Put full BC and stop focusing on PC motherf*ckers.
I really hope so. Sony needs to do a big Event like the Playstation Experience was in the past. Show upcoming bangers, not only 3rds, from the own studios I mean. We don’t know what Naughty Dog, Team Asobi, Bend Studios, Suckerpunch Productions, Media Molecule, Sony Santa Monica, Guerilla Games etc. is working on. This Fall or Winter, Sony should pet it’s fans the head, by showing us some games.I am not buying all this Sony is doomed speel tbh, There is so much in terms of unknown games we don't know about.
How many unannounced projects are they working on.
I do agree that something is going to have to give soon, Fans need to know what the company is working on.
I do however suspect Sony fans are going to be delighted when Sony finally show their hand.
And by my reckoning it's going to be a royal flush.
I don't think there are any other game to release this year (not fiscal) that is not announced already.I really hope so. Sony needs to do a big Event like the Playstation Experience was in the past. And make some fine acquisitions, like getting Square Enix, Deviation Games, Ember Lab and the investors will be happy. Now after Microsoft’s true intentions did leak after this Call of Duty press drama, Sony should get going to finish this work!
tomorrow for dinner, salmon or Cod, what you recommend?I enjoyed my time at gaf, met a lot of good people, miss a few too.
Saying that, this site is doing great and growing rather well, + i get to abuse a few members over here like @Bryank75 and @kyliethicc, Eternal enemies.
PC I agree with, BC on the other hand, PS4 is going EoL with 117 mill sold and MS announced the end of THEIR BC efforts, just putting that there...Put full BC and stop focusing on PC motherf*ckers.
I've not had to turn settings down all the way to get 30FPS. In GoW, I'm using settings better than the PS4 (with ultra textures) and averaging 38FPS. I'll try days' Gone (uses the UE) and let you know.I've had one for ages, and been using it at my friend's for 2 years.
Yes I understand PC settings and all that my point is cranking things down so far and you often still only get 30FPS.
It's been a while since I've pulled mine out of the drawer it's been resting in but I remember trying Days Gone for instance and the game just didn't work basically (meaning every setting on it's lowest, and still a slide show)... Grim Dawn stuttered super bad... my wife tried getting that Amazon MMO to work and it was terrible.
Fon fucking do.
First, some scum @PropellerEar wants to melt me in a microwave, and now you wanted to dip me in cheese.
I am beginning to feel very unwelcome on this forum.
@DynamiteCop, give me some love bro, they are picking on me
The problem though is that Sony and MS is too late to the party with this one. The Steam deck is a complete PC with all the benefits of PC gaming so it gets all the exclusives on the consoles (PS/Xbox) and all the backward compatibility of every PC game out. If Sony released another PS Vita, it wouldn't sell because the Steam Deck would match it 1) and 2) it would get the games that are coming to the PS Vita in PC format.
Valve definitely had a diamond here and they can make this be even more of a monster in the future with hardware upgrades and stabilizing the OS. They even solved the shader compilation for games by doing it automatically before game starts.
You wildin' out with this opinion lol
I guess I just don't really get the Steam Deck fervor... the performance is pretty garbage IMO on a ton of games.
Jimbo’s head is now getting roasted by the Sony president Yoshida Kenichiro. Porting games to PC and set up the idea of bringing all Playstation IPs to PC sooner or later. Means losing potential PC Onlys buying a Playstation console. Call of Duty affair don’t forget, the internet is burning because of the recent statements from Playstation. Killing PS Vita and let Nintendo take full charge of Japan. No intention of releasing a new handheld and giving us an iPhone controller…
Please give Jimbo a fine compensation and replace him immediately with Shuhei Yoshida or Hermen Hulst!
If Hermen then Shuhei can become alternative the Playstation studios president. Jimbo is driving Sony into SEGA’s path!
Well in Sony's case, it's not "all" their games, not yet anyway and probably not for a pretty long time if ever. But what I've always thought was a good idea on Sony's part was to release basically their own portable that served a function like the Steam Deck. As in, it wouldn't be something they make games for exclusively, in Sony's case it'd be a means of providing effortless, native BC of all PS4 games, and able to stream PS4 Pro and PS5 games to it (I guess with Remote Play).
They can make something comparable or slightly better spec-wise than Steam Deck (if they'd want effortless native play of PS4 games they'd need at least 1.84 TF of compute, same pixel and texture fillrate as PS4, same geometry culling rate, same capacity of RAM and bandwidth....wouldn't need a particularly fast internal SSD however) and price it cheaper since Sony could offer greater production capacity than Valve, lowering BOM and production costs along the way (until you reach a plateau).
If smaller teams want to make games for it, let them, and they can take comfort knowing those games will be compatible with PS4 and PS5 consoles for people who'd rather play them there. There are other things Sony could do with a handheld like that, but I wanted to focus on the big things. This is mainly about how a platform holder can maximize retention of customers in their ecosystem while controlling as much of the vertical stack (software, APIs/middleware, hardware) as possible.
Because as a platform holder, you mainly want to do that before rescinding any slice of that power to an external company, especially if any of that involves hardware.
I think they have optimal profiles for most games, so that they at least run decently and whatnot.
I do think some things Sony could've done better and they really have to make sure they zero in on what makes them unique and capitalize on that (something Sega failed to start doing until it was too late with Dreamcast/NAOMI), but they're nowhere near that level of jeopardy dude.
They've been a clear #1 for three console generations and the gen they weren't (the one gen where they did the absolute worst), they effectively edged out to beat a direct rival when all was said and done (not to mention gain back favor among many hardcore/core gamers which directly benefited their succeeding console).
Basically, Sony haven't made any catastrophic mistakes, nowhere near any, and anyone acting like they're going to drop out of making consoles is being ridiculous.
I wouldn’t rule it out. Now Sony will focus on delivering more PS5 and making PSVR2 a successful launch. Maybe after that if it’s getting less busy, there could be room for a new handheld. The only thing I know so far, Sony registered in 2020 and 2021 some patents for handheld gaming devices. The question is only if this patents will ever be in production.Completely agree about the portable.
Sony could have released a PS5 Portable with the same specs as the Steam Deck.
Wouldn't have an issue porting games since they are already releasing cross gen on the PS4 which is around the same specs wise.

The beauty of the Steam deck though is that it's future proof. Sony would have to keep making iterations of a PS Vita for the PS6,7,8, etc.. the costs would go up dramatically. The Steam deck would win out in this case as it'll work for all future and past games being an actual PC.Completely agree about the portable.

Let's hope so.
Just surprised Sony didn't take this route with the success of the Switch and their lack of sales in Japan.
One powerful home console and a handheld alternative which plays the same games.

Makes sense but it would need a new console every generation. It wouldn't be in competition with the Steam Deck anyway but an alternative to the PS5 home console.
Would mainly be targeted at the Japanese market and people looking for more oomph than the Switch.
Or picture this, Sony just continues to port their games to PC making the need for a proprietary handheld from them completely useless as you could just buy a Steam Deck..Completely agree about the portable.

For all the talking around here there's very little actual thought.
