive publishers and removed all their future games from PlayStation with the exception of CoD.
It's ridiculously one sided and it's important to remember that before we actually feel the effects of most of this stuff Xbox was still somewhat competitive somehow (mostly because of aggressive prices, deals, willingness to eat losses, all things that they'll have even more incentive to do if they feel they got PlayStation on the ropes).
