yuzu will pay $2.4 million in damages to Nintendo to settle their lawsuit

My simple opinion.

Yuzu is illegal.

You will ask why?

Because it doesn't force the user to own the game he wants to play.
It basically doesn't have any mechanics to validate the user using it has a legal copy of the game.
That makes it illegal.

And more it is incentive indirectly priracy via YT, Twitter, Pateon and more.

How do you do a non illegal emulator?

Simple.
Add any mechanisms to check if the user has a legal copy of the game.
Like reading the own Nintendo game cards and checking their legality.

But Yuzu cared about that? No.
It was malicious using others properties to get money from users.

The last question and most important.

Why Yuzu didn't focus in legal emulations with checks to see if the user has a legal copy of the game?

Because they won't get money with legal emulators.
Except nearly every service I can think of, for example Youtube, does not "force the user" to comply with laws, or "have any mechanics to validate" legality. That's why DMCAs exist - to let platforms receive reports and act accordingly. It's impossible to check correct use of software because it requires a massive resource investment. In fact, is it even possible? How can Yuzu verify whether switch games are legitimately owned by a user? Does that ownership transfer if they sell the game second hand? What is the mechanism to tell this apart? What if people start keygens, how is Yuzu meant to police that? Pretty obvious this places the onus on Yuzu to make people follow the law, instead of on people to follow the law. Agency doesn't work that way and suggesting a society run by laws like this is insane. Why not force liquor stores to ensure their customers follow the laws when drunk? Why not force browser makers to ensure nobody does anything illegal online? Sounds ridiculous, but many want a world like this.

Seeing these Nintendo retards celebrate is pissing me off 😡 but seeing PCMR chuds cry is making me laugh 😂 Two equally awful fan bases, I’m a bit torn.

Oh well, this doesn’t really change anything, Ryujinx is still alive and well 😁
Ryujinx is probably next on their list but it doesn't really matter it's not like they can take down every site that you can download a build from or take away every device that has a working build on it so it can never be uploaded again lol

There's likely to be a chilling effect on emulation in general because of this. Citra was also taken down. The Steam Deck (unofficial) Discord removed their #emulation discussion section a minute ago. Even if you can always get access to the 3/3/2024 builds, it's now legally risky to continue development on the open source code base. This is dark shit.

If 'most people use emulators for piracy' what makes you think they're paying for an emulator they download for free 🤣
I wonder what the reactions would be if Sony and Nintendo worked with RPCS3 and Dolphin to get PS3 games running on the PS5/PS5 Pro and Gamecube/Wii Games running on the Switch 2. Would people still want the law to ban emulators?

I'm sure whenever they make an 'in house emulator' they take the years of work people have done on open source emulators & just copy them when it's in their benefit

Did you read what I said? You talked about "force" and "mechanics" to prevent lawbreaking. If you can upload copyrighted music, it wasn't prevented? Nobody was "forced" not to break the law, they were able to do so but a remedy was implemented. Music is the lowest hanging fruit to enforce because you can stick the 100 most popular songs in a database and checking audio layer far easier, especially now, then anything else. But copyright music isn't the be all and end all of copyright violations, hence why the DMCA system exists. Does the person who uploaded this have the rights to it? Because you argued that as Yuzu cannot enforce 100% law abiding behaviour it needs to go, and this is evidence of Youtube not "forcing" law abiding behaviour, so Youtube must also go.

The point is the standards you're holding Yuzu to are broken be many, many other companies and services, so they are evidently not good standards.

Thank God for RyujinX.

And more are sure to come, even Yuzu can resurface under a different name, since it's still open source after all.

If the owner of the music go on YouTube and ask to the video to be removed... it will be removed.
If Nintendo go to Yuzu asks to remove the ability to play Switch games what will happen?

Did you understood now?
There is no option in Yuzu to not play illegal content.
It was make to play illegal content.

Youtube is a platform, Yuzu is not. Now you're moving the goalposts. Your original statement: "Because it doesn't force the user to own the game he wants to play." The comparison to youtube would be "[Youtube] doesn't force the user to own the [rights to the video] he wants to [watch]." Youtube doesn't do that. Because it's impossible to have an end-user centric enforcement model. Hence why DMCAs exist. They DMCA criminals who do the wrong thing, and Youtube facilitates that. Nintendo can DMCA any game files online, right? Yuzu doesn't have copyrighted content in their files. Yuzu doesn't pass on, sell, or share Nintendo's games, right? So they aren't involved in the DMCA process. Nintendo should DMCA the rulebreakers, something they can do that already uses a criminal focused enforcement mechanism instead of end user.

"There is no option in Yuzu to not play illegal content." This is just flat out stupid. If you're not doing anything illegal with Yuzu, it's not a crime. Stop trying to reverse the causality to, again, put the onus on the software to prevent end users from committing crimes. This is as stupid as saying "There is no option to not illegally use a firearm" because criminals use guns. People are to blame for crimes, not objects.

See how he admits they doing illegal things 🤷‍♂️
I
Nintendo has every right to protect their copyright and IP from PC pirates.

I really hope the law is reformed to outright ban emulators so you pirates can stop using this flimsy argument.

Just get a job and buy the games like an adult.

Emulation is used for many things in software. Of it's banned we will all be screwed. Gaming means little here.
