shows how lost they are and how little they know about their own audience, Helldivers 2 was released with server limitations, they had no faith in the commercial success of that title, but they had absolute expectations for Concord, the level of investment already shows... still, you'll see people here saying the people in charge of this brand knows exactly what they're doing, but the question is, do they?

Or...

An already stabilized franchise received less marketing to make a name than a new franchise 🤷‍♂️
You know Helldivers 2 was a sequel to an already successful game (it sold over 4 million copies).

Plus that is not even the big point... Sony is investing in their studio... Helldivers 2's studio is a 3rd-party developer.
Not hard to understand no?

They are an internal studio that probably has more access than Arrowhead.

Helldivers was NOT a stabilized franchise, it was very, VERY niche since the first title, it became what it became after Helldivers 2, and Plus Sony owns the Helldivers IP, just like they own the Concord IP, the fact that they don't own Arrowhead means absolutely nothing in this case, the value of the IP continues to be on Sony's hands

Not the most positive person could have expected the game to take off like it did. The Helldivers I numbers paled in comparison to what Helldivers II became so it would have been reckless to overspend on servers for a modest hit

and that's exactly the problem, why purchasing a studio without even seeing the commercial performance of their title? Concord is now having Destruction AllStars numbers and Firewalk run the risk of being entirely shut down, that was NOT a great vision and NOT a great leadership choice

they released the game as a multiplatform title across PC and PlayStation, they had to be prepared for anything, specially knowing these audiences. having server limitations for WEEKS after the game's release gave them one of their most controversial events in the history of the brand eventually with the account link limitation, they could've increased PSN MAU numbers by millions if the game was properly prepared for release and if they had real faith in the project

That’s bs! Helldivers2 had originally a 4yr dev cycle. But Sony increased the budget and gave them 8yrs. Arrowhead has praised Sony for their support. Also concord is a first party and concord a brand new ip in a more competitive genre Sony has to do more to push it

Not necessarily true. Helldivers is a much different game, there's no focus on different characters with backstories.
At the same time, yeah they didn't expect Helldivers 2 to be this big and I do think they put a lot of effort into Concord believing this game would be the biggest new hero shooter, hence why we're getting so much story/character material. I don't know if the team is currently working as hard as they did before the beta, I think Sony will tell them to lay off the gas and maybe look into developing something else cause clearly, even if the game is fun to play, it's not going to hold against the competition which is free to play.

How dare PlayStation allocate a bigger budget for an internal studio they just spent a lot of money on to acquire in hopes they can set them up to establish a new Multiplayer IP.

And how dare PlayStation play it safe with Helldivers 2 to not run the risk of sinking Arrowhead and their own IP in debt in-case it didn't blow up, after funding it for 8 years.

Let's be real now...nobody was clamouring for a sequel. The response was pretty muted till it released.
that franchise was not mainstream, it became what it became with the release of the second title, but Sony barely marketed the game, had no real investment in it, even tho it was an absolute console seller, the game had no console bundle for example, i find it funny how Sony spent 2 years crying about Call Of Duty, within a year after the closure of the ABK deal they got the biggest live service title of 2024 and barely marketed it, it disgusts me how little they trust their own franchises to succeed

That is absolutely false.
You have tons of articles talking about how gamers wanted a sequel.

Just because they took 8 years developing the sequel doesn't mean games didn't want one lol

Seems PlayStation is fully on onboard with the game and will try to help them weather the storm. If all else fails they will put it on PS+ for 6 months

you're just circleying the point, acquiring this studio was a poor leadership choice in the first place, the game doesn't even have an identity, it's a poorly made copy of guardians of the galaxy, the characters have the charisma of a door
