Xbox is not the savior platform that brings everyone success, let a alone a JRPG franchise that Sony nurtured the success of themselves. If it ever comes to Xbox, MS is footing the bill for sure. SE has the data to know xbox isn't a very profitable platform to invest in.

These guys forgot the dumpster fire state MS left the Japanese industry in during the 360 days. They bought out so much of their talent for exclusive games and left them for dead right after because halo and mass effect were popping too much for them to really care. Japanese devs at this point know how short sighted and unrealistic MS is.

You can't port it to switch, Xbots don't buy games, and PC traditional game sales are maybe 10-15% of the size of consoles. Rebirth is an absolute masterpiece of a game, so it sucks to not see it top the charts, but keeping the original off PS+ and more importantly PC would've improved launch sales here.

If Xbox was to buy Square Enix the only thing that would change is that they would run them into the ground. Pretty much all key developers would leave and start making similar games under a new name.

These Xbots still haven't understood that there is no saving Xbox. ABK, Bethesda and MS studios are in terrible shape them buying more publishers would only make things harder for them.

More people would be buying the game if they hadn't put FFVII Remake so quickly into PS+ and if there was no upcoming PC version for them to pirate.

The game itself is unbelievably good, SE did a great job. It could easily end up going down as the best trilogy ever going by the first two games (haven't finished Rebirth year but with about 40h+ played it's looking like another banger).

At this point I do think it would be better for Sony to do mid/high-budget AA revivals of their own 1P JRPG IPs than pay for timed FF exclusivity. Legend of Dragoon, Dark Cloud being two examples. Or doing a Parappa game in the style of a Paper Mario RPG.

Things that wouldn't require massive budgets, for IP they have full ownership of, and can leverage with transmedia initiatives as well. I mean the way I see it, if Square-Enix ask for say $150 million for timed exclusivity & marketing on FF VII Part 3, why not just opt for $50 million towards a new Legend of Dragoon or Dark Cloud, that you can then grow into a big deal?

They'd have more say and flexibility over design decisions that way.

Thats without all the games studios, publishers, marketing, loss on hardware, payouts to third parties for content and ports, and acquisitions the xbox division has to cover. Id say its entirely possible xbox loses well over 5 billion a year at least.

There are twice as many Paramount+ subscribers out there than Gamepass subscribers.

Even with those numbers they still had an almost $2B loss and to think Phil Spencer tried to gaslight the entire game industry that Gamepass was profitable. Unless we somehow find out that Xbox was investing less on Gamepass than Paramount is investing on Paramount+ something I find extremely unlikely (given that their most watched series is fucking Halo).
