One thing I’ve noticed is the super zealot Xbox fans at resetera are fuming that he retired. I don’t get it.

Can you link or screen cap some of these post?

They know some PlayStation fans don’t like him. He’s always talking about PC also. They’re probably mad because PC ports can possibly stop being done and no more devaluing PlayStation.

Anything to keep the few negative vibes around PlayStation makes them happy. A new CEO will shake those off.

The poster Sealord of Bravos and the guy who has the old lady as his profile picture. Dude literally said Jim retired because of his behavior during the ABK Ordeal. Like, Jim barely said anything lol.

They love making stuff up to confirm their nonsensical bias that’s for sure.

PC ports won't "possible stop". It's a part of PlayStation now and you will see a lot more from Sony regarding PlayStation PC and PlayStation Mobile in the next months and years.

Jim isn't a dictator who makes all the big decisions at SIE. It's a whole team that makes them. Sony's goal for SIE/PS is to grow beyond consoles. And the next big target (regarding acquisitions) is the PC and Mobile part of SIE. Not much will change. SIE has their plans and they will continue. With or without Jim Ryan.

It will continue to be the dumbest decision Sony has made if so. Point blank.

He does play games moron. Check his gamertag. But that doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing.
I think that's a fake number. Sure he did 200 hours of vampire survivor in 2 weeks. Interns mixing up the games to pump numbers but double jobbed.

I doubt we will see some big increase in PC ports of PS5 games, as the financial incentive simply isn't at an adequate level to ramp things up.

We will see the GAAS products and ports of major exclusives, but I think they will stay at the one-year minimum holdback for the most part, if not longer.

That said, it hasn't harmed PS5 in any way whatsoever. The whole bullshit line about Making PS5 less special" is just infantile whining about having to share your toys. The only way PC ports would hurt PS5 is If Sony started to prioritize PC builds, and the fact that they bought a porting studio shows that that isn't going to happen.

People need to chill.

And, as always, fuck PC games, PC gamers and PC gaming in general.

Games are bigger than hardware. Playstation makes some of the best games. Actual Playstation is bold and aggressive, Playstation fans are timid and backward-looking. Sad!

The only backwards looking is believing games are required to be on every hardware available. There are benefits to games being exclusive. One of which is being able to develop on one console which means less time to develop and issues to sort out.

There are no benefits to making games for 5 different hardware. Many developers have publicly stated they prefer working on one platform.

There are many benefits to making games multi platform. More unit sales/revenue thus sustaining a healthy game studio and more games. In an ideal scenario of course…

There are benefits to exclusive console development as well. That hopefully being optimization and efficient use of the hardware… god of war and horizon fit the bill here as their presentation and performance on ps5 embarrasses most fully next gen games. This is also why most PS studio game efforts will appear on ps5 first and get ported far later.

The pc port scenario is very much a non threat to console gaming. It’s not going anywhere either. Game boxes have replaced cable tv. Industry growth is generational and keeps getting bigger.

If Sony believes it makes the best games then I’d like to see them try selling against their competitors everywhere.

You guys are gullible.

Naught Dog is already affected by having to develop for PC. Their engine no longer is made for PlayStation. They change it to a multiplatform engine that takes all PC hardware into a account. Including low end hardware.

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand that multiplatform development is not always good. In the the case of PS5, we want Sony to prioritize the platform we have supported for decades and this generation spent hundreds of dollars on. Not announced more PC games that don’t benefit PS5 owners at all. It has nothing to do with fanboyism and losing exclusive. It’s real tangible changes that can change the uniqueness of PlayStation consoles. We don’t want a commoditization of Sony first party games.

They estimated 300M for FY22 and they missed it by 50 million. It's very likely they will miss their FY23 as well.
You are forgetting that Bungie likely accounted for more than 50 percent of FY22. Of that $250 million, how much of it is profit?
Yes, they missed 50M pretty likely because TLOUP1 and Returnal were delayed to the very end of the fiscal year, so sales estimated to be there were moved to the next (current) fiscal year. TLOUP1 sold around a million copies on PC so far -almost always full priced, had a single short discount-.

And yes, Bungie is now a 100% owned Sony studio so their PC revenue will be included there because it's a graph of Sony revenue in PC. At least starting in the current fiscal year because it will be (if I'm not wrong) the first complete FY with the Bungie acquisition already completed since the start of the FY.

Most of that revenue from the ports is profit, because a big portion of that yearly revenue is from games published in previous years who already recouped its cost, and because ports only need a few guys working during a few months and very little marketing but they generate many millions in revenue. So even most of the revenue generated by the ports released in 2023 is profit.

For the love of……please can people stop bringing up sales as a good reason for games being multi platform? No it is not as has shown a bunch of times.

More often than not multi platform games have flopped in sales compared to exclusive games selling millions.

The reason pretty likely is that he's 63 years old and millionaire, so plan to retire after having worked 30 years in the company.

He's old, so obviously constant travel and jet lag should be a pain in the ass and he prefers to stay at home.

Exclusive games also flop. The difference is that there are also way more multiplatform games, so you listen more cases of both multiplatform games flopping and multiplatform games being a hit.

But yes, it's a fact that if you release in more places you can reach more users so you can sell more. And this is the reason of why all companies tend to go multiplatform, specially because they need to make sure that after spending $500M or so on a game it doesn't flop. Pretty likely the Bethesda CFO wasn't happy seeing Redfall and Starfield going console exclusive and losing all that money they could have made on PS.

Elden Ring sold 15 million in one year because it was multiplatform. It would not have if was PlayStation exclusive for instance. Same goes for Hogwarts, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, Skyrim… etc…. So… wrong? Not all games are created equal of course but there’s no doubt being multiplatform is what helped all those games sell 10s of millions .
